News broke today - Holden apparently have been quitely developing it for eighteen months.

Given that Subaru have been provided input to GM on AWD over the last couple of years - there's a Subaru version of the Zafira available in Thailand that is AWD - given their experience with high torque AWD setups (i.e. B4, various big HP WRXs) I'd be very surprised if they weren't involved.

I think I posted something about this a while ago, but since GM is soon replacing the Camaro (and looking for new designs), they could further intermingle GM/Subaru components with Scooby's H6 (with twin turbos) and AWD drivetrain with some Holden body & chassis. AWD Holden's sound good, though. :)

Well, I guess the fresh angle here is that no-one knew Holden were working on it - it's caught Ford on the hop, their AWD is in 'crossover SUV' status only at the moment, I don't think anyone expected standard sedan applications, especially in as short a time frame from Holden.

That second paragraph is a bit of speculation on my part.

That would be some engine...

As long as the internals hold up... :smilewink: Since this engine is Legacy-exclusive, I don't know of anyone who's tried to push it to its limits. Still, 350HP doesn't sound out of the question.

You'll probably have to wait. Subaru tend to introduce new motors at the top end of the range, and then filter them down through the range and then add turbos.

Good example is the 2.5 litre. Started initially as a Legacy/Liberty only engine, in the RX and Heritage, and then appeared in the original US Impreza RS (which is now in Australia).

It's now the standard donk in the Australian spec Forester, and there will be a turbo 2.5 Forester late this year.

I think the next model Liberty/Legacy will probably see the 3 litre H6 filter down to the RX model, and see it hooked up to a manual transmission for the first time - and yes, that would make a suitable replacement for the big blue Super Sube....

Well, people in the UK seem to think the current HSV300 (which some madman is importing in limited numbers) is a genuine M5 competitor, so god only knows what they'd think of a 350kw AWD version!
