I was tempted to review this against CS: Source as I have both, but decided uintil I get the full BF2 review.
BF2 Demo...Ah, where do I start?
Graphics: 5/5
Astounding and beautiful graphics. The detail into Gulf of Oman 16 and 32 is beautiful. From the buildings to the vehicles to the ocean and water. Wondefully created landscapes give this a 4 out of 5 stars for Graphics. Some things though, are still pixely up close, but since this is a demo, I won't think much into it.
Sound: 5/5
Gorgeous sound quality. From launching your Assualt's 2nd attack with slow phoosh sound to the heavy breathing of your soldier after a long sprint, to go along with wonderfully created footsteps. The vehicles all have their own little sound and are redone beautifully from the afterburners of raging jet or vertical take off to the tank running along the desert. The explosions are also great.
Landscape/Enviroment: 5/5
Beautiful. I'm putting this differently, as I wanted to review the landscapes in design. Wonderful designs.Traveling through the small city and such is great to see it.
Gameplay: 5/5
Awesome gameplay with some objectives that seem easy, but are quite hard. The ticket feature is a cool little thing to see. And capturing the points provide some of the greatest intense firefights. There's so much to explore and fight in.
The dog fights from jets and bombing of areas really shows war. And making objectives for yourself such as destroying enemy artillery or using an engineer to restore your own is new to me.
Weapons/Positions: 5/5
Every position has been extremely well. With each gun having its own ups and downs means finding the best situation to take advantage of the weapon. Your Assualt provides some nice devistations and with 2nd attack, can clear out enemies fast. The missles from jets and helicopters are also great. And even the carriers AA gun along with the Anti-Tank are great for getting rid of annoying enemy vehicles. As for positions, when a team seperates and each using a combination of these weapons, they can easily take down enemy forces. From using a medic to restore fallen solidiers to using a Support to cover Assualt vehicles and supplying them. When used properly and in combination, any side can be an unstoppable force. Learning to use these positions/weapons in combos with your squad and where each weapon can devistate an entire area will give you the advantage.
AI: 5/5
1 word: Veteran. Even the hardcore FPS gamers may have to take some time getting adjusted to Veteran (Intermediate). The AI uses all sorts of tactics on you, and knows the ups and downs of their situation, but then again, so does your team. The AI can be extremely smart when stepping up from a New Soldier position. And when you think you got 'em beat, they get you. They get you hard.
Controls: 5/5
This will be seperated into 4 parts.
Boats: 5 out of 5
They are easy to control and with your team, you can really put out some damage on some aircraft.
Land: 5 out of 5
Vehicles are easy to control after a few minutes, and alot of vehicles, like guns, have ups and downs. Tanks can punish Humvees and AAV vehicles, but in the open, can be obliterated by falling jet bombs. Great selection as well!
Aircraft: 4 out of 5.
They take a good amount of time to conquer and master. Helicopters tend to be tail happy, and it takes some time to control their turning. Then comes finding time to blow up enemies. Jets are also a bit tougher. And have a quick response. Fighting with them even takes some time, but they can really pull off evassive manevours after mastering.
On-Foot: Basic controls (w,a,s,d), and very helpful controls. From laying down, to sprinting and more to help fight off the enemy. Excellent control as well.
Overall: 5 out 5
And this is a demo. I haven't even experienced the full retail. And there's even an Expansion coming. With maps allowing 64 Max, and 30+ vehicles, this game is everything you'd want out of a more detailed Counter-Strike.
It takes some time to adjust to, but its a guaranteed blood-pumping experience.
Expect the Full Verision Review very soon.
NOTE: I didn't review Online, as imo, that's based on what the player thinks.
But I love it.
