We all can look back at yesteryear and throw out some classics. Stairway To Heaven, Bohemian Rhapsody, Voodoo Child, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Under The Bridge. They're songs that pretty much everyone knows and can appreciate on some level. There's plenty I've missed.

My question to you is this; What songs in the past 10 to 15 years do you think will be all time classics?

I think GaGa is in with a shout, like her or not. Kings of Leon, Beyonce, Jay Z, Eminem, The Killers, the list goes on.

Well. I would say that Radiohead will always be looked upon as fantastic musicians. I would like to think that the Arcade Fire will also stand up well to time. As far as Lady Gaga.... I won't doubt that she will be remembered in the years to come but I am not sure if its going to have anything to do with her music.... people are just going to remember her as a the crazy performance artist who wore nutty outfits. I won't call her music bad or good because I dont really listen to pop at all but from what I have heard its nothing terribly groundbreaking and or evolutionary. I mean people said this kinda crap about the Backstreet boys and Nsync a decade ago... and look at them now. No one talks about their music any more. It was just a fad... something that comes and goes in the pop music world every 2-3 years.

I'm kind of confused. You list songs of yesteryear as a reference than ask what songs of the past 10-15 years will be classics.

Then, you proceed to list artists as your choice, and subsequently everyone else follows up with artists.

Are you wanting specific songs which will be classics one day or artists and their music as a whole?

In rap, Jay Z and Eminem. Anyone who thinks the likes of Flo-Rida count as rap needs to get a vasectomy.

In general, I'd say Foo Fighters.

Dubstep, Disco-Tech, dnb... and anything with pounding bass

Noisia, BetatraXx (just released new EP), Afro Jack, Caligula, Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki and so many more haha

Good point.

I have a hard time thinking that todays music will be considered classic, or old school. But it will happen, and when it does, I'll know I'm old.

Some bands I think will still be played in like 20 years or so are Muse, Weezer, The Offspring, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters. The list could go on, but I don't feel up to listing them all :P

I'm saying some of Iron maidens new material. They've been around for a long time and cater to fans well. Their new material is fantastic. I'd argue they are more popular now than their hoorah in the 80s and they were huge then. Not many 30 year old bands can still consistently sell out 2 nights in a row in under 12 minutes and 50,000 tickets per night. They still headline all over the place, and release new material all the time. They aren't afraid to play it live either.

To be honest dude, I think Mr Brightside is already immortalised. Easily one of the best songs of the past 20 years.

Oh definitely, love their debut as a whole really - I've played Mr. Brightside on my CD player and then later on various iPods/iPhones so many times. It's a song that I grew up with, and it's taken on new meanings and significance as I've grown older. But I wouldn't put them on the same league as the others you mentioned, as those have managed to make an impact both in terms of music and in popular culture as a whole. They've become touchpoints for gossip and trends, they've been loved by fans, hated by others, and are consistently highly regarded by critics in a way that The Killers haven't managed. Achieving a total sense of impact is what will keep those artists on various top 100 lists 15 years from now.

Not sure. Maybe I'm just a cynical d-bag, but I can't really say most music made within the last 15 years or so has really stood the test of time.

I mean I can't sit down and name many memorable songs that I heard within that time.

I think coldplay is awesome enough to earn that title... but its weird to think that their modern(ish) music will someday be called a classic... how much will music change from now 'till 50 years from now...

There's a bunch i have to mention, like Muse's Knights Of Cydonia, Pearl Jam's Sirens, and bunches I'd like to mention, but i just don't have the feels for them as much as the classics (except you, Sirens; I love Pearl Jam)

I was going to mention Bohemian Like You (again, oh come on, SomeDude..) but..

Ever heard of Fire Tiger? A small band of today with the aim to revive the 80s vibe. Energy is their most popular song, and it carries the unexplainable hype of the 80s. Wow, i say.

I am the master of pop, so I can only comment on that stuff, and only if it has come to the UK too.

Daft Punk
keep coming back and proving themselves.
The Killers are there, and I would also add Snow Patrol.
Like her or not, Rihanna has been breaking records and will stay there.
Avicii is one for the future, and Calvin Harris is in that lot too.
You can't ignore Justin Timberlake, he's just come back to the pop world and blown everyone away.
Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay and Muse need mentioning too.
Gnarls Barkley/ Cee Lo Green aren't going to be forgotten in a hurry either.
