And we all know the British civil service is a well trimmed, lean political machine and not a fat, bloated tax burden.

True the top jobs are taken by those with no real skills for the job just that they took classics at Oxford. Unlike the French system where everyone goes through a training course and you are assigned a job based on the tasks you performed best during training.

The civil service however could be argued to hold the real power. It is not unheard of for civil servants to withhold information so that their view wins in the house etc.
