Hello GTPer's!

I would like to start a poll on several classes. First of which will be the best homemade wheel stand or low budget wheel stand followed by the best mass market wheel stand.
The 3rd class or poll will be for best full SIM Frame that is home made or custom made. Versus the 4th and last class or poll to be the best full frame driving SIM.

Okay I will need a link to or a photo of your nomination posted in this thread with the class you would like to enter and I will finalize the poll in a few weeks. No set deadlines as of yet. So again here are the four classes.

1) Handmade or custom made wheelstand.
2) Mass market wheelstand (i.e. Wheelstand Pro, Fanatec wheelstand)
3) Handmade or custom made Fullframe driving SIM
4) Mass market Fullframe driving SIM (i.e. Visionracer, Playseat)

Looking forward to your entries! :) Hmmm! seems I can only make one type of poll for this thread. I was hoping to make at least four. Anyone know if I can add more?

Sounds intersting. When I'm not typing from my phone (DROID) I will post up some nominations.

;)

Chilicoke for full frame. His setup is just stunning

I too used his setup to inspire my own... This is what I have so far of my 350Zt cockpit. Should be mostly up and running within two weeks.

CHILICOKE !

Absolutely 👍

I have yet to see better than what he did.

This one is what i have at home:

by the way, that's not me driving... i hired a professional race car driver to test it out... j/k, but that's still not me.

I will post the DIY for my rig for those interested, just PM me ;)

Chilicoke for handmade or custom-made Full frame driving SIM.

Working on a SCU (self contained unit) based on his setup, will post up for nomination if it's done in time.

Thanks to Chilicoke for the inspiration.

Sorry for the multiple post. I wanted to separate the diffent designs

something new from my country, looks good

Holy Crap! That's cool. Lounge chair gone wild. How much does that cost?

I think this one is one of the most creative one I've seen considering it is only using a simple tube frame but with a very creative way of making it look astetically pleasing

Hey Radracing,

I'd definitely nominate the Obutto cockpit for best mass-market cockpit.
I've had mine since September, and I love it. It's all very adjustable--from the seat, to the pedals, to the shifter mount, to the keyboard tray, etc.
And it's extremely sturdy. I went from having my wheel hardmounted to my computer desk to the Obutto, and it is noticeably much sturdier than the desk.
There is absolutely no wobble with the wheel or anywhere else in the cockpit.

It's about $30-$40 more than the Playseat Evo including shipping right now, I think. I was lucky enough to get mine for about $340 including shipping.
Even at the higher price, I think it's definitely worth it for what you get.
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

Here are some pictures:

Yup, I've heard a lot of good things with Obutto. That was "cmpinberkeley" first choice. But I manage to let him try my frame out before commiting. How is the shifter bracket, is it as solid as the wheel holder? It sure looks pretty adjustable. Can you move the wheel closer or further away from your sitting position besides the hieght? I wonder how well that monitor bracket will hold the triple monitors?

Cool, can't wait to see some pics. Are you painting it orange? I like the additional cup holder.

Here's mine... ok actually it's not, it's from a bloke from TWIP forums. So yah, props to him. Very clean and neat!

I have a buttkicker, a custom G25, and a 24" Asus widescreen myself. I will follow this setup once i get enough cash to buy the seat. Btw, the cockpit is the Bob Earl Racing VRC (Virtual Racing Cockpit). I like the seating position. It's suppose to simulate open wheel race cars.

Yes, Bob Earl Racing VRC one of the poineer in racing seatframes. Been around a while. Very no nonsense straight forward design perfect for the openwheel SIM racer. Good one. One of my first online friend in PSN from Canada "RevStar" introduced me to this frame. I think its very well priced too if I'm not mistaken. Will have to checkout thier website. It's been a while. I like the vintage look of the racing seat.

Just added "RennSport" Cockpit. I think one of the more expensive SIM Frames. A little over the top. Lots of fru-fru stuff going on don't really know what they are for but the seat is a thumbs up although access in and out looks difficult. The keyboard under the wheel is a big plus and the monitor stand looks very solid. All the rest I can do without. Well the speaker brackets I guess is useful. Although I race with headphones.

I know there are more good PVC home made frames out there worth mentioning. 💡

Hi Radracing, thank you for the mention above :) although there's not much in the post other than my name

Anyway this seems like an interesting thread so I may as well post what I've designed so far.

For the "wheelstand" category I have the 'G25 Table':

And for "full frame sim" I have just finished both the 'Formula Touring Table' + 'Race Seat':

If you need any more pics they can be found in my thread:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=123594
or in my profile:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/member.php?u=98177

I've designed all my items to be able to neatly fold away for storage and transport convenience. There are no detachable parts resulting in a strong and sturdy build and setting up each item takes only a matter of seconds.

The 'G25 Table' is designed for use on any standard living room sofa or couch and has taken into consideration the armrests that would otherwise interfere with the lower mounting of the shifter.

The 'FTT' and the 'Race Seat' have been designed together to provide a very comfortable racing position. The low and laid back seating position evenly distributes the body's mass throughout the chair's seat and high backrest to ensure hours of painless endurance driving.

