Board parts

Considering repairs what are some of the best parts to repair a broken board, this means transformers, resistors, comparators you name it.
I'm in the works of modding a 360 to be green with purple lights and a better fan but some parts are too chinese.

Sorry, what? Are you asking about component manufacturers? If you are, you generally get what you pay for. If you want it to last a long time, buy a more expensive one. If you want it to be cheap and not last forever, buy a cheap one. You also have to bear in mind the ratings of the components you use, for example if you're using a 0.125W resistor and it's dealing with 0.124W 100% of the time, it may be wiser to use a 0.25W one instead. Switches and connectors often quote their average activations, cycles or insertions (or however the manufacturer names these terms) before failure on their datasheets.

I've never had a problem with passive electronic components as long as you use the right part for the right job. However I've found a number of off-spec active components buying transistors, IC's etc from discount houses. My advice would be to make sure you're dealing with a reputable supplier and avoid the hobby-oriented discount houses.

And please explain how a computer part can be "too Chinese"?
With some lower end flat screens leds and the power supply would blow out because the transformer blew. Replaced with a higher trusted part and it hasn't been giving problems. Also this problem is a lot more consistent in arcade cabinets.

Even higher end electronic parts are almost certain to contain Chinese components regardless of where there item is made or assembled so that is not the issue.

As far as electrolytic capacitors go Sanyo/Nippon, Hitachi, Rubycon, and Panasonic make good high quality capacitors in Japan. The Chinese brands are known for using cheap electrolyte, and this can affect the lifespan greatly.

As @BobK said above buy from a reputable supplier, and ask for the higher quality parts if it concerns you that much.

Close enough. :P

TB
Close enough. :P

Yeah, same point... different generation

China can make high quality stuff, it's just people buy cheap stuff, it's bad, then blame it on the fact it Chinese rather than because it's cheap. Other countries can do poor quality cheap stuff also!

@Mikeybc many of these Japanese capacitors today are only Japanese in name and are actually made in China. They get round this by cleverly saying they are Japanese "brand" capacitors.
