If this is only like a 100lb or less weight reduction with some rear aero then I think it won't be as good as say maybe a 500lb weight reduction with front and rear aero with suspension work along with stickier tires.
This is purely speculation, but could this possibly be Bugatti’s entry into Le Mans with a new race car?
- FIA announces a “Hypercar” category to replace LMP1 in Le Mans.
- High-end manufacturers are building track-focused hypercars that look like race cars.
- “Light and nimble” and “boast enormous downforce” used to describe the new Bugatti model.
- Almost 25 years since the EB110 GT1 race car competed at Le Mans.
I wonder how it would do on track against the fxx K Evo and Koenigsegg one:1.
That it definitely is, at least a 1000lb weight difference. I guess this won't really compete with anything. Just have it's own class kinda like the McLaren 720s.It's still massively heavier than both, despite the "weight savings", so I'm guessing it would still be slower.
My ideal lineup of that class would be racing versions of the following:
Alfa Romeo 8C (2019)
Aston Martin Valkyrie
Audi PB18
Brabham BT62
Bugatti Divo
Jaguar C-X75
McLaren "Speed-Tail"
Mercedes-Benz Project One
Toyota Gazoo SuperSport
(I may be missing some others, though...)
I also wonder, if this new hypercar class makes it into the Gran Turismo series (I doubt it'll make it into Sport), would it still be Gr.1? I personally would make it "Gr. Alpha," and maybe move some cars currently in Gr.1 into this new group, especially if they don't really resemble LMPs and their automaker would still have a car in Gr.1. For example, the Audi VGT Gr.1 could be a good car to move into this new class, whereas something like the Mazda LM55 VGT would remain in Gr.1. But then again, I wonder if it'd "rock the boat" too much, even if these hypothetical class transfers would only be conducted in an entirely new installment?
I'm with you, I feel Bugatti missed the mark with a real deal track weapon. They should have stripped a good 1000lbs from the Chiron going into a new chassis with this body while retaining the chirons engine and trans and the new suspension set up. That would make a perfect competitor to the Koenigsegg one:1. But as is now, this is basically a real Chiron sport. SmhVery underwhelmed by the specs. It has even less total downforce than the Aventador SVJ and not that much lighter than the Chiron. It's 8 seconds quicker than the base Chiron but only 4 secs or so faster than the Chiron Sport. So half of the time improvement is probably just from suspension hardening alone. I was expecting an uber light track special with a Chiron engine bolted on to it, not a Aventador/Centenario reskin situation.
Dat Vulcan-esque rear tailights though
I raise you my ultimate LMP1 grid (whenever the new WEC hypercar rules come into play):
FXXK Evo
P1 GTR LM
Senna LM
Speedtail LM
918 RSR
908 RSR
Zonda R
Koenigsegg CCGT
Veneno
Vulcan AMR Pro
Valkyrie AMR Pro
AMG Project One
Toyota GR Super Sport
Divo
SSC Tuatara
Venom F5
Apollo Arrow IE
SCG 003 C
Brabham BT62
Ariel P40
Rimac C2R
Nio EP9
I doubt any of the customers really care about its track performance.
