B-Spec... Completely trash and unbeneficial.

There is just no other way to describe it. I can't find any reason for it to be in the game to benefit the player.

I am absolutely convinced PD purposely finally stopped caring about the feature quality for their game.

But anyway. I can't stand B-Spec mode. I can't have any fun with it and I'm pretty sure most people who play this game feel like its a complete chore.

I'm sure you already know the popular problems with it. Heres mine.

You constantly have to manage your driver if you want him to not behave like a baby. It has to be seriously frustrating to know that your driver is incapable of doing things themselves.

You're driver has skills that real life managers wouldn't possibly allow to hit the track. They are complete idiots that will constantly hit walls. This is my current problem right now in the "FF" challenge, where I have the best car in the whole race, yet my driver just chooses to be have like a real driver wouldn't, and just thinks (literally) slaming into walls around mid-level difficultly corners (SS5) will do some good.

No B-Spec A.I. and opponent A.I. skill balance. Your opponents are just born better drivers than you'rs, from the very first race onward (unless you have a car 3 times better than everyone elses). If you had a race where all the drivers use just one completely stocked car, your driver would lose EVERY TIME! This is NOT ACCEPTABLE PLAYER TORTURE!

Longer races. Are you freaking kidding me PD? Do you seriously want us to hate the GT series? Having B-Spec as a bigger part of the game than A-Spec goes against most players interest is bad enough, but making the races longer than the A-Spec mode races? That just shows how detached they are from their audience. We did NOT buy "Race Driver: Pro Manager".

B-Spec is mandatory. You cannot beat this game without dealing with this mode. It is impossible. It should be optional, like GT4.

Blah blah blah. Point of Thread: GT4's B-Spec mode is FAR Superior in EVERY WAY. Agreed?

I... I just can't... GET OVER... the moronic design choices in this game.

I just prefer racing rather than watching the AI do the driving as it's very boring! Tried it briefly in GT4, haven't gone near it since!

I never even used B-Spec in GT4, but I quite like it in GT5. When I'm away from the PS3 (working, sleeping, making dinner, whatever) I can just put Bob in a car and have him earn some cash for me, maybe a prize car, too.

I started him out in an overmatched car, so even though he had no skill yet, he'd win easily. Not very sporting, but I'm not in the car, so what do I care? He levelled up very quickly, and can now outrace his AI opponents in evenly-matched cars.

hmm...i've not had any issues with getting my drivers up to level 36+ and my B-Spec lvl up to 35 apart from 2 races in the extreme series...seems like your whining because you don't want to put any effort in to it.

You bought a driving simulator, in the real world you get drivers AND managers, B-Spec is a management sim and A-Spec is a driving sim.

I think it should only be compulsery in some races, but not all of them. I think it's a bit lengthy but not too bad.

I've won in a similar car in the Sunday Cup. It's not all about telling your driver to push every single lap, but keeping your driver cool and telling them to overtake at the perfect moment. I agree that the GT4 B-Spec was better in that it was optional but that was the only way it was better. In GT5 you actually develop your drivers and don't tell them to push all the time.

What I do is actually tell him to slow down at the start, and then as he gets 'cooler' tell him to overtake/go faster ect. That usually works very well.

Just to let you know as you propably haven't advanced that far, B-spec can be very Beneficial in the way of prize cars and credits.

It sucks in the beginning but it does yeild rewards.

I earned faster cars and I no love b spec. He is up to lvl 15 and now tears up tracks in my Minolta and Sauber Benz. If its a long race I will watch tv or play xbox in the mean time.

I had to shorten your speech to fit this all in. Can you please tell me what level your driver is ? Judging by what you have written, your driver is brand new as you are attempting the FF race.

This topic has been done and redone again, and again, and again. It's very simple, you should not put B Spec Bob in the most over powered vehicle when he is at a low level. B Spec Bob drives with no aids, and is only allowed sports tires; sometimes soft sports tires. It's difficult to drive an overpowered vehicle on sports tires and no aids whatsoever. Especially Bob being level 5 or something.

B-Spec gets easier with progression, you also have to choose the right Bob. By that I mean temperament(personality), and skill set. Your frustration is misguided. I too was overwhelmingly upset how Bob would constantly miss opportunities to overtake and wildly spin out of control. It wasn't until I added a second driver with more or less the same personality to see the difference. I have retired 3 drivers since then and am level 26 B Spec, my highest driver is level 21 who was the 2nd guy I hired on and kept. It's trial and error, also adding the LSD mod to your vehicle helps out, A LOT.

