B-Spec endurance cars?

I set up my Corvette Z06 this morning on the Tsukuba 9 hour, because I thought the R8 was too easy and I wondered if the Corvette would be easier on the tires. I'll know when I get home after work how well that logic worked out.

Well that didnt work out like I intended, and it was my tuned ZR1 vette, not my RM vette. Came in 2nd. ran a few laps at Indy and finally got to lvl 35 so I got my X2010 last night too.

What would you use for 24 le Man (except X1 and FGT) to guarantee win?

I just started this one last night.
First I used my Toyota 88CV, race start was light rain, water on the track, cars putting up rooster tails so I selected Intermediate Rain tires. All the AI cars were using Medium race tires. Start was bit shaky, I was expecting my Bob to jump up to 1st before the first chicane. Not happening, he struggled up to at least lap 3 before he pulled up into 1st. Ok, no problem now he'll just leave them all behind. by lap 6 he was only a couple of seconds ahead of 2nd place car (Audi 2001 R8 race car)
Tires starting to get low, gas still ok just under half a tank left. at lap 7 the pitstop signal comes up (I dont use the Pit Strength settings) rain is almost gone, I figure the track is drying out (not seeing rooster tails anymore) and so Bob wants to change tires, I'm ok with that, its early, pit now before the other cars, change tires, go faster. Didnt happen, started 8th lap in 3rd place, then started slipping around, blowing turns, by lap 9 he was down to
5th place. I decided to have him pit and change back to the Intermediate tires, at least then he wont be slipping and sliding around the track. Pit and fall to 9th place, but Bob comes out of the pits faster, and by lap 11 he's in
3rd place, except he keeps slipping in that first hard right turn and ending up in the sand, 3 laps in a row he slides out in the sand and now gas is getting low, tires low again,
I'm just not seeing how this is going to work out well for me. 1 hour and 20 mins into a 24 hour race and Bob has pitted 4 times and barely able to hold on to 3rd place.

I stopped the race and switched to the X2010, no worries. I checked this morning before I left for work, 9hrs in the race and at Lap 172, about 10 laps ahead of 2nd place. Its the easy wayout for now so I can win the first one. Later I'll re-examine my setup for the Toyota and make some corrections. I still think the Minota Toyota is ok but I might have the downforce set to high or the suspension too tight and wearing out the tires too fast and try a different setting on the transmission.

If you want a challenge for the 24hrs of Le Mans, try using the Audi R10 TDI. You'll need to mod it with the Stage 3 Turbo. The trick is finding a nice suspension setting that is easy for Bob to control while not chewing up the tires. Ran this a couple days ago and Bob only got to 1st after 14 hours. The R10 is not about speed, it's about using less fuel and tires to win.

Bob is currently running 24hrs of Le Mans again. This time in a Mazda 787 also modded with a Stage 3 turbo. Tuned the suspension, LSD and transmission before the race. He passed everyone down the first straight and never looked back. It's now 1 hour 22 minutes into the race and he's already almost 2 minutes ahead of the 2nd place car.

Yeah, did it with the X2010 and FGT too but those were just no fun. Ok, the X2010 was fun to watch the first time but it gets old quick. I'll be trying some other LMP cars too see how they do.

True, thats were I think I messed up with the Toyota 88CV. Intermediate Racing tires should have lasted longer than the AI's Medium Race tires, but I saw Bob's tires wearing out at the same rate or even faster.

True again, but not being able to watch him race and tell him to hold off on pit stops it was easier just to change to the X2010 for a no worry win and then do some research and try out some setups later.

Yep, fun to watch the X2010 zip around the track but it does get kinda hold and really isnt a race. I have several cars that are candiates I want to try, BWM McClaren, Diablo, 787, GT40. I would have liked to have seen a 24hours LeMans historic race so we could race the older cars together also.

If you set the pit strength to off, he'll only pit when fuel or tires run low. I found that the problem with setting pit strength to 10% is that Le Mans only allows 3 drivers so there isn't enough time for other drivers to recover to full strength which is why you'll see the AI cars pit more and more frequently in the latter half of the race. Eventually, they'll be pitting almost every lap or every other lap. The only problem I've encountered with Bob's pit stops is when it rains. I have him using soft race tires and after the rain stops, he switched to hard tires for some unknown reason even though I had the pit strategy set to use soft tires.

Yeah, it would be awesome to have some kind of option do some historic races. I've tested other "LM" race cars such as the Ford GT LM Spec II (both versions), the GT40, the newest R8 LM Race car, even the Veyron (haha, I know) but it seems that nothing short of a LMP will do for the 24hr Le Mans race. The Nissan R92CP rapes them all on the straights but eats tires for breakfast. I'll have to spend more time on the suspension tune on that one.

yea, I understand about the Pit Strength, I only used it a few times early on to see how it worked and didnt really like it, even at 10%. in the beginning I wasnt sure if the % strength applied to the Driver, tires, or fuel. Once I figured out it was the driver I stopped using it. What I meant was even not using Pit Strength, when the tires get close to needing replacement Bob pits when I can cancel the pit and get 2-3 more laps out of those tires (depends on the track)
Yesterday I watched Bob run another lap in LeMans when I would have made a pit and changed tires, that lap he drove very badly almost no traction at all... so even if you are not using the Pit Strength or 0% there might be times you need to pay attention to what the driver is doing. I havent seen one run out of gas yet, but there's always a first time.

I would think that the car for LeMans would be one that was capable of:
1. Top Speed of 230mph or higher
2. be able to hold most corners between 60-80mph
3. Go more than 10-11 laps on tires or gas

Of course a lot of that also depends on your drivers and their skills, temperment and strength.
5 of my drivers are Lvl 33 to 35, all are about even in Temperment, some higher some lower and they do well up to now. I'll see tonight though how they did with LeMans, even with the X2010 I imagine its possible they could screw that up.

Yup, there are times when you have to baby sit Bob. With the Audi R10, I baby sat him for a couple of hours because of that "just one more lap" problem. Dinner time came around and I just left him on his own. He eventually won but only because the AI drivers were using the 10% pit strength strategy. You might have noticed that Bob makes his decision whether to pit or not when he's passing the pit lane. This is what causes that last really slow lap. If PD changed the pit decision to perhaps a couple turns before the pit lane entry, this probably wouldn't happen.

I don't think it's possible for Bob to screw up in the X2010 but then again, this is Bob we're talking about. :nervous: :)

well I guess I wont know now, didnt know there was another patch coming (probably was announced and I wasnt paying attention) anywhoooo, I left the PS3 online today so that race is probably gone when I get home and I'm going to San Antonio this weekend and I'm not going to leave my PS3 on all weekend while I'm not home.
No biggie, gives me sometime tonight to play around with some cars and setups and test them out.

As far as the pit timing goes, I noticed that he selects to pit as soon as he passes the pit entrance and so you know that on this lap he plans to pit, but really I think that works. Some tracks are a lot shorter so I kind like having a lot of advanced notice when Bob is going to pit. It also gives me some time to check the other cars and see if they are pitting this lap or just pitted or getting close to needing that pit stop so I can decide pit now? or stretch out one more lap. Often times I will have Bob pace up on that last lap before the pit to make up as much time as possible so that 14 -20 second pit stop doesnt hurt so much, but it depends on the situation and what the gap is between my car and the rest of the pack.
