In your opinion what is the single best modification you can do to a car on GT4?

In my opinion its tires, I ran the RX-8 cup with a stock RX-8 on medium compound sports tires and cound not get any traction what so ever in corners. Switched to medium R-compounds and the car drove like it was on rails and I was able to put 20 sec. on the feild in 1 1/2 laps. :boggled:

In my opinion it is the tuning. you can turn crap into gold doing that.

a lot of cars handle like a boat when they are high powered so you have to be able to control the way it handles.

i think it is more a question of which modification is the best. I am guessing then you would vote for a racing suspension kit?

I reckon you can't beat a supercharger when available for bang (and driveability) for your buck. Sure tires are probably going to make you quicker - but that's just plain boring ...

I dont know why your quoting me

the other dude was talking about the tire thing

Well understood 👍 👍

and my original point was to question what it was that you were talking about. Simply stating that you like to tune your cars is practically meaningless given the topic of the thread - namely what modifications you prefer.

at the beginning of the game with all the low powered cars, I'd have to say a close ratio transmission.

Otherwise, I'd say tires, then suspension, clutch/flywheel, tranny, weight reduction. Power depends on who you are racing against...

elctrk!
suspension/tires
Same...

My favorite mod is the racing suspension because i love lowering almost all my cars and also stiffening because stock suspension on road cars are usually a bit too soft. But the best peformance mod i think is either an oil change because its very cheap and effective or a new set of tyres.

Forced Induction, creates horsepower not driveablility. Driveability comes from suspension and from supporting mods like tires and camber.

Driveability, my friend, is not merely a function of a cars handling characteristics.

Do a little test for me - get a car that can accept both a supercharger and a high stage turbo charger (3 or 4 preferably) - whack the the big turbo charger on it and go for a spin [sic], then slap on a super charger and tell me which is more DRIVEABLE. You will quickly see my point about driveability. Its all about the smoothness of the torque curve. Turbos tend to be very peeky and hence give you a big whack of torque relatively suddenly - the super chargers give it much more gradually with no lag - hence much more driveable.

A modified car doesnt mean that it drives well
A car that drives well doesnt mean its modified.

A good modification depends on the settings (if applicable) used and driver capabilities. Certain drivers set-up their vehicles differently than others.

In my case, I prefer "grip" over "drift". Therefore, when I tune my suspension, a super stiff rear end in a RWD vehicle isnt what I am looking for.

I think something GT4 really should have included was a way to control the boost pressure. If this was the case I would add turbo's to my cars more often.

But, if the question is "what is the best mod" (w/o setting adjustment) I would say most deffinatley tires.

I'll go..

1. Tyres
2. Suspension
3. Fully Customised Gearbox

In that order, tyres improve grip and cornering speeds, which is key to track racing, Suspension does the same, but is nothing without the right tyres... The F C Gearbox helps with shift times and can reduce seconds all over the track...

some cars handle great out of the box so Im not going to say suspension, so im going with RSS tires or Stage 5 turbo

For me, it all depends on the type of car.

For everything, suspension is the best.

but second best depends on the type of car.

For front-drivers, NA tuning is next

For big rear-drivers, weight reduction

For four-wheelers, it's got to be LSD

Tyres, anything else is pretty much irrelevent unless you can get it down onto the road. Its the one upgrade that all road cars will benefit from.

After that it depends on the car in question and what its natural strengthes and weaknesses are. For example older American muscle rarely has an issue with power but most will benefit from suspension mods; while most FWD hot hatches have good stock suspension but will almost always be happier with a one-way LSD fitted.

Scaffs personal upgrade rule; tyres first, then ask the car what it needs most (but you may have to listen carefully).
