JPN Old Hunters Edition

Am I the only one here who's still playing this brilliant game? Finished the DLC yesterday. Aside from Ludwig, I handled all the bosses on my own. So many brilliant new weapons, with the Bow Blade being one of my new favorite trick weapons.

After beating the DLC, I went back to the Chalice dungeons, as I want to make a go for the trophy related to it. I was stuck on Bloodletting Beast, but the DLC had finally taught me to stop being so careful with my attacks, and instead be aggressive, and use the fact that you can regen some heatlh after taking damage by remaining on the offense. As such, I beat him on my first go, and with using only 7 vials.

I still love this game. I'd pre-order a sequel in a heartbeat. I wish I had gotten the Nightmare Edition of Bloodborne.

Just like you, after finishing the DLC, I went back to the dungeons and finally got my platinum. Haven’t booted the game in a month or so, but after that latest patch that lets you buy Blood Rocks, I’ll surely go back to it at some point to max a different weapon and do a NG++ run. Or maybe even start a fresh character and go for a complete and solo run. Love the game! My personal GOTY for 2015. Let’s see how Dark Souls 3 will be influenced by it.

I got through the Loran Dungeon pretty fast and without problems, and stopped playing after giving the 3rd boss in the Defiled dungeon a couple of runs. The Defiled dungeon isn't anywhere near as bad as I had read around the internet. No doubt the fact that you can now summon an AI partner helps a lot with dealing with the bosses, but still. It seems to me that the enemies don't deal as much damage as they do ordinarily. Amygdala is being a real pain though. She can just tank such an insane amount of damage.

I'm using a fully upgraded Ludwig sword in two handed mode, doing heavy attacks, and using beast blood pellets to further buff the attacks, but she is just relentless. It's weird. I recall beating the normal Amygdala at Nightmare Frontier after two or three tries using the whip. Perhaps the one in the dungeon has more health.

I'm not overly excited for Dark Souls 3. Wasn't a massive fan of the 1st one, and never actually finished it. I much prefer the trick weapons, and guns rather than shields. The setting in Bloodborne is also infinitely more interesting in my opinion. But we'll see.

Edit: Looking it up online, Amygdala has more than 22.000 hit points in the dungeon

Yeah, she can be a real pain in the ass. My advice – do not summon the NPC, it just makes her have even more health and he is useless as a tank or as a damage dealer. Took me close to 30 attempts, so when I finally beat her, I saved the video. Here it is if you are interested -
Good luck!

Didn't know NPC's increased their health. Cheers for the info. Planning on beating her today. Hope the next dungeon is the last one, as I don't care much for them.

Edit: After watching your video, it's interesting just how different our strategies are. I start off being on the offense, getting in a ton of hits on her legs. I find that her attacks are fairly easy to dodge, as her continues stomps can be avoided by moving behind her legs and then continueing to hit her while she stomps. And the single stomp is fairly easy to avoid as well.

I find that I can't consistantly bait enemy attacks without getting hit myself, and as such, I take a more direct approach, and try and stay close to them.

Super Duper Double Edit: Well, I tried it your way. I baited it's attack without ever taking damage, and didn't go in between it's legs until it had reached 3rd phase, where she rips off her arms. She's my 🤬 now.

Yeah, watching the video again I see it is a terribly slow fight with lots of misses on my part. Basically the first two and a half minutes are just scrap. But hey, it worked. I’m not 100% sure, but you need two more dungeons after that to get to the queen, but they are fairly easy compared to the defiled one.

I'm pretty much just running past enemies in order to get to the levers at this point. So sick of the dungeons. They all look and feel the same. Shame that some really cool enemies got wasted on them. I just beat the Headless abhorrent beast (2nd try), and the queen is all that remains.

Edit: The queen might be just a tad too easy if you summon an AI :embarrassed:
I gave it a go solo first, and figured that if she's going to summon backup, then so am I. We got her down to maybe 33% health before she could actually summon the other spirits. Only trophies I have left now are related to the ending.

So I'm curious. How many bosses have you managed to take down without outside help, Drandiiski? I summoned help for Ludwig, Vicar Amelia, Logarius, Darkbeast Pearl and Ebrietas. The rest I've handled on my own. Vicar Amelia might be doable solo if you can keep her from healing, but the others are just so damn hard.

Well summoned NPCs for a few of the dungeon bosses, including the queen, but that made them a bit too easy, I agree. For the base game, Amelia I find the hardest. I have killed her solo once, but for the other two or three times I have summoned a friend. The other bosses I can do solo. As for the DLC, the bosses are HARD! So I killed them with a friend or two sometimes, with the exception of Maria and the Living Failures. That’s why I’ll go for a complete and solo run someday.

I found out that I was still missing a boss from the DLC. Friggin Laurence.... And what a cheap and relentless bastard he is. So much health combined with several one hit kills and a massive reach. Definately up there with Undead Giant (1st and 3rd variant) for my most hated boss in the game.

Worst part is that very few people are available for summoning in that area. I tried helping others just so that I could at least learn its move set. 1st fight, I died when Laurence jumped towards the other play while I was hitting it with a sword. In other words, he didn't actually hit me. But because my sword was in contact with him while he did his OHK jump, I died. 2nd fight we managed to get him down to just a fraction of health, when his constant lava stream everywhere got the best of me. I really hope that guy managed to kill him after that, because we made it so far. And 3rd fight, he one shot me with a 360 degree OHK, while I was behind him.

