A tragic story happened in southern Russia, where a 14-year-old boy killed his father with a sledgehammer. This reportedly happened after the boy's parents had taken away his keyboard as punishment after he spent a week playing computer games.

"At around 1am (local time) on April 12, the suspect dealt his sleeping father at least two blows on the head with a sledgehammer," the region's investigative committee said, according to News.com.au. "The man died on the spot from a head injury."

After killing his father, the boy's uninjured but frightened mother gave the keyboard back. The boy then continued to play computer games for several more hours before he fell asleep, at which point the mother contacted relatives who called the authorities.

Russian law dictates that the 14-year-old boy is eligible to be charged for murder.

These types of stories are misleading. This isn't about the keyboard, or computer games at all. It could be the upbringing, crazy person with muderous tendencies, or maybe both. If it wasn't the computer games, it could've been over a party he wanted to go to, or the TV remote.

He won't go on to reproduce like the way he would be allowed to in Britain.

"It would be against his Human Rights"

Insane, but not the worst ive heard. In my opinion, the 2 chinese parents who killed their few months old baby, because they didnt feed it or gave it anything to drink for several days, cause they was in an internetcafe playing WOW... As mentioned before, its the upbringing that causes this, not a computergame, hence the father himself is not without fault. The baby in china was :(

Real or not, it should probably show as a reflection of how computer games, (or computers) seem to run our lives nowadays...

Granted, I'm too busy with life to be on video games often. Once in a while, I get the chance to pop in Gran Turismo or Twisted Metal and play for a couple of hours but that's pretty much it.

Writing this post, I thought of a really bad joke...

In the U.S., you control video games...
In Russia, video games control you!

If you need me, I'll be jumping off the nearest cliff...

So some of you guys really believe that this was over computer games?

I was addicted to Call of Duty 4 in a big way. I probably averaged few hours a day. But lets say that someone took that privilege away from me, do you think I would physically assault that person, let alone commit a murder?

I think you guys are being mislead by the article. Crazy people will do crazy thing. They are just looking for a reason, it just happened to be games in this case.

Yeah, i think you probably would ;)

Very tragic... Maybe he was under the impression his dad could hit restart? Nonetheless kind of sad it gets written off on the video games again! Its obvious there's something terribly wrong with the kid in this case... Or perhaps the parents arent doing their job... Either way I think the root of the problem lies deeper than just video games...

"the boy's uninjured but frightened mother gave the keyboard back. The boy then continued to play computer games for several more hours before he fell asleep"

Seriously? This boy is acting like a robot. But what the parents did was right and wrong at the same time .. I wonder where did the kid brought the sledgehammer from and how he committed to do that. If I were at his age .. I wouldn't really go to that level of "RAGE".

So .. here comes the media blame on video games and blablabla .. I think nowadays kids ... o wait he's 14 .. nevermind forget this.

I'm 15 and I've played GTA San Andreas and GTA 4. I've also done a bit of Gears of War 2, but I basically behave like a noob. I do not go around with a chainsaw chopping up randomers in the street. I do not go around car-jacking or killing people for money that I believe will drop out of their bodies. This describes about >99% of all gamers. And yet the media focuses on the mental <1% of the world's gamer population. Well, there's your media bias.

What would they report then?

A 14 year old in Russia had his keyboard taken away and then decided to get some fresh air?
No, we think the media is spinning this to put the emphasis on the keyboard, or computer games.

This hardly have anything to do with the games. He is a crazy kid, and committed murder over nothing. The story should be about the murderous kid, not some super games that drives normal people into killing others.