Take this into consideration. You can't say it's completely ruined and you haven't passed the beginner's series yet. Try a different driver and more or less an easy but not too overpowered car for Bob to use. I've had fun with Bob since my frustration then. Got some nice car prizes due to him winning some races and now he's running endurances for me while I watch TV or go out.

I do however concur and there is an overwhelming consensus there are some much needed improvements to this bspec version e.g. ability to save, pause, and of course the big one: fast-forward

That's another issue. The developers know B-Spec is a lame mode so in order to get people even remotely interested in it, it had to have some decent prizes. That being said, no prize is enough. I play GT5 to DRIVE cars not WATCH cars. I'm not into MMORPG's, I have no desire to level up and earn prizes through boredom.

B-Spec should have been replaced with some sort of alternative driving style mode, like dirt racing, snow racing, drift mode competition, NASCAR events, F1, ect.

P.S. I got up to level 14 in B-Spec, I gave it a FAIR CHANCE!

Oh I'm sure that it should, but there is no way this is a manager simulator. The drivers are too moronic to pass for a real race in real life. They'd just crash and die. lol

And no I don't push my driver. He pushes himself because hes ALWAYS trying to catch up to the first place driver. If I let him cool down, he'll just go slow and get passed by everyone.

Of course I could just max the car out and destroy the competition easily, but if this mode was done properly, there would be no need to over power your driver in order to compete (or just straight up win with easy, in this case).

My point is. I can beat the FF races in a weaker car (flawlessly), unlikely my B-Spec driver who struggles just to go in a straight line in an a better car.

It just baffles me. lol

Should this not be in the bspec forum ?

Although I agree PD has messed up the bspec implementation big time, I do not agree with the OPs comments. He just needs to learn how to use Bspec. My first Bob has only lost 4 races out of about 470, and they were in Nascar.

As to new bob's, not sure about those comments; I created my 2nd bob only two days ago and he has done one race; co-driver of a FGT in the Le Mans 24hrs - he instantly went to level 30. I will create another one when I get to the N'ring 24hr.

My Driver is level 1 right now and I gave him the Newer Honda Civic Type-R With level one upgrades only. Its certainly NOT over powered. My Driver is just an idiot. His personality is dead center between cool and hot.

I know there are ways around the problem, but it shouldn't be this bad to begin with. And yeah what the heck is up with my driver only being able to use basic tyres? This is a race, not a drive to the mall. Lol

If the amount of races that were used in the b-spec mode were transferred to a-spec (obviously different ones) and bob could race them for you or you can share duties, as in gt4, it would be perfect. As it is, its a poor effort. But as been mentioned, this topic has been done before.

I am curious if any one actually enjoys B-Spec, and I don't mean thinks it's worth doing and likes the cr and cars you get, but actually enjoys the process of pressing some buttons while a long race is shown to you.

I really don't get the point behind people grinding and using B-Spec to progress in the game. I do a job I don't really enjoy for 8 hours of my day to have the money to pay for my PS3, TV and game etc.. because they are fun. To then have to do things in that game that aren't fun for access to things that are is just masochistic.

To be honest it doesn't bother me that I can't 'complete' the game because I won't do B-Spec, I won't even miss some of the cars you get from it. It just strike me as a shame that the developers put time into it (and other things) when A-Spec wasn't the best game they could possibly make.

I'm 100% with this statement.

*Five high*

Anyway. Yeah I just really neededto vent and I looked at the first page to see the other B-Spec topics, but I felt like they weren't discussing the same issue, other than "B-Spec mode sucks" Lol.

I like B-Spec.
I like to raise my drivers, I like to make easy money and I like to watch some races as well.
Without B-Spec, I should've copy my save game in hundreds of USB Drives, or born again a dozen of times around December 2010.

Fact is, you should wait for your Driver to hit level 20-25 to have some nice overtaking and braking capabilities.
But in the meantime, you get some cash and some nice prize cars.
I'm cool with that.

Sigh...... Search function anyone???
Might I suggest reading this little article. Might cool you down a little bit, being that you're 'annoyed' at an already obvious caveat of GT5.

Good luck to ya.. 👍

I only had a problem in the beginning. My first driver was too timid and when I got driver #2 he was just too aggressive and I couldnt find my balance. Now I know my two drivers have traits that lean towards a particular type of car or track and with some tweaking of the cars get in the top 3 and most times first in similarly powered cars(well my cool guy needs a bit more juice). Personally Ive become quite fond of Bspec. Some races require far more management then others(Gallardo race) but for the most part Ive enjoyed the extra credit and cars the mode provides. My personal favorite race so far is the Lupo Cup car race. Similar power and Bob really made me proud. Took first but only at the very. Trailed the leader for about a 1/3rd of the last lap on the ring and at the very last turn cut the inside and squeezed by. It was quite entertaining.

