Bouncing off the rev-limiter

I've never hit the limiter on my car yet. The Civic yeah, because redline was 8k and the limiter was 8k also. But the Rex, the power peak is 7500, the redline is 8k, and the limiter is at 9k. Going there is pointless.

I've hit limiter on all my cars (that have a ECU limiter), on my turbocharged car it happens quite easily and very quickly (as SkylineObession is pointed out). Infact I even increased my limit 200rpm because it is still creating a lot of power at limiter and it's safe on these engines.

^ That reminds me. I drove an AP2 S2000 once with a 4.x final drive (higher than stock.) I quickly found out how quickly the revs rose. I bounced off the rev limiter by mistake a few times. The engine felt like it could do that all day though. Such a well-balanced engine.

The Civic has a 4.76 final drive. And Type Rs were 5.02! :scared:

^Yeah all I can really say is that it was higher than stock. Either way it was a blast to drive.

That pic is not really appropriate dude.

I'm sure Keef doesn't mind but because not everyone in this thread is mature enought to simply chuckle at the comment and keep scrolling I will go back and modify it just for you ;)

I meant GTP appropriate. :P I didn't find it offensive, but thought it may be against the rules of the forum because of the language in it - so was trying to save you from getting told off. ;)

It is against AUP rules, and I thank ye for removing it. I was about to delete the whole sub-thread.

I have done it in 1st on my civic when i tried to overtake someone.

I just hit 6,800 then realized i am hitting the limiter.

Never have. The Skyline was an auto and I couldn't be bothered purposely holding back gears to see if it had a rev limiter, and the most I've revved the Accord up to is 4k. Redline is about 6250.

I've never hit the rev-limiter in my Lantra, I don't even know where it is. Well actually I know it's higher than 6200 rpm. (I've done it a few times in second gear getting onto the highway)

This thread's making me want to find what my cars limiter is. :scared:
Edit: So youtube shows me it's at 6800ish.

Yes and No, I have taken the quattro past it's stock rev limit of 5500rpm but haven't hit it's modified 7000rpm limit.

Grayfox
Overtaking a V8 from the lights, so yes unless you want me to start in 2nd gear(which still can be done on my car)

I'd call that racing someone, I'd call overtaking pulling out into the other lane to pass someone at speed

He didn't want to race and i had to get into his lane before the intersection that was less than 50m ahead.

So, who went all the way with their car?
I didn't, I don't really know if my car has it so I'm afraid of over-revving.
I think every single vehicle I have owned has seen the red line at least a few times. My 69 Camaro has a MSD box and I can set the rev limiter to whatever I want by installing different electronic chips. I used to have it at 7,000rpm but now I have it around 6,000rpm. Comes in handy for road track events just in case I dont shift in time. 👍

The MSD chips look like this. Very easy to change. Quick google images.

This is the MSD 6AL box I have.

My car doesn't have an ECU. So I guess I'm right about it not having a rev-limiter.
But I see that it's rev-meter is from 6000-7000 and then there is a dash but no number (where 8000 is supposed to be).
So yeah, I was well past the redline when I did that 130 in 3rd. I was very scared to be frank.

👍

My first car a 1981 Holden Commodore 3.3L Cylinder didn't have a electronic rev limiter, however it was still limited to 5500rpm because the valvetrain (bounce) wouldn't let the engine rev any further :P
