Building my cockpit-any suggestions?

Hey guys, sup?

I'm getting my DFP probably within a month or two so I'm already preparing my "cockpit" set-up.

I was thinking of a simple desk, a table, on supports on both sides offcourse and for extra support I'd place a table on the back so that that table holds the suports and the upper table together. I also planned of placing both the TV and PS2 on that table 👍

I already took up the perfect height ;)

Should this do it or does the DFP need the strength of a rollcage? ;)

BTW:

Any tips on how to use the DFP are also welcome!

👍

Pink,

haha a roll cage...

DFP is strong, but it shouldnt shake anything to bits. and its really trial and error. give it a shot and if for whatever reason it doesnt work, revise it and be sure to let us know! peace out

You can bolt it onto basically anything that is sturdy, and of not too great thickness, the typical computer desk is a good thickness - i used that as an interim cockpit before constructing my own. coffee tables are generally good to bolt on, but not so good to sit under... basically any x-table should do the trick, and should be heavy enough not to be moved about by the DFP's force feedback.

if you search through some of the older threads you will see some really simple cockpit setups that dont really look that sturdy but are plenty enough to attach the wheel to. like i said, keep us posted!

haha^^ i done my cockpit with a computer table that was thrown away and i pick it back to my home and i saw the unwanted parts and huala.... it a cockpit without using any cash on it LOLX, retarded but it is still good to have a simple cockpit without using any cash to build on and the table is just right height and nice thinkness to put my DF on.

yep, I'm waiting for GT5, PS3, G25 logitech wheel, GTR and GTL on the PS3 (if ever). Then (I have a dream) and this dream is as follows. Buy a real car. Get rid off the front, the back, the wheel, suspension. Only keep the cockpit. Build in the surround sound, the G25 setup. Get 3 tv screens. Put one in front of you and the others aside of you. ==> surround gaming.

My Mandate:

- cheap to make
- compact for storage
- sturdy and strong
- light and portable

And I came up with this! What do you think?

Note the crossbar under the chair. The front legs of the chair are actually 1/2 inch off the ground, thus the weight of the driver is holding the setup firmly. I can tilt the chair more if necessary by raising the crossbar.

Note also that the pedals are firmly held with two small pieces of wood under the pedal (can't see this in the pictures) that fits snugly into the bottom of the pedal. The bungee cord is to further secure it.

I used the baseboard to angle the pedals to match a real car, and to hold the pedals firmly. Also, you'll see that the base for the pedals and the chair is detachable for portability.

If you want, you can lower the whole setup by cutting the chair legs and side panels (I didn't do this because I didn't want to waste a perfectly good chair from my kitchen!). You can tilt the chair more and seat low to the ground to simulate a cockpit.

AND... the top is wide enough for me to put my favourite drink! Cup holder is optional 💡

Please tell me what you think. Thanks.

Get a digital projector and place it all infont of a nice clear, white wall - it will give a better impression of 'being there' and projectors are cheap now ;)

Yeah I know but I want to create surround gaming. It's much easier to drive if you can "look into" a corner. 1 screen in front is just not the same as 3 screens. Having a real cockpit isn't really necessary but I would love to surround game.

 Thats great supergoop

I'm getting a Wheel soon, I'll proably be doing something similar to yours supergoop.

Dude that is an awesome idea... 👍

i like the surround gaming. i posted a thread about 2 months ago about the 3 screen setup. and i have a photoshoped image of what my cockpit will hopefully look like. i just moved to a bigger place, so as soon as i get paid i am going to buy me a car seat to start from. but man the car idea is awesome, hopefully u get it done someday.just imagine having 5.1 dolby digital sound inside a car :). hopefully GT5 will have better engine sounds, but thats another thread. anyways . can u have a screen on the back of the car? that would be crazy.

ps. instead of three lcd's u can buy 3 procjetors on ebay for $300.00 each shipping include and not have to worry about having deep pockets. unless of course u r really in to high def. just a thought.👍