It does have some use in Cr and prize cars, but we can still do that if we choose so in GT4. So I use it but no I'm not enjoying B-spec at all.

My Driver is level 1 right now and I gave him the Newer Honda Civic Type-R With level one upgrades only. Its certainly NOT over powered. My Driver is just an idiot. His personality is dead center between cool and hot.

Indeed, the sports tires are a HUGE disadvantage. My best guy's personality is like this
|COOL------------------[HERE]-----|MID|--------------------------HOT|

His cornering and speed are superb but his accuracy not so much. But when he's in the lead, he stays there. Add LSD to your vehicle if applicable as well.

The very 1st Bob I had was more Cool than Mid, and he was a great line driver, and didn't make much mistakes, but he never took chances trying to overtake in tight spots (sometimes wide open). Very conservative.

My 4 main guys are like this
lvl 21 lvl 22 lvl 18 lvl 20

It is frustrating in the beginning, and after awhile the races get even more intense, and I mean, you're sitting there sweating from the pits and Bob comes through on the last turn to place 1st FTW ! ! ! ! ! Whooooo Bob ! ! !

A friend of mine gets really upset at this mode too though. But from what I've learned even if Bob is in last place, he can still take first. The extra laps are there for a reason. Bob's gone from 9/12 with 3 laps left to 1/12 on the very last lap. Gut-wrenching when he took that win. Some races are hard, one of my Bob's couldn't beat the Lamborghini challenge at level 15, but my level 9 Bob placed first within 2 laps. They're all different and some are dumber/smarter than others. If you got a level one guy and he's constantly acting like an idiot up until amateur or pro, cut him, get a new one because they can level up faster through the harder races.

The fact that a fair number of people would rather be doing almost anything else (sleeping, watching tv, doing chores, playing Xbox) doesn't speak very highly of B-Spec's fun factor. The key question PD needed to ask themselves before including B-Spec again was, "is it any fun?" The fact is that almost no one would purchase GT if it included only a B-Spec mode, while the same number of people would purchase it with only an A-Spec mode. To me this indicates that PD wasted a lot of time on it, time that could have been spent improving the part of the game that people want to actively play. I really like GT5, despite its many flaws, but PD, in my opinion, really made some mindboggling choices in its creation.

I like that bob is earning me money... While i am looking at TV or a movie or something like that i let my bob drive a race in extreme races. 99k for watching tv.. bob has made me some millions ;)

If they set up B-Spec like how sports games allow for team management and contracts, then B-Spec could be so much more.

I would like to see how a B-spec driver drives in a contract year, compared to a non-contract year.

What I'm trying to say is, is that B-Spec drivers should have been made more human. With their own interests (pay, number 1 driver, sponsorships).

It would be nice to have a B-Spec version of F1's silly season, or whatever they call it when drivers are looking for drives.

Edit: After playing Grid, Codemasters got the "team" atmosphere down a little bit. No harm if GT implemented that in the future.

Just to let you know as you probably haven't advanced that far, B-spec can be very Beneficial in the way of prize cars and credits.

It sucks in the beginning but it does yield rewards.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I like the fact that I can set up my drivers to do an endurance race and then go to bed. I wake up, I have more money then I did before and occasionally a new car to boot. And let's not forget the reward at level 35.

Again, B-spec = AFK Money Time...

This seems to be one of the more common ways to use it. Hell a guy on another threat made a lego robot to keep pressing X.

In terms of it being a 'game' it completely defeats the purpose, PD may as well just give you a chunk of CR and a free car every time you log on and save every one some electricity and wear on their PS3.

In fact they should replace it with the folding at home app and give you a GT bonus for every work unit you complete and actually do some good for the world :)

Maybe that's what B-Spec is, a distributed computer app disguised as a game and it's constantly experimenting on new AI algorithms to use for flash trading :)

Never really had a problem with this

Really so when you first played the game (say the first GTx or racing game you played, not GTT5 :) ) you could easily win a single model race?

My point is. I can beat the FF races in a weaker car (flawlessly), unlikely my B-Spec driver who struggles just to go in a straight line in an a better car.

It just baffles me. lol
And how many hours have you logged playing racing games? Many, many more than a level 0 driver in GT5 B-spec I would guess...

Patience is key :)
