If he has access to an Alienware outlet retailer.

I'm only stating based on criteria listed/experience. Forget I even posted anything. I do not want the spawning of a senseless argument, or going off topic.

Power adapter should work. Only a IEC compliant AC cord will be needed (cheap).

If he's comfortable buying a US laptop that is already at the top end of his budget, paying to ship it to the UK, and then hunting down a power adapter that works there, have at it.

Don't forget being hit by import charges (20%), plus handling fees.

I saw no argument nor anything resembling off topic.

That crossed my mind but I wasn't sure so I left it out. :)

Assuming the online retailer will even ship outside of the US or North America. Some will, but many won't.

Previous posts have put forth no recommendations.

My last two cents... Black friday is already conceptualized in the UK. Dell has an established market within Europe. Dell has an European Outlet. A deal can be found if you put forth the effort to discover it.

There may not have been any recommendations, but the posts would help him choose exactly where to look for a laptop that meets his budget.

I also just quickly checked Dell's site if they had any BF deals, it's only 10% off of certain models in their retail store. Additionally, while they do have Alienware laptops in their outlet store, they don't have any BF promos and their prices don't include VAT and delivery.

Sometimes play.com do some really good deals on laptops, I remember seeing the latest Haswell 13" MacBook Air go for about 650, keep an eye on them since I bet they'll do deals on other brands too.

Anything but an Acer. Fragile as 🤬. My last laptop(before my current one, which is an HP) dropped from a height of 2-3 feet, destroyed the screen.

Just a word of warning don't do Acer.

I currently use an Acer Travelmate 5720, which I have owned for 6 years. I've had no issues except a deterioration of battery life due to my own bad habbit of keeping the thing plugged in whilst in use.

Whilst I don't think Acers are the best overall (I will likely be looking at Asus when the thing eventually dies), this one is very reliable and I would recommend Acer to anyone. As I would advise with any purchase, check reviews carefully beforehand, particularly with lower end models.

Well I've had two Acers consecutively and the only reason I bought the second was because my wife bought the first one and owned it before we were married. And while we were dating it had a set of issues usually with hardware and heating up quite a bit more than I experienced from others.

I bought the second one on a black friday/cyber monday weekend which is when I tend to buy all electronics online. It had good reviews and I basically told myself that I couldn't possibly have another computer from the same company with issues. The whole one time thing complex, well I was wrong, the computer lost three screws on it's own at the disc drive, the spacing for the keys easily traps small particulates (crumbs) unlike many other keyboards. The placing for the power button is in a bad design area where it can easily be struck when doing important work. The plug in for the charger is faulty though it charges the computer if you accidentally bump into it while charging to say adjust your seating position it turns the computer off.

I'm currently using a Acer Aspire 5750

Thanks for everyones feedback.it is very helpful!:gtpflag:
Personally I've had problems with hp and it's mostly because of user ignorance which just magnified small issues into brain torturing patience sapping issues.:banghead:
My hp runs fairly hot but overall a good laptop, just ignorance has let me and it down.:dopey:

My recent Lenovo (Ideapad Z585), bought for work is well built and currently runs smoothly. I've also had a great experience with HP for numerous years, too.
