B-Spec endurance "dangerous" for my PS3?

I have the original launch model PS3 and it was on for over 6 weeks 24hrs a day and it survived. I was worried to and if it bothers you don't do it.
Good news is there may be an in game save for longer races. 👍 :)

Mine has been on since GT5 was released, +3 months now or what it is. :)

PS3 fat 80GB (now 500GB)..

I still play cautiously. The longest I had my slim PS3 running was at least 12 hours (including 9 for a B-spec endurance race). For budgeting purposes, I do not keep my PS3 turned on for a long while as it does run up my electricity bills.

My PS3 has been off for only a few days in total since November 24. It's a fatty, and it's still going strong, just maintain it properly.

This is one of those questions no one can really answer for you. Just because someone else didn't have a problem with their PS3 running 24x7 for a month, doesn't mean you won't come across a problem.

Just make sure your PS3 is running in a well ventilated environment and hope for the best. It's unlikely to happen, but there's always a small chance a problem will occur - hardware/software failure is a reality for all pieces of electronics.

Keep the PS3 out in the open, off of carpets, away from walls, and not in an enclosed cabinet area and it will be just fine. Spray some compressed air through it every now and then to get the dust out. It just needs a little breathing space and regular cleaning, and it will more than sufficiently cool itself. 👍

In addition to all that is mentioned here, keep in mind that if you live in a dusty environment (I live in the desert so I have to be very careful about leaving electronics on all the time), you will need to make sure your PS3's ventilation ports are clear. Dust/fine dirt killed my 52" Sony Grand Wega. It happens.

I am also worried about overheating.
So what I do is since my ps3 is in this cabinet under my tv I leave the doors open and I put a fan on my ps3. I don't use those direct ps3 air coolers like the ones nyko makes because those are basicly launching dust directly into your ps3. I just put a normal table fan in the front and it keeps it nice and cool all night long.

Also, putting the screen into live timing monitor mode may help, as it has to be less taxing just having the video in that little square on the left.

On that note, presumably it is safer to run a 4 hr endurance overnight compared to a 9 hr one? (ie ps3 still on for 9 hrs, but will be "idle" for 5 hrs). Not bothered about the extra 300k xp

I use a pedestal fan to blow air over and around the unit. I am currently 15 hours through the Le Mans 24hr.

Warm to the touch, but not an alarming warmth - mind you, it is Autumn and a warm one at that with averages in the high 20C and low 30C.

i totally know what you mean. im on the outskirts of rio rancho, and also if you are in a dessert area, make sure you leave your windows closed lol. all the wind picks up dirt and shoves it in the ps3 lol. but itll be fine. i have a 60gb launch model thats been on basically since launch day. the only thing that happens to mine is that the screen gets a sort of matrix look where theres a bunch of green pixles all over the screen. thats from the gpu overheating a while back. just make sure to turn it off every now and then and take care of it.:dopey:

i have a big fan, throwing air by the side of the ps3.

The results are great, now when i touch it, its waaay cooler than before, everyone should do this.

my phat 60GB YLOD'ed on me in about 5-6 hours into a B-spec grinder. Went down stairs to shut it off (I've been wanting to not run it more the 6 hours straight). I did run it continuously for a few days before starting to turn it off. I think my phat's cause of death of being in a built-in shelf, so even though there was plenty of room, it was still really open in the front, with "walls" on the sides and the top. If I had a fan in the back of the enclosure to blow out the hot air, it probably would've helped. I did have laptop cooler under the PS3, but I guess it did'nt help enough.

I have had my 160 slim running for about 2 weeks straight... No problems at all... My ps3 is in our basement which runs around 65f all year round so i don't think I have to worry about it getting to hot.
