Best car on The Ring for noObs?

The Toyota Prius (early style) surprised me the most around the 'ring.' It would be perfect for noobs among the other low powered cars.

The Lotus however is a lightweight animal and requires familiarity with cornering precision. You might start off rather slow in this car, but guaranteed, once you've found the Elan's limits, you'll be astonished!
;)

I'm going to have to agree with Aero_HDT here!

While driving the Lotus Elan, you're not going to have the best top-end speed, but what is lacking there, you definitely make up for in what I think is the best handling car, based on other similar cars with relevant HP.

Even if you're not all that familiar with the layout of the "Ring", I feel like even a newbie could easily hop into that car and have fun running the track, as it offers a sense of out driving your own car (that is if you own a car) and going for a nice Sunday drive with no one else on the road.

Great car for the money and should offer up many, many hours of fun driving on the Ring.

I am learning the ring as well. In preparation for Mission 34. So to learn the track, I just set out to do s-16. At the moment I got to below silver time. Down to 7.23 ish. The MB 190 seems well balanced. Not too much power, enough to get the job done, and nice enough for a sunday drive. Just my 2 kroner worth.

The Benz 190 great car for the ring, also the Nissan Motul Pitworks 350Z is very stable & comfy.:)

Haven't tried the Nissan. To my view of thinking, rather than take any car around it in Arcade, why not try an achieve something while you're learning it. If you see what I mean. But maybe next I'll have a rip with the Nissan. Can't hurt.

It's been a while since I've visited this thread. But, I found a really good stable and quick car for learning the 'Ring, the Cusco Subaru Imprezza. It allows you to focus on the track, rather than controlling the car.

When I was searching for an image of the car, there were a few people that posted a shot of the car about to be used at the'Ring.

I would highly recommend any of the DTM's - they are powerful and fast, but God bless the Germans when it comes to building cars which are a driver's dream.
Exceptional handling coming in the form of an ABT Audi TT-R Touring car, or the Opel Calibra Touring Car, or even the AMG Mercedes 190E Evolution II Touring Car... Anything along those lines with nice soft tires on would be perfect.

^I would think an MR2 would be horrible for a n00b. Too much tricky behavior.

I agree with your other choices, tho (S2000 and Merc 190E), although the Merc assumes you'd need to win it first.

Well, if you're going to use the 190E road car, then you might as well just use License IA15 rather than go to the trouble of winning the car. Unfortunately, you probably won't take to the Comfort tires equipped in the test if you're fairly new to the game, and everyone hates the pace car on that test because it's slower than the 190E in capable hands.

I would recommend learning it in a high-weight car that is AWD, or RWD. The extra weight helps a newer player avoid being rattled by the bumps. Some of my favorites here are the Audi S4 or the Jaguar XKR R-Performance. Running soft tires doesn't do the track justice- its more practical to run N3s in free run mode. This, along with the extra weight of the cars, makes proper braking points and racing line essential. When you practice on low-grip tires with a predictable breakaway point, I find it easier to learn from mistakes. It also makes it easier to drive conservatively with the LeMans-style racers, who easily run sub 6-minutes laps.

Volkswagen Golf Mk.1 GTI 1976.
Forgivable, bit slow but still fun to drive.

I liked it on the Ring and you could tune it up a bit.

Hmm, I don't think I'd agree to using a high-weight car; rather the opposite. If the car is heavy and you take a corner a bit too fast, it will go off - the weight will carry you into the scenery. With a lightweight car, you've got more of a chance to recover. And as a bonus, you'll be faster.

I tried the little Daihatsu Copen K-car (tuned, about 100+ BHP) to see if it would go faster than Clarkson in his 9:59 200 BHP Jaguar lap in Top Gear. Got a 9:58 second try. Found it very easy to drive, you can concentrate on the track much more than trying to keep it on the road - good for beginners. 👍

I don't particularly care for production cars, as S3 tires are too slippery. Took out the Supra RZ for a couple of laps. I found myself focusing too much on keeping the car under control than allowing the track to be ingrained into my cerebral cortex ;) R3 tires are a must!

S3 too slippery? Heck no. Try N2, much more of a realistic depicition of real 'street car' handling on regular sports tyres. :dopey:
Agree that the car's handling shouldn't distract too much from dealing with the track, though.

The first time I drove here was about 2 years ago... Driving a BMW 330i as it's one of the easiest car to handle... Not just that, it's quite fast too!!!

I did around 50 laps already with that car and the next step is to get an M3... Later, go for the Big Mama!!! BMW M5...

If you have mastered all of the car, go for the highly tuned car simply get a Le Mans car...

That's what i do as a newbie and now...not anymore... =)

Kind regards,
Kidrauhl...

I'd suggest a BMW E46 m3. the car handles great, has good braking, and won't be too fast whilst still being fast enough that you actually learn the track rather than just drive around it slow as hell. seriously, a Miata is great and all, but you can sight-drive too much with it. the BMW forces you to learn the track without being too much to handle.

a Mercedes Evo 2 street car is also a great way to learn it. such a good little car.

the best advice? try something that you are good at driving. don't jump into a car and try to drive the hardest track in the game. it's not smart.
