The rules are as follows:

  • Entries will accepted until 11:59pm (GMT) July 7th.
  • Each competition's voting will last for one week. The winner of that round will choose the next theme.
  • All entries must have been taken between within the last 6 months and preferably after the announcement of the theme.
  • Entries must be posted as a thumbnail no larger than 700px on the longest edge. Full sized images may be as larger as you'd like.*
  • You must submit only your own photographs, do not post anyone else's work.
  • Only one photograph per person, marked with Final Entry. You can change your entry, but must remove your current entry first and clearly state that you have posted a new entry.
  • You must not vote for your own photograph when the Poll is up. Only vote for a photograph taken by another entrant.
  • The photograph must be submitted with the following information: Subject, Date and Camera used and, if you'd like, the major camera settings - shutter speed, ISO, etc.
*While full sized images may be as larger as you'd like, you should try to limit them to approximately 1200px to enable viewing the entire image without scrolling. It's much easier to see the full effect of the shot when you can view it all at once and not have to pan.

Current theme, chosen by Week #3 winner Boffin:
Night time photography. Basically anything shot after the sun goes down and shows as such.
Good luck, everyone!

One other thing, and I don't want to hear about the double post, I didn't want this to get lost in the opening post. I'm leaving on vacation starting either the 6th or 7th and won't be back until the 15th. If someone would like to man the poll and start the next subject threads, I'm cool with that. If the general consensus is let this one go an extra week, that's fine by me, too. Let me know what you'd prefer, guys.

^I have time to do it if you want.

Tough theme this one, hope enough people post

Eeeerrrrgghh... I only have one lens that's fast enough to take reasonable night photos... We'll see what I can come up with.

Really really reeeaaalllyyyyy struggling
There isn't really anything that interesting to take photos of round here at night. I had a couple of ideas, tried them out but at night with my camera I just get a really crappy yellowish light. Plus my camera doesn't seem to want to focus with hardly any light, so there's less detail and it doesn't pick up what light is there very well either.
But then it's probably because I'm not very good :dopey:

You guys keep picking subjects that I have brilliant photos for - from last year.

Anyhow, night stuff is quite fun so I'm sure I'll come up with something in time for this one.

It depends what camera type you use. Do you shoot with an SLR or a point and shoot? It might be a bit easier to help you if we knew. :)

If you don't have a tripod use a crate and a bag of beans and use long enough exposures

Ahh yeah my bad. I've got a DSLR, a Panasonic lumix

Well then! Tripod, long exposures (ranging from 5secs to bulb setting), an interesting light source, perhaps something moving (such as steam, water, car head lights). I find night time photography a really good way to experiment with different things in terms of subject and angle. Hence why I chose it as a theme.

Just remember to use manual setting and if you are using a tripod, go low ISO to make the tones as smooth as possible. 👍

Awesome Thankyou :) I shall go back out tonight and see what I can do

First thing I did when I got my camera was painting with light. Get a torch, set your camera off on the longest exposure possible and wave the torch around in front of the camera. Just see what you come up with. 👍

I'd have thought that you'd have used this one hfs. It is still technically night as the sun hasn't risen above the horizon.

Wow! So much Le Mans shots!

^ All in favour of Boffin having his own competition so we all have a chance say 'aye'. Yet another amazing shot! Taking my camera out tonight to have a play in the dark :)
