Do you think there should be a bigger car grid in GT6?

I understand that this would not be possible for online races but in offline races I think it could be. I find it unrealistic that in races you can have a max of only 16 cars in GT5. It is really upsetting in endurance races where there is basically no competition due to there only being 12-16 cars. I think that in GT6, field size should be increased based on a tracks maximum car capacity. This would offer a wide variety of cars to be able to participate and would create realistic sized grids for races. For example, the 24 hours of Le mans has over 60 cars, the 24 hours of Daytona also have over 60 cars, the 24 hours of Nurburgring has over 100 cars in the race. This would add to the challenge of an endurance race. Not just endurance races would be improved, all racing in general would be improved in GT6. For example, NASCAR fans would be able to do 43 car races on some circuits and F1 fans would be able to do 24 car races compared to in GT5 where they have unrealistic, small-sized grids. On tracks like Circuit de la Sarthe there should be a max of 65 cars, on the Nurburgring 24 hr circuit should have a max of 100 cars , Daytona should have a max of 60 cars, Indianapolis Motor Speedway should have a max of 33 cars, mount panorama should have a max of 40 cars and Silverstone should have and max 40 cars. Other circuits would have a max of 30 cars unless they are under 1.5 miles (2.4km) where the max number of cars would be 24 cars. The pits would have more pit crews condensed in the pit lane for this to work and some cars would use the same pit crew. What are your thoughts about this? What would you change to this idea?

60FPS with 40+ machines (Of really high detail at times) on a single course with all it's associated effects including rain, adaptive tesselation (Which was though impossible on the PS3) and sometimes nightfall is probably impossible in GT6. It was impressive already that they could fit 16 machines on the ring with time and weather change in real time on the PS3.

I agree with what @sparkytooth said. If PD implemented this, the PS3 would not be able to handle it.

But I do agree with what your saying, having more cars on the track will be much more realistic and exciting, but if we want this, we will have to wait for GT7 on the PS4, because the PS3 would go *POOF* if PD did this.

The PS3 already can't handle 16 cars consistently; adding more would just make the situation worse.

While I'd like to see more cars in the field, I'm fine with 16 on the majority of the tracks (provided they have decent AI), and don't mind waiting for the next-gen GT titles to expand on that.

Sure, I would love a larger grid, I just don't see the PS3 handling it when there are performance issues with the grid sizes we already have. Maybe on PS4 though.

Stuff like this drives me crazy. People complaining about the amount of cars and jaggy shadows in 5 like they were on purpose design choices. If they could they would...hardware is holding them back.

It might actually be easier online since the cars are spread across systems.

If they do bump the limit, I don't want to see it change with tracks unless absolutely necessary. More options for players are better. Console devs need to loosen up, a lot.

I think they can get it to at least 24 this obviously wont be from release but with updates I think it can be done

@nascarfn They already have problems with 16, 24 makes matters worse.

Yeah, whatever the problem was, 12 was usually the limit for reliable online racing. Once you got over 12 you were almost guaranteed to have connection/lag issues. I can't imagine any more than 16 working on PS3 other than with a room full of absolutely perfect, fast connections.

What do you call it when they choose to turn the graphics up to 11? They made a purposeful design choice to max the prettiness at the expense of other things.

Everyone is restricted by hardware, see the number of games that have PC ports that look way better. Consoles require compromises. Usually devs try and compromise on areas that aren't as noticeable. PD compromised some things that were very, very noticeable.

In a perfect world probably.

Still they want more cars with the low resolution shadows gone and no screen tearing or frame drops while still looking like it does.
People ignore console limitations and act like pd is doing it just to annoy people. You can't have it all. There is a reason those ugly bits are there.

No because it would be a framerate mess. A race like lemans which normally has 55 cars can still be interesting with only 16 with the right AI etc. This year one of the 3 Audis or 2 Toyotas were going to win the race. Everyone else was dozens of laps behind. So 5 competitive cars can make a fun race

You may see 24 or 32 cars on PS4 though

I love that there is more cars. IF they can get 20 the next series I will be happier. I am very content with 16 for now. Makes replays and pics look more action packed.

16 is already an achievement compared to the 6 in GT4 (!) but I'm not optimistic about PS4 versions, maybe 22 max, or this would mean the end of 60fps/above 720p.

With standard cars you could have 32 cars on track I'm sure ;)

GT1 had a hi-fi mode, with only one car but with boosted graphics.

Maybe a future title could have a lo-fi mode, with decreased graphics (30 fps/720p?) but more cars on the track?

It would be great to see multiple vehicle classes in one race, so that you end up with traffic hazzards and stuff! but in order to do this the AI will have to be improve end over end and that is quite a difficult achivement when im pretty sure the PS3 finds it hard to keep track of 16 different AI's, and making it so that the AI can actually overtake other cars AND have like 40 different cars... im not sure how possible that is!

If its possible to have 43 cars on track in NTG:IL then PD could do that.
But not 43 all the time. You could make a 32 car race or 19 car race
Really would be great if this could be pulled off.

I'd rather have 32 standard car race than 16 premiums at the same time.

For the next generation Gran Turismo game I expect no less than 60 cars racing at the same time. A full Blancpain Endurance Series grid.

I'm fine with 16 cars, provided that 16 cars actually participate in the Expert and Endurance events as opposed to 12.

It's been said before that more cars would simply be too taxing on the PS3's hardware. GT5 was already stretching the limits of the PS3 and what GT6 does will be the most the PS3 can handle.

No. We had enough issues in GT5, and the PS3 has not become more powerful since. In GT7 on the PS4 though? Sure!

I'm good with 12-16. Any more cars and she would have to start loosing other things like anti-aliasing and FPS due to the limited RAM of the PS3 GPU. Wait until GT7 with the estimated 4g of dedicated RAM for the GPU....12x that of the PS3.

PS4 they can probably do 32 cars at least 24 cars for sure. PS3 they said they are pushing as much as possible but they cannot do more than 16 cars. Some tracks with only have 8 cars.

We will have to wait for GT7 on PS before we can expect more than 16 cars on track. No chance on PS3
