Ban GT memes from Funny Picture thread?

It appears moderators are taking crackdown on GT memes threads, with Pupik locking down the GT3 memes thread despite "No GT5 reuses" in the title.

Therefore, should we ban memes pertaining to Gran Turismo from the Funny Picture thread in the Rumble Strip, as a preventive measure? Because I always thought GT memes belong there, but the crackdown means there is no place for GT memes at all.

Oh. It doesn't help that it was even less funny than some of the "serious" stuff members post in the GT5 section, plus it was never going to as popular as the GT5 meme thread. 3 images posted over more than 5 months says it all.

And why should GT5 memes be banned from the FPT? There are hardly any in there as it is, and there are a handful of images from the GT5 meme thread that could be worth posting there anyway. So that "preventative measure" is going to do jack really.

That poll could really do with a "Couldn't care less" option.

You're making a big jump here from "specific threads about GT memes will be locked" (which, because of how SERIOUS BUSINESS people constantly treated them when the various GT5 forum goers saw them, was really quite justified) to "GT memes are not permitted on GTP whatsoever."

Actually, the GT5 thread served its purpose, and fell into backchannel discussion, rather than actual posting of memes (some of them made no sense at all) so it was locked. The GT3 thread fell into side-talk almost immediately, which kind of sealed its fate.

I know the GT3 forum isn't the best example of this, since it's very quiet (even more so than GT2), but what happened to topical discussion? Memes are rather parasitic, and typically don't go in any direction that might be helpful. You either get it, or you don't, and they don't lend themselves to open discussion, which is a major stumbling block towards helping folks with what is the core of GTPlanet's forums.

Yeah. Saying you might be planning on making a meme image instead of actually doing it isn't the way to go. Otherwise we'd have more than the 3 images that were in there already.

Well personally I don't really see a reason why GT memes should be banned from the Funny Picture thread; technically, if it's funny (or at least intended to have a joke within it) which shows it's related to the thread and within the AUP rules then why not post it?

Like most memes there's nothing wrong with GT memes GT5 or otherwise in and of themselves. It's just that people tend to go off the deep end with them. Just like with other memes.
