So, i was just going through the car list and noticed a lot of 'base model' versions of race cars. I wanna know what you guys think this means because i have my own theory. I think that these are cars with which we can create our own paint schemes for... that would be incredible. But who knows. What do you guys think?

It sounds like the names suggests - a base of said race car (I'm thinking HSV here, because I saw that on the list and I love that car), meaning not the same performance, no wing and aero enhancing features, and I hope the chance to paint the body and change rims etc.

As for why they're in the game, they've been asked for many times by fans since the release of the Weider HSV, people have been crying out for the Road car version, which maybe this is not, but it's pretty close I think.

Yea 13 cars barely makes a dent in 1,100 so I doubt thats the case.I think its for us to customize.. some way.

And there are 124 new cars added for release of varying styles/performance. 13 is not trying bulk the car list out at all.

Yep, probably a bare carbon or base white version (like RM cars) that we can repaint (or add liveries ).

Not sure if thats sarcasm but I just looked at the list and its actually 17 base models.I think all race cars in a manufacturer with same body should be considered 1 car and actually change specs when you change livery. But even if they did do this, the car count would still be over 1000, and even if they deleted all the dupes it would still be either over 1000 or close to, so I don't understand this whole intentionally bloating the car list thing, because it would still be that marketing / novelty tool that is 1000 cars. I mean kaz said 200 new cars we only got 124, they should've threw in a couple miatas and skylines to reach 200 . That to me would intentionally bloating the car list.

They need 3 more base models to get 1200 cars
Yeah, not quite. Including the New NSX, the BMW M3 GTE and the confirmed 3 Mercedes Benz cars not on the list, that would be 1202 cars. I'm hoping these "base cars" are just plain black or carbon fiber. I love that look.

Not sarcasm, I was simply agreeing with you.

Considering they prematurely announced other features that are selling points (sounds, course maker) do you really think they wouldn'tve announced a livery editor by now if they had one?

They haven't announced everything. You should realize this by the cars in the video but not on the list.

Yeah, exactly - all the GT website "reveals" is a full car and track list (meaning current) and the same information about the new physics and the new online lobby features that were revealed a month or so ago.

The "new features" that everyone was dying to hear about (livery editor among them, and how A-Spec/B-Spec basically offline content will work), and that the News feature on GTP has kind of hinted at, is nothing spectacular - the car list alone is enough to generate a lot of excitement, or discontent among many people. There is no actual "new features" that we didn't already know about, or more information about the Course Creator and screenshots of the Photomode, just info about some of the new locations.

So we'll just have to wait, I guess, I'm hoping more information will be revealed in the next few weeks, and that we won't have to wait until we open the game and put it in our PS3's to find this stuff out.

EDIT: My bad, I completely missed all the information listed on the "TOP" page of the GT6 section, lol. Now I know all that stuff listed above.

No, I don't think they'd have a livery editor. They 'might' add it in an update, but realistically I'm not expecting anything until GT7. At this point most likely they're just adding them to pad the car count. I'm guessing that we can paint these cars in one colour and that's it. It could be a hint of what they're considering for the future though.

In any case, I prefer race cars with simple colour schemes, so these base model cars are a plus for me.

Wheel sizes are new. Not a huge surprise but a good addition nonetheless.

Yes, I think PD's understanding of customization and our understanding of it are two completely different things. But as long as they overhauled the paint system, I don't mind the fact that I can't make my own liveries.

EDIT: Having properly read the GT6 section of the website, I get the impression that the paint system is not too dissimilar from GT5, and not much improved really. So you can now buy paints that you want, that's good, I guess, but I just hope there's plenty colours to choose from.

A side note, I've noticed a lot of "Features" are listed as available in a future update, so who's to say that the customization options can't improve over updates as well (I'm not suggesting full-on livery editor, but perhaps more options than there seem to be at the moment, which is not a huge improvement on GT5, in my opinion).

I did realise that, thankyou very much. I still believe that if they had features still to announce they would've showed their hand already. I think the base models will possibly serve as RMs, with the opportunity to put numbers on them.

Of course I would like to be proven wrong here.

The idea that I have done some basic car model is that they these (with neutral color) can be applied precise liveries.
I want to think that these cars PD have thought of something more than a simple change of color, with a number above.
After all, the thing not seems so hard or difficult.
In other words, something similar to GT2, where for every car there was an intended number and type of liveries.

Over 1200 cars people "OVER"

I was looking at it and a lot of the racing cars have a model listed without a team name like the Audi Sport Team Joest R18 vs just the Audi R18 so I think for a lot of the racing cars in the game they will have bare cars for you to paint up and everything
