Ok, B Spec mode-
I believe there has to be some algorithm with what to press when.
As surely i believe in certain sections it has to be say maintain pace and other sections has to be overtake etc etc

has anyone tested this out on tracks to see if you use say 3/4 use overtake and 1/4 of the track use increase pace etc?

any tricks of it all?

As there is the current competition for signature edition folk and thus how does one BOB do 8 seconds better then another BOB?

Im currently on level 39 and still my bob has won a few races but yet others he doesnt fair as well.

i believe i have been through most formulas done like overtake, increase, overtake, increase, overtake repeats, or ie 2 overtakes 1 increase 1 decrease and repeat.

I just dont believe his health going from blue up to red matters either in such races. if you have a supercar he wins easily enough.

Im just trying to get it out there has anyone done trial/tests of what each tab will do
eg
increase pace = higher rpm
overtake = will increase acceleration during corners, when a car is about
maintain pace = drive normally
decrease pace = lower your health from red to blue and calm driving

like really whom the hell is a calm driver when racing? Vettel/webber/prost/rossi etc are never calm when racing your on the edge. and yes i know its a game and its part of it but really, if your not in the red your not racing fast right? can you ever be in the blue and record a fast lap? or be not wanting to increase pace at least 5 times per lap? it just doesnt make sense. Im nearly at the point of recording my laps via video camera and watching what buttons were pressed and see if it cant be repeated time and time again in the exact same order.

Or have i missed some threads where b spec tabs have been thoroughly discussed/tried and tested? As gt5 hasnt really explained the whole b spec mode drivers completely, we are just guessing etc and im assuming cause of the competition they dont want ppl to get tips etc

Cheers

It seems pretty random to me. I tried "pace down" from the start and he was still passing cars instead of dropping back.

I know nothing about you're questions concerning B-Spec.

But I do know Rossi is calm even in the heat of a battle. It was tested by Dr Claudio Costa (the real doctor in MotoGP :)) by measuring heart beat of riders during a race.
The result: all riders averaged 170-180 bpm, 190 in tense situations, except for one: V. Rossi. He had average hardbeat of 110 with "peaks" towards 120.

The commentators from Eurosport have no doubts anymore: he's alien!

Well you know the point i was trying to make anyhow im sure :) Go Stoner 2011 anyhow...lol See if Rossi can do what Stoner did in his first year as Nicky hadnt lol :dunce:

Zomg ... you are lvl 39 and haven't figured this out yet ??

What it does ...
increase pace = Bob pushing the pedal to the floor
overtake = will overtake an opponent
maintain pace = will maintain your current pace
decrease pace = will lower the pace

When to use it ...
increase pace = If you want Bob to drive faster
overtake = If Bob is hitting traffic, this will urge him to drive past the other cars
maintain pace = If you are happy with the current pace
decrease pace = If Bobs driving is causing him to drive off track, bumping into other cares etc etc ... if his driving is hazardious you decrease the pace

Other B.spec tips:
*The hotter your driver the better, a hot driver will increase the pace himself if getting caught up with by other drivers, a cool driver seems to be okay with getting passed.
*The cool driver is better up to lvl 10 or so, a hot driver is better from lvl 10 and upwards to lvl 40
*The hot driver is way better than the cool driver when your car is equally matched with the other cars.
*The hot driver handles supercars way better
*The hot driver while driving in the hot area handles much better, a cool driver driving in the hot area tends to "panic" and off the track he goes ...

But I bet Rossi hasn't vomited in his helmet 3 times while moving at almost 200mph and still finished the race. But then that was the end of stone that season

In short its a computer game, made to make sure you win/loose depending on what tabs you choose. So there has to be a formula of this and that.
Bit like a game of chess, if you perform certain moves you win/loose. (its built on a program after all)

So B Spec mode is the same, say all the cars are the same, you start as 7th and thus based upon what tabs you choose is based upon winning or loosing.

hence why i gathered surely some bored person has actually sat down and did say a whole lap once at the front and did differant button configurations, just cause your 1st doesnt mean you dont press overtake before a corner/apex to get a better time / acceleration etc.

a bit like why the technicians in race teams analyze every thing to see how to improve. Thats what i want working for me..maybe i can pay someone to do a analysis upon it all..lol

whats the internet site where ppl place jobs on line for IT folk and worldwide if they choose the job they take it for say 200.. maybe i get my own pit crew this way. lol freelance it out to some kid in israel or china or something... hmm

Im not saying it doesnt matter at all what you tell him, but it has nothing to do with him winning or not.