He's like the definition of cheap. I can get him down to a little under 50% on my own before dying. I've only had luck in summoning someone once, dispite waiting for quite a long time.

Yeah Laurence is probably the biggest bastard of them all. Took me days and in the end I killed him with two random people, or to put it properly they killed him and was running around trying not to die. I don’t have PS+ at the moment, because I’m not playing any MP game on the PS4. I’ll gladly help you, but can’t.

I managed to pull it off today with the help of a really good player. Beating Micolash at the moment, and have decided to cheese him, because frankly, he's really poorly designed. First phase is extremely easy, but the instant that I jump down to him for the 2nd phase, he does a magic attack that one hits me before I have any chance of even attacking him. As brilliant as this game is, I'm truely baffled that stuff like this wasn't given a look. So it looks like I'll just shoot him to make him constantly come out of that mirror teleport thingy. Good thing Bloodtinge is what I focused on for this character.

Just had the coolest PvP fight. I could hear him coming up behind me while I was about to attack a pig from behind for a visceral. Being a good guy, which I find most Bloodborne players to be, he patiently waited for me to kill the pig. We then did the Hunter Salute in respect of each other, and the fight begun. He was using a chikage, and was being very quick on his feet, so I gave up on using the Ludwig, and switched to the threaded cane in whip mode. And the fight was friggin epic. Trading blows back and fourth with none of us healing, he managed to score a visceral on me, leaving me with precious little health. But I managed to quick step behind him, and get in a few blows. Back to even odds, we were both very close to death. And in an epic final struggle, we swing for one another, both making contact. You couldn't even see the red in his health bar with how little health he had left, but none the less, I was the one to fall.

Epic fight. Saved the replay, and might upload it to YouTube later.

My reaction whenever I'm fighting Ludwig. This guy is so frustrating. I'm running two new characters in Bloodborne. One focused on strength and one focused on skill and bloodtinge. Currently trying to solo Ludwig with the strength based character, and dispite having 35 point invested into strength, 32 in vitality, and using a +6 Whirligig Saw, he is absolutely destroying me. He's just so unpredictable, all his attacks have a wide reach, and the stun lock is an ever present threat.
I've gotten him to his sword phase a couple of times, and it just gets even harder. His sword attacks are almost guaranteed to stun you upon impact, meaning the next swings will hit you too. And worse still, he can do a massively powerful directed energy attack once he gets down to 25% health, which is near impossible to dodge, and will almost certainly kill you. I'm thinking that Lead Elixer might do the trick on his last phase, as it allows you to repeatedly hit him without getting stunned, while rallying should offset most of the damage he does on you.

As hard as this fight is with a strength build, I shudder at the thought of doing this with a skill/bloodtinge build. At least heavy weapons will sometimes stun him, allowing you a few free hits or time to heal.

Edit: I was one hit away. One single hit away from killing him and he just continued to spam his stun lock attacks, cancelling out every one of my attacks. When I died, I was in a state of disbelief, not knowing what to do with myself. I couldn't help but laugh, dispite being extremely frustrated. This game man, this game... :boggled:

I finally beat him, and I can safely say I have never felt this accomplished in beating something in a video game, as I have beating Ludwig. I do think he can be a bit cheap at times, but what a challenge. I've uploaded the video of my glorious victory on YouTube for your viewing pleasure (and my own personal glory :embarrassed:).

This one needs a little bump because Bloodborne comes free for PS+ players this month! I've been playing it since a couple of days after my Dark Souls 3 journey and all I can say is: PLAY IT! It has a pretty steep learning curve when you are new to the whole Souls kind of games but the gameplay is extremely satisfying, the level design is crazy and the world you wander through is something very special.

Have seen that the whole Bloodborne community is readying up to help out newcomers 👍

:banghead::banghead::banghead: why oh why when I decide to buy a game does it then turn up as a plus freebie afterwards. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Still at least it's 25% off plus at the moment. That puts it under £40 again.

When did you buy it? I always check to see what's coming out next month and it's usually up one week in advance

I bought this game with the last Christmas sale (GOTY version) together with DS3. It is free on PSPlus but also on sale once more for non PSPlus players.

I really like it but I can see that newcomers can have a hard time. I started with DS3 and I found the learning curve huge! Didn't play a Soul-style game before and you really need to learn the approach with almost zero guidance. After struggling through the first few hours it suddenly clicked and you start to appreciate the great design of the game.

My start into Bloodborne was much more relaxing and knowing the mechanics helped me out. Plays pretty much the same as DS3, only its pacing is faster and you need to play more aggressive. For the rest, the same. Even some enemies share a lot of resemblance.

I love the cutscenes for the bosses (have done 4) (2 optional and 2 non-optional). Especially Vicar Amelia. Simply stunning but I felt bad though about killing the creature....

Off to the woods....:nervous:

And fear the old blood!

I think the GOTY edition comes with the DLC, but if it doesn't, I recommend also getting that. It's really good, and features some of the best weapons.
