Beater or Sleeper? GT6 Car of the Week Thread

Ominous words, Sir Lewis. It seems you know something that we are not aware of... Very interesting.

I expect it's something obvious, so obvious that we don't think anyone would go for it because it's so obvious, or it could just be a bluff. :sly:

Anyways, here's my review of all 3 SRT VGT's or to give its full title,

"How To Avoid Being Scalped: The Drivers Guide To The Tomahawks"

We'll start at the bottom, which is still higher than 90% of all the cars in GT6 with the Tomahawk S model.

The S is the "Street" version packing over a thousand Horse power in a sub one tonne body.

The S sits at 747PP after an oil change which puts it right at the top of what most LMP racers could get to.

The Spec list said that this car will max out at 250 mph, but that's without activating the "Low Drag Mode" which allows the S to do 311 mph.

At 747PP, it dominates.

At 650PP, it'll dominate, not many (if any) cars can get to the 4th lap in the 24 mins of Nurburgring.

Next up the list, the GTS-R.

More power, much less weight and A active rear wing.

The spec list for the GTS-R says it'll do 300 mph, in "Low Drag Mode" it'll do 345 mph.( fun fact: my former speed record was set by a C7 Corvette Prototype at 342 mph early in the games life when drag wasn't as noticeable at high speeds. ;))

It can be de-tuned to run in 750PP events so you can race it at Le Mans 24 minute enduro.

Last but definitely not least, the X model.

Most powerful car in GT History at 2600 HP, capable of well over 400 mph in "Low Drag Mode".:bowdown:

This car has also the toughest seasonal event yet which shows PD does have a sense of humour. :P:D

It also takes active aero to a new level with flaps and wings all over the machine.

At low speeds, all 3 are dicey to drive, but the X is dicey at all speeds, it demands 100% attention from the driver and 110% reaction times.

If somehow tamed, the X could very well be the official Speed King of GT6. 👍

Now, if we're going by event availability, then the S model is the one for you as it can be used in quite a few high end events.

All 3 are nuts, redefining how fast one can go around a track and whilst some may look down on them as "pointless wastes of time", you can't argue that it's something different and mind blowing in what they can do.

Verdict: Drive,Drive and Survive.👍

If I'm wrong about this, and I very well may be, it would be in everyone's best interest to cheer for Sir Lewis (knight the man, dammit!) to do well tomorrow. Winning pole is half the battle.

On the bright side, I found these for you:

And a little something specifically for @Baron Blitz Red :

Oh Suzuka, what the actual hell. That video a first for me, I can tell you that much...

And well, knowing what happened in F1;

Since Lewis Hamliton won today in England, could we see a good car appearing for next week's COTW? You know what Brad said... :mischievous:

Took a gamble... it paid off!

Congratulations Lewis_Hamilton_ on your "win" at the British GP!!! Fantastic drive! Tell us what you've selected!

I have missed some weeks but don't believe we have had a 4WD or station wagon for a while. So here's one which is both, is affordable and can do a bit of everything, the...

It's the 2000 Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon STi (Type-I)!!!

I love wagons, I love Subies. Should be an excellent week!

A Subaru wagon that isn't technially a Legacy, eh?

Colour me Impreza'd...

...Impreza'd by the horribleness of my pun.

That's hardly Imprezzive, CSM. You need to know when to Imprezz people, and you're failing at it.

Just like me right now, in fact.

Not the "Legacy" you want to be remembered by people... maybe use a "360" and turn it around a bit! :sly:

Cheers

Are you really sure you want to keep the "Subaru Pun Train" going, Mr. Canadian Forester? You might make BRATs out of all of us here, especially those who may live near Tribeca... But that's your choice. :sly:

You might have a point @Niku Driver HC... maybe we should stop. This could get contagious and wind up getting one of those nasty STi's my doctor tells me about. ;)

Cheers

Ah, the Audi RS 4 '01. Let's see the specs on that one...

2.7L
378 hp / 6,500 rpm
325 ft-lb / 2,500 rpm
1,620 kg (3,571 lbs)

So the Audi has +82 hp, +30 ft-lbs, and +190 kg. It costs 11,410 Cr. more than the Subaru.

A base R33 Skyline GT-R is barely quicker, making it another good rival.

Perhaps most surprising is that the Impreza 22B and STi '10 are never out of reach for this wagon.

Honestly, I don't think it gets any more "sleeper" than this. You could simply change all the STi badges over to regular Impreza badges and blow the doors off unsuspecting Supras, 370Z's, Genesis, Corvettes, and more!

So let me get this straight; this Impreza Wagon, which has to "respect" the infamous Japanese Gentleman's Agreement, is faster than an Audi wagon which does not have to comply with a horsepower limit? And it does this without losing any part of its 4WD system? Well, I'd say that seals the deal on the Impreza's rating alright, I don't normally compare Japanese hot wagons with German ones, but this Impreza does the impossible and beats one soundly.

Not to mention it only loses a few tenths of a second to the legendary 22B, one of the most powerful GC-generation Imprezas of all time... And it smokes a Supra RZ, while it's at it. What more can you want out of a car like this!?

It's a shame the USA never got the "276 hp" twin-scroll 2.0L STi. Instead we were stuck with the inferior (in my opinion) 2.5L unit. For the base WRX, we did get a 2.0L but it only had a weak 227 hp...

Mitsubishi was a bit smarter and gave us the same 2.0L in the Evo that served duty overseas.

Classic JDM problems, I'm afraid. We could list all the great automotive-related cars and versions that Japan kept to themselves in car history, and we would have a whole library full of them. The Daihatsu Storia X4, the Impreza STi engine issue that you mentioned, the Toyota Starlet Glanza V... What a pity. Japan loves to keep the good stuff to themselves, and when they do, it can really make a car man jealous.

No brainer this week all round legendary car. Great on gravel or seal, well balanced and torquey flat four. Predictable handling makes it a fun drive.

I drive a worked GT forester on the same platform and my bro has an STI sedan. Even better IRL.

I was so impressed how this car could haul both itself and other stricken, bigger, very heavy cars with no trouble, where as the others failed to get themselves up the same road multiple times.

That can all be explained with one simple (even if it is slightly cliché) reason; the Japanese penchant for reliability and toughness. Most if not all Subaru 4WD cars can take a beating and yet they'll glad go through the most treacherous roads, all this while remaining as composed as possible. One can't underestimate the off-roading prowless of a 4WD Subaru, even if they are not the prettiest cars. Case in point; the Subaru Forester. It's hardly an award-winning design, but by God that thing can haul loads when it's asked to do so. And you could even get one in STI flavour if you were feeling brave, so it could be a strong sleeper of a car just like the Impreza you elected as COTW...