Winning or not is decided by the car. If the cars need to be the same; its decided by the tires..
If the car is good enough your driver will win no matter how slow you tell him to drive..

If i give bob the identical car that i drove myself in the same series; he's going to lose. he just needs a better car then the rest; then he'll be fine..

Signature edition Competition, no choice in car, tyres etc. Its simply racing and choosing the TABs.. I want to win the comp, i have to find 5 seconds in Sarthe track (3 laps) and i have tried every configuration.

Im simply trying to think outside the box, or if there is something im missing out on.

2 ppl from australia/new zealand go onto the next round, i want to be one of those 2. and from all the guys doing the comp im 4th thus far (based upon time diff) i could be first in the 4 of 5 races but if i have a 5 sec differance in 1 race then i loose. Even though say base upon a points ladder i could be first, but time is the key here.

Simply placed.

I've tried some different things, and found one technique that works pretty consistently.

Basically, there are places on every track where the driver will pace himself down automatically. This is generally just before a good passing zone (a straight coming up usually). I believe this is programmed in on purpose to engage the player, as the driver will not make aggressive moves or pass in these ideal areas without prompting or a severely overpowered car.

The trick I've found is to get comfortable with the best places to pass ... heavy braking zones, long straights, etc. Pace your driver down so he has a little room on the gauge to push. Coming in to a passing zone, tell him to push harder, which gives him a "run" on the car ahead. Then, give the overtake command just before the area where the pass will actually take place.

Just giving the overtake command in a pack with a maxed gauge hasn't been effective at all for me. I generally keep giving the pace down commands until an ideal passing opportunity, then I use the technique above.

Agree 100%
At Indy, I can make my Bob better his lap time by over a second by hitting
Pace Up every time it cycles, which is about 7 seconds.
My main driver is "Cool Headed" and has a difficult time passing in some situations unless I coach him.

It's a program, but there are too many variables. For one thing, many --if not all-- Bobs (lvl0 to 40) will win the Sunday Cup (for ex) when they're given supercars, regardless of whether they're given instructions or not. If we could run a Bob in arcade mode in competition with equal opponents, the results might be predictable (for each different lvl Bob). However, Bobs in b-spec race against a variety of opponents in each race --which is why we overpower him. "If" he would get an "equal" car (meaning no more horsepower, downforce, advantage than any other), then the order of button pushing might make a difference.

The way the instructions are given, however, makes any specific timing unlikely --for a human to accomplish. There are clearly ways that work --from letting Bob alone completely to pushing "Increase pace" only on the corners to hitting "maintain pace". If there were one algorithm, I don't think there'd be as many solutions. The random variables make it a game. Or... every Boob has a set of dice :)

It's true. Go to Like the Wind, enter any Bob with a FGT, when he takes the lead just press increase pace when he approaches the corners. But, I don't think that was an algorithm built into the game :) If there were maximum power/weight and tire restrictions for every B-spec race, then I don't know if the same strategies would work.

I don't know for sure, but my guess is this.

When you use ''pace up'' and move the indicator to the very far right of the bar, Bob is supposedly (as I see it) driving the car to maximum i.e. as fast as his skills and the setup of the car allows.

But, different Bobs have different skill levels in terms of speed, braking and cornering etc. Also, different setups can result in diferent lap times i.e. the ''perfect'' setup will obviously be quicker than either a bad, poor or even average setup.

I just see it that a Bob with his skills at optimum levels, driving a car wth the pefect setup with his mood bar telling him to drive as fast as he can, will naturally be quicker than a Bob who doesn't have the same skill levels or car with a suitable or good setup for that given track.

But, I have no idea about this competitiion or the rules for it, this is just my theory on lap times with Bob.

The answer is further up the page ...

... and NO, Bob does not drive the car to the max of his abilities when in the red zone, he drives the car to the max of the cars abilities hence why he sometimes gets off track hence why you have the option to "pace down"

hmm further reviews and time playing the game has shown there is a way ppl are in the loop about a cheat or something with BOB.

