Bottoming Out?

You'll sometimes get sparks, or the car will suddenly feel stiff because the suspension wont compress any more.

Only come across it whilst tuning the Zonda R around Suzuka - with the front lowered by 20 the car bottomed out under braking into t1: you could tell because the car refused to turn in but dissimilar to common understeer, think locking wheels under braking. There were some audio cues as well I think.
Raising the front by 2 (-18) cured the problem so again, very obvious what was happening.

Never seen any real bottoming out on GT5 myself as far as sparks or sounds, but you can see it on that crazy hairpin at Laguna Seca on replays.

You can really feel the car bottoming out when you drive an F1 car at Suzuka. The Ferrari F10 with default suspension settings will bottom out on the backstretch once you get up to speed and the downforce starts to press the car against the road surface. That will give you a good idea of how violently the handling is affected when the car bottoms.
