Bicycle pedals-Bottom bracket or bearings

The pedals are moving side to side they never done this before but have resently started I look up on google and people say it's the bottom brackets or bearing in the pedal bit.

How much did the bike cost? We need to find out if its a sealed catridge or the older version where you can tighten it by loosening the lockring and using a 15 cone spanner...

My ball bearings are all rusted and rotted and the plastic is all bent and the pedals lock up frequently. That gets annoying. Funny because the few older ones I have still work like new.

Does the pedal move or does the whole crank arm move?

Are the crank arms tapered square?
They commonly wear and allow movement, if you grab the crank arm and jiggle it you should see if it's just the ar, or the bracket that has play init

I move the left one and the right one will move in the same way with it

The bottom bracket contains the bearings, it's probably simpler to replace the whole thing.
