So this month I've reached 30,000km in the GT86 since I've owned it. I took it to the dealership for its planned 4th service, which was a "big service". I paid 380 euros for an entire service of the car. The braking pads were not replaced since I replaced them during the previous service, which was 15,000km ago. According to the mechanic there was no need to replace them again, but recommended to replace after another 15,000km from now. All filters were changed, as well as the engine oil and the differential oil.
There was some rust build-up in the braking drum in the rear of the car that contains the handbrake. That was cleaned up so that my left rear wheel didn't make the noise it used to make which was basically the rust build-up hitting the inside of the drum.
Other than that, the car has been an absolute treat to drive. I've had 0 mechanical issues with the car so far. It feels absolutely bulletproof, and it still drives brilliantly. Even more so after its service. I've also had my first experience with the car where it was driven hard in a group with 4 GT86's. When the tyres are warm, the car drives just so darn good. There is some understeer, and near the limit I don't really feel what the front tyres want to do. So this has me thinking about the kind of tyres I would like to upgrade to in the future.
Anyway, I gave the car a treat after its service and gave the engine bay a good detail:
Now comes the question about the car itself, and whether I should modify it. More to the point: Should I get a new set of shoes for it?
I'd like a slightly sportier tyre that offers more front grip. I don't really mind losing some playfulness in the rear. I was thinking of stayong on a 17" size, but perhaps go from a 215 tyre to a 225 width. I even have some friends who run 235 on this car, or 225 front, 245 rear. 245 rear does look great on this car.
I will be getting a company car from my new employer within a month or two, so I will need to think about having this car as a weekend toy and possibly for trackdays. Either way the Michelin Primacy needs to go once they are worn out. Someone can even get me in touch with someone that can get me semi slicks for half the price of the shop prices, but I would need to fit them myself.
Anyway, feel free to share what you guys would think look good on this car. Currently I'm looking at 17" wheels as I don't really see why I would increase the diameter, and sacrifice performance. Unless I want a garage queen. Japan Racing makes wheels that are fair in price, and look great. So far I've been looking at the Japan Racing JR-3 and JR-10 wheels.
Let me know what you think about these, I adore the CCW-like look of the JR-10s!