Both tables feature a fold out peripheral desk which can be used for mice and keyboards, extra game pads or even a flat screen TV. The ergonomics of both designs allow for users of many different heights to experience the same levels of comfort by allowing custom height placements of pedal units and the simple function of moving the unit closer or further away to simulate the function of a sliding chair.

If you need any real life photos I'll be posting them up in the next few days

It's supposed to be Sunburnt Orange to match my 350Zt, my s/w doesn't have much for coloring :embarrassed:(

Not at first, I won't. It's far to cold here to bother, I'd end up having to re-do it; That would piss me off. I'm just going to wire brush/polish the you-know-what out of it and use it until it gets to be painting weather. I've thought about powder coating, but, with the money I'm investing now, if I did PC it, it would have to be more towards May or June.

The shifter bracket is very solid. There is a very, very slight amount of give to it if you really pull/tug on it, but in normal use, it's not going to budge. You can adjust the height of the shifter a little bit, but not much.

As far as the wheel mount goes, the way it is designed, you insert it into two carbon steel tubes and just slide it up or down. But it's almost at a 45 degree angle, so in effect, if you slide it down it moves the wheel further away and if you slide it up it gets closer to you. Also, you can slide the seat forward and back just like in a real car, so this, along with the way the wheel mount is designed, makes it pretty easy to find a comfortable seating position in relation to the wheel. Although I could see where it would be better if there was a way to adjust the wheel position better vertically/up and down. But the way it is designed--sliding the standalone steel wheel mount into the twin steel posts--makes the wheel incredibly stable.

I actually haven't even tried using the monitor mount. My guess is that it would handle a single monitor up to 32" fine with little if any wobble.
But like you, I don't know how well it would stand up to a triple monitor setup.

Yeah, I can see the forward and backward motion of shifting to be fine. I think its the left and right movements I'm worried about since the main point of connection to the frame is set far back. Might cause you to miss gear changes in the middle gears like 3rd and 4th gear. Overall I think its pretty good. :)

Well I think we are all looking forward to seeing the finished product. Lets see if you can give Chilicoke a run for his money. Good Luck! 👍

Thanks for the extra pics. That bucket seat looks good. I bet it will even look good with a custom seatcover, nicely done.

Another thumbs up for the Obutto cockpit 👍👍. I got mine 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't put anything bigger than a 24' -26' on the monitor bracket. I have a 22' BenQ on it and is sits in perfect position. The g25 in full motion doesn't wobble the frame hardly at all, at least you don't notice it while your driving. Other than that this thing is fully customizable. You really can't go wrong. I bought it from these guys in australia (I live in Sydney).www.pagnianimports.com.au. They are so quick and helpful.

Looks like Obutto is our leading SIM Frame for the mass market and Chilicoke is for the custom SIM so far. No one has elected on any of the wheelstands. Come on guys lets hear your feedback.

About wheelstands, I can give you my feedback on wheelstand pro.

I have bought one last Christmas and I am totally happy with it. Sturdy, easy assembled. I played so far GT5:P, F1:CE and SCC on it and it is completly stable. Another thing I cannot praise enough either is their costumer support.

When I bought it I had the DFP wheel. Since the price difference was very low between the wheelstand pro for the DFP and the one for the G25, and since you can install the DFP on the G25 one, I choose to buy the latest hoping to upgrade my wheel eventually in the future.

I actually did it a couple of week ago but when I was installing the G25 on the WSP the additional gear shift plate was hard to install since it would be only possible to fix it to the wheelstand with 1 screw. Also, the wheel plate was a little bit to narrow so making it impossible to fix the wheel through the clamps and screws simultaneously (I had to either choose one or the other). I've contact WSP in Poland about it and they requested some pics from my WSP. They reply that they had change both the wheel and gearbox plates and mine was one of the older versions (I bought it to their distributor in Portugal). They post me a new set of plates free of charge and things solved!

👍 Top quality product, value-for-money product and aftersales service!

Good to hear. The last thing you want is to be stuck with something that dosen't work.

I really don't know much about this company "Rinoseats". The best thing to do is just send them an email. Fairly new too, so I would wait until someone gives it some reviews or feedback.

I too have a Wheel Stand Pro and I can also testify to the service received from the guys over in Poland. I ordered mine on the 17th of December and received it only 4 days later on the 21st. There was full online tracking too which was pretty cool.

I also ordered the M$ wheel attachment for my Xbox wheel. This included a spare upright tube and mounting plate so whenever I switch wheels between M$ and DFGT, it's a really quick process.

My main worry from seeing pictures of it was that it wouldn't be particularly stable. This is not the case though. I get absolutely no movement from it even when drifting. There are videos on their website to show it in use.

It folds up nicely too when not in use and takes only a few seconds to collapse.

If like me you don't have space for a full set up, I would highly recommend the Wheel Stand Pro.

Looks like the Wheel Stand Pro is more highly recomended over the Fanatec Stand even if they look very similar. Is it the price point or design?

I don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard the Fanatec Stand can't be adjusted past 90 degrees from up-right. This would be a problem for me as I'm quite tall so need to have the pedals far away but the wheel close (if you know what I mean).

Also I've heard from the Fanatec Wheel thread that their customer service isn't that great at the moment.
