AWD, how to drift them?

Ok, sorry if I didn't searched to well because I didn't come up with something clear enough.

Can someone explain me how I can get AWD cars drifted?

Even with N1,N2, 600HP, they won't drift, even in 2nd gear!

Could you guys also give me some tips for settings, like how I should set-up LSD and stuff?

I really want to learn to drift those Subaru's

I got some settings for a skyline gt-r in the settings depot, and the car drifts easily. Although with AWD, I think you should use the e-brake more often than you would with an FR. I have to e-brake to initiate drifts with them sometimes.

e-brake? I never heard that term before

You're running the N1's in the back right????? Cause if you have N2 front and N1 rear you should be having a hard time keeping it from going sideways, if not spinning out.

Even though thats kind of forbbiden, mixing tires but try a R34 on N1s

I meant it sarcastically that I never use it to drift.

well I use it mid drift a lot to correct my line. It's used in real life for the same thing. Although of course you'll need it less and less when you get better. I use it more with AWD because Im still a beginner somewhat when it comes to that drivetrain.

Now that was a pretty good statement right there. Nicely said. It's different to see someone justify their technique with logic rather then "I like it that way!"

I've only tried awd on a couple of occasions myself, but I think I'm getting to know the basics of it (good beginner technique imo):

1 - Heavy feint
2 - Immediately apply countersteer and braking if needed to establish angle.
3 - Give it some throttle to spin the wheels
4 - Straighten the wheel and drift while giving it gas.
5 - To control the angle and line:
-- let off the throttle and countersteer slightly to sort of pivot inwards
-- tap the e-brake to widen your line (and get more angle).
-- brake + slight countersteer to tighten the line (and possibly increase angle depending on countersteer applied)
-- more throttle to widen your line without increasing angle (possibly decrease it).
-- countersteer slightly while on throttle to extend your drift (could compromise angle, slight lift-off at this point will get your angle back).

Steps 2-3 need to be done rapidly to avoid spinning if you're on an N2/N1 mix. Feel free to correct me if you need to.. but so far, this is working for me..

Other things to consider:
- entry is a lot more important than in an RWD car.
- Evo 8 MR is hard to drift...
- check the settings depot for tuning tips.. personally, I tend to try setups from drifters I've seen on video first, to judge if their drift methods are similar to mine...
- for me, settings shouldn't be too extreme. Just try to make the car neutral and keep in mind the car's weight balance.. 450-550HP works ok for me, as does a VCD setting of about 30-40. Some AWDs have great stock LSDs, but dual 10/30/10 seems to work ok for starters..

Sorry if that joke offended you in any way haha.

The truth is, I used to use the e-brake, but very rarely, to extend my drifts, correct my angles.

But now in GT4, I have made some settings that are perfect for my style of AWD drifting. I do not need to use the e-brake to get bigger angle, just the accelerator. I'll show you in my upcoming AWD movie.

Ske, the Evo8 MR is one of my favorites to drift. I set it up to be one of my best drifters in the game.

it didn't offend me :P But awd drifting doesn't seem real enough for me because the drifts can extend much further with way larger angle than you would see in real life I think. Even though it looks cool in the replays, I'll stick to fr for now.

aww. i feel like such a baby at drifting now. i use my 550hp(about) nismo gt-r r tune for drifting. with my settings ( i took the advice for the skylines in the settings depot) AND N1 tires, i can still only initiate the drift by using the e-brake. it seems like you frown upon this, but if im drifting im drifting right?

if you dont want to use the handbrake then you slow down a the turn, turn the opposite way, then turn back at the turn very quickly while taking your finger/foot off the brake right when you start to turn towards the turn. If you still cant, turn back and forth twice before entering the turn instead to break the tires free. But you always need to slow down, unless your car feint drifts super easily or you have hard tires. If you stilll cant get it to turn, I'd use different settings. Softer spring rate in the rear or harder in the front or something. Also 550hp seems like a little much :P

well i can do a regualar feint drift when i slow down a lot, but then i dont have enough speed to get throuigh the turn.i tried turning the Nos on high and using while mid-drift (to help me going through the turn) but it didnt help too much. i got my camber angles pretty low, doesnt that helop reduce friction on the wheels?im only 14 so i know like notihng about cars and . ill try reducing my hp but i can only make it as low as 425. thats what it started at. thanks for the help.

just use depot settings actually. And if you cant make it through the turn, dont get huge angle right at the beginning. using less grippy tires also lets you slide more.

:odd: How do you get that little power from an R-Tune? My car has over 480 bhp stock.

GT4 Freak
why bother changing settings to drift car a true player doesn't change settings.

I'm a little intrigued here. Would you care to elaborate?

Indeed GT4Freak, please explain.
I think that only a truly uninformed or misguided player would not change settings.

Thanks guys, I'm getting the nag of those AWD cars now.

But hey, we all started as a drifting noob, right? Well, that counts for me, I started drifting like only 2 weeks ago, but I'm getting there 👍 :)

drifting noob= annoying people asking questions that is easy to find or already in a thread