Within 1 day a guy from now where comes along and knocks everyone of the rankings and got 1st in each 5 races for the competition. There is no way in hell this could be done in 1 day/24hrs and to come and beat everyone that has already sepent days/weeks beating each other.

So to be honest i felt a death when i logged in and seen this, i stopped playing it to be honest feeling shattered. I spent weeks getting into the top 4 and in one night it was all gone, from having to make up only 6 seconds in all races to having to find a magical 20 seconds, all BOBs are 40, i had finished b mode completely gold everywhere..

I just wanted to have my B**** and see if by chance given its the last week and i will go back to it everynight for 10hrs+ to try and get my bob in the top 2 in my region, has anyone cracked the timing/code. Or the guy was just 1 lucky guy.

**BTW can timing be poor based upon lag of the internet? poor internet? say i got shut down to basic internet from over downloading from ADSL 2 to basic ADSL, or that i should plug it in to use ethernet compared to wifi connection. could this make for better times?could that be the issue of slower

Only one way to find out...................plug the ethernet cable in! I personally think this is the case as my times online compared to racing in the GT life are completely differant and the cars handle differently too!

Who knows to be honest.

Polyphony Digital made a stupid (and uninformed) decision to hold the Signature Edition competition in B-Spec.

There are just too many different variables out of your control and the fact that the games A.I. is underdeveloped doesn't help. At least if they had a time-trial, a timed race, a drift trial and even a photo-mode part to the competition it will solely be down to skill and panache of the competitors instead of it becoming a lottery between all the players with level 40 drivers.

Quoting Kaz: "I am particularly happy that we have developed such a balanced challenge both newcomers to the Gran Turismo brand, and more experienced racers, will find equally enjoyable."

I call bull**** because I mean who actually would have bought the signature edition of GT5? Not a complete newbie to the ps3 let alone racing games. I highly doubt that there are plenty of wives that would've gifted their husband a $180-$250 video game for Christmas.

Long time GT fans and players would have bought it. And if you've played Gran Turismo games for some time you'd be pretty decent at driving (with or without a controller).

For the record Kazunori-san the lottery or bingo is only "enjoyable" for people living in retirement homes. Not for car or racing fans.

P.S. - To everyone outside the regions for the Signature Edition prize competition please boycott Sony/Polyphony's future competitions if and when they do the same for your country. This was a massive **** you to European Gran Turismo fans from them and it would just be courteous of us to give them the same treatment.

The short ammount of time (length of competition) to get Bob's up to speed (that take forever to get there!!) is a real drag.

I bought the sig ed because I've owned all GT games since '98' and I thought (how stupid of me) that GT5 was gunna be it and a bit due to the length of time its taken to produce, and that GT6 wouldn't appear for like another 20 years!!!!!!!!

"enjoyable".....PHFT!!! NOT.. Stupid AI, Stupid BOB (AI), UGLY shadows, rain dust effect.

Lol sorry for the outburst guys. I really needed to vent because the competition Kaz made us do was just completely and utterly frustrating.

I mean I had to level up 6 drivers all with different personalities and strengths for this competition and what I receive from it is very little tangible result because it was all down to what type of A.I. the opponent cars got.

I made a post outlining some suggestions to how they could have made the signature edition competition better here.

For the sake of making things easier I'll just copy the important bits of that post and put them on this one.

If Kaz was really set on having the competition in B-Spec they could have at least done a multi-player championship to get rid of the A.I. opponent variable (details below):

  • Competitors play as team bosses.

  • They turn up to the S.E. competition lobby on a specified time each week until January 31, preferably on a weekend just like a real race day.

  • Championship format is with their Bobs on a knock-out style tournament similar to GT Academy North America until they find the top 32 in the country (in our case - top 16 in the region).

  • Top 16 then slug it out for the tickets to Germany with their Bobs, using pit strategies and in-race driver management to win.

I know there's a lot of other issues with this, the first one in my mind being how each race will be judged if say one Bob punts another one off the track (But Bobs are pretty solid anyway, the only time they go off is when they get pushed too hard on the wrong part of the circuit).

If PD and Sony decide to have another competition like this hopefully they'll take a good look at the issues associated with this one.
