Beater or Sleeper? GT6 Car of the Week Thread

Just got home from work and I am too exhausted to race even if I could :(

I don't know why but I'm offended by all the hate for the Crossfire. It's as quick as S2000's and Z4's and Golf R's etc etc...

Everyone has their own reason to dislike it, for what it looks like, what it stands for, how it drives and so on.

I've made my case for the styling, however if it can impress me in how it drives then it would be a textbook sleeper, ugly and/or unassuming yet quick/or fun to drive.

To be fair though to the Crossfire, whilst it maybe taking fire ( see what I did there? :sly: ) from us, its not as bad as one or two other cars we've driven in terms of hate thrown towards it.

From my testing, it's faster than the S2000 and Z4 and handles better. Unlike the Challenger, I don't feel dumber behind the wheel...

For me, it's like looking at a model created by someone with both ADHD and OCD. As a whole, it makes no sense. I would rather be raped than look at this car.

Then there's the fact that it's made by Chrysler. This car could've been a hit had they simplified the shape, and left the trim trash in the bin. I'm especially appalled by the rear spoiler, and that it's efficiency was scrapped just to fit around a badge at the leading edge. Why not just deploy an anchor?

In summary, I find that this car does nothing for the soul, and would be better used as a weight for trout fishing. I would pay twice it's cost not to be seen in it, which is probably why there isn't a convertible.

On the subject of VGT's, I share many of the previous thoughts stated here. The Infiniti - isn't too bad, sure I see hints of the Nissan & Mercedes VGTs here-&-there, and that makes me question things, especially when we still don't have the new Z/28 or Z06, despite the buddy-buddy relation between PD & GM, but overall it is a welcomed addition to my garage in that 'Black Knight' color :D, I should see how it stacks-up against the FT-1 sometime...💡

The Chaparral 2X, while cool as a 'resurrection' of the brand, is kinda out of place in my opinion, especially with its 'glide-suit' controls in a 'steering wheel & pedals' based game. We know the handling is already... lets say odd, but the powerplant is probably the most interesting aspect of the car, if not the center-piece of the project itself really.

I am interested in what Mazda could be bringing to the table, as stated in my post here. I'll be blatantly honest, I'd be happy with a Lola chassis period, I love all the 'recent' LMP creations as of late, and I just hope Mazda doesn't stray too-far from that. At least until I've had a chance to properly drive a 'premium' one in GT.

Back to the thread itself, I may be as 'neutral' as someone can be toward the Crossfire, it wasn't never a car that I 'acknowledged', I neither loved/liked it or hated/cursed it. Perhaps its for the better ?, Possibly not ?. I'll get around to it sometime this week, and I'll find out what this car is all about then. 👍

Both were recalled. Accountants should not design or assemble cars.

Hated to miss tonight, but after near double digit levels of disconnects from the server (even after rebooting both modem and console) before I could even drive a single foot, I finally conceded defeat to Mr. Thomas. "Dear Polyphony, all I want for Christmas is a stable online experience."

So apparently we're not getting the 918 anytime soon either. :P

To be fair, after all that racing, I still reckon my hate for the car is justified. Especially on that last race at RBR. Dear god, the understeer is real. Or maybe it's my driving. Anyway @SuzukaStar, the biggest problem I had with this car, is definitely the engine. 7 races couldn't dissuade me from the fact that the acceleration of this car is just....weak. You can argue about the chassis being manageable, and I probably wouldn't question that. I just hate that engine immensely.

What a fantastic turn out tonight and few niggling things aside, the racing was superb in every race. Great battles going on all through the field and some very impressive performances from many people, they have really upped their game.

That was one of, if not the most enjoyable CoTW night I've had.

I didn't find the handling as bad as I was expecting given early impressions from others, there was understeer but I thought it was within manageable levels. The engine however, sure doesn't feel like it has 200 something horsepower, it was rather gutless. It was fun to drive though, even if it is a little front heavy.

Overall I would class the car as a beater. I wouldn't say it's bad by any means, but there are just better, faster options available. I expected better performance from a small sporty vehicle. In it's budget and PP rating, with a similar size and power output, you could say it is a rival to a Honda S2000, and you'd be much better off going with that option.

.......Except they DID make convertible Crossfires.

So quite the turn out tonight, another full lobby.

It's already been said but damn is it worth repeating, everyone has upped their game.

It's amazing to think that earlier this year it wasn't uncommon to see me or Lewis 20 - 40 seconds clear of the pack, but now we're fighting just to stay ahead by a couple seconds if that, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

The Crossfire did hold up well in handling, it still understeers but so did the 458 to a degree.

Yes the engine felt a bit gutless as kinda predicted but now I've corrected that with around 400hp in a 1100+kg body.

In stock form, it's a sleeper, but by the slimmest of margins as there's more choices which are, more powerful, lighter, cheaper and so on for the perfomance level.

Enjoy your holidays all, looking forward to the final COTW of 2014. 👍

I'll leave this photo here as it sums up the night nicely. Its the end of the final lap on the final race: Side by side finish between both 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, with a 3 car battle for 6th, all within one screen shot.

Thats pretty good screen shot of the race. I'm at the very far back chasing down MC and Rob_On_Drums. Still it was a great night of racing and very competitive bunch of people with position battles in every race. To bad we had some technical difficulties though out the night with the server. What I noticed with the connection or server is when MC had it set to fixed host we had horrible lag but when we started a new room without a fixed host I didn't notice the lag so much. I agree with most of you that we all have improved since this started about a year ago and I'm working at being more consistent with my lap times as I've seen that with some tracks I can run about the same lap time as Lewis and Vic but can't keep the same pace as them. So I just have to worker harder at that. I'm looking forward to see what the New Year brings for our group of COTW.

Chrysler Constipation.

Judging by how badly the car flopped, we should call it the "Chrysler Misfire"...

Eyyyyyyy.

P.S.: I don't actually hate the Crossfire all that much, it drives okay for an old SLK makeover of a car. I can tell you it lacks fizz (probably much like most of its owners), so other coupes are better options if you want an exciting drive.

Kind of surprised how many of you express your dislike for this car. I guess there aren't many design type of people commenting here.

See the previous page. As far as design goes, it's ADHD with OCD. Too busy with trim to make the overall package appealing. As I said before, I'd rather be raped than have to look at it.

Well, just a couple of weeks after we've been given not one, but TWO VGT cars, Mazda drops another one on Christmas Day. Anyone driven it yet? Any thoughts?

Sorry @LVracerGT that last race was completely my fault. Didn't see you as I was going back on track.

No worries, I was frustrated from the previous race when I braked early and just had one of those random GT moments when the car decides not to slow down at all. When you pulled out it turned me sideways instantly at the beginning of that long straight so I just decided to call it a night. Sorry I jumped out of the room so fast, I had a friend over waiting for me to get done racing. That was going to be my last race anyways.

Well, it looks amazing, goes like stink and sounds exactly like I envisioned (heaven on earth with a spice of Red Bull Xcar noise). All in all, I'd say it's a magnificient piece of kit, and a great Christmas present. Despite some understeer, that noise and perfomance are more than enough to keep yours truly satisfied. And at least, it might quench the thirst of the angry mobs who hated the 2X for being too radical...

Well the 2X has had a fix for DS3 users so it's more easier to drive so I'll see what's different later.

(After driving the LM55 of course :P)
