Building my custom man cave and simulator

I just did not get time to work on the cave or the rig this past week. I could spare 2 of my guys to paint the room. Hopefully I will get more time towards the end of the week.
I am quite proud of myself for NOT spending time on the cave, because when I get something in my head nothing else matters and I managed to get myself out of "trouble" work-wise :)
I tend tend to leave things late and then rush to get it done, but I have seen over the years I perform much better under pressure

Another Update:

I had some time here and there to work on the project, but to be honest, I got stuck driving the mock-up most of the time . It really gets addictive and I can't get enough of driving.

So here are a few pics I took today: Still a long way off from finished, but at least I can lock the room now and keep out enemy number 1 - DUST!
The room has proper air conditioning now, so the development process of my sim rig will start soon :)

Enjoy ;)

Ohhh now this is looking like a fun project that I will have to keep an eye on. The custom builds like this are my favorite. Especially an entire dedicated man cave. :D

When it comes to fighting dust, I would recommend the same thing I did for my setup (see signature). You can buy foam filters that can be cut to ANY size to cover your fans. I have been using them for about 6 months and they work very well to keep the dust down. They are also VERY cheap.

This is exactly what I am using for the entire dust filtration system I built into my gaming setup. They can be cut into any shape or size and very easy to work with. Plus very cheap.

Thanks for the tip Camaro 👍.
The filters you see there in one of the pictures also has the foam filter inside. I will post a close-up tomorow. They are dirt cheap, I have just not gotten around to fitting the other 5, haha. I promise you, when I'm in there all I want to do is drive... and drive.

Another update:

I had some time over the weekend to work on the cave and here are some pictures. Hopefully soon the development of the rig will start. I made a measuring device to measure all the critical dimensions (32 dimensions in total) of my GTI on Saturday, then had a friend (6'4" tall) come for a fitting, F1 style haha. I will have to transfer all the dimensions and do all the adjustments on the mock-up rig before design on "the rig" will resume.

Area behind the PC and console. All the wires run under the floor and comes out of the floor in front of the rig. Also a 7meter VGA to the desktop monitor wher all the designing takes place.

Workstation monitor still needs to be fixed to the wall for maximum workspace. Iracing being installed on the the pc as seen on the rig monitor. I got quotes for triple 27" monitors today.

I brought my home theatre system to work. Those pc speakers were not that great on GT6 on the PS3

Still a bit untidy, but at least everything works.

Testing the new seat. So much better than the previous one

Another update

I had some time the past 2 nights to transfer all the dimensions form the GTi to the rig and here is the result.

I lifted the rig off the floor to simulate the exact ride hieght of my Gti and opened the side to be the same as climbing intor my car. Pedals, steering wheel and seat all in the exact same position as my car. Pedals still needs to be inverted, but I am holding off until I get my GTEYE spring. I have been waiting 7 weeks now, but it is our own postal service on strike and no fault of GTEYE. Infact Kristian has been very helpful and will ship another order to a freind of mine in London coming back in November.

The gearshift still needs adjustment, but I have been driving the socks off the GTR in GT6.

XRoninx, Thanks for the kind comment, I appreciate your input seeing this whole thing is still work in progress.

Finally I have some "me time" so here is another update.

Yesterday I took delivery of my triple 27" LED's. Got them at a good price.

Also in the package twin GT640 Gigabyte Display cards.

Took one of the monitors out of the box to take measurements. It has Vesa mounts, so tonight I will research optimal placement of monitors and test them through trial and error to get them on the mock-up in prime position, before commencing design of the independant triple monitor stand. As you can see on the picture, one can not take research too lightly and can not be undertaken without a beer in your hand on a Saturday night

I feel like cheating on Gran Turismo, who will always be my "first love", but I have to admit Asseto Corsa is sucking me in very quickly. Anyone else have the same issue? :)

I have spent close to 40 hours on Asseto Corsa and now that release candidate is out, I am frothing to hook up the triples and start driving.

As always, I appreciate your input and advice regarding setup etc. Critical comments are almost valued more, as that way I don't have to make mistakes anyone more experienced than me has made and learned from.

Off topic: Good luck to any people from US reading this post right now. The US Eagles rugby team is playing against New Zealand All Blacks right now. It is a historical match in my opinion, as it sold out 62000 seats at Soldier Field in Chicago. The All Blacks are number one in the world and a fearsome team. (Only South Africa can beat them on current form!!, haha, had to get that in there:)) I really hope for the good of the sport it takes off in the US of A. What makes it so good in my opinion is that they sent their best team to play against US. It will be completely one-sided, but still I really hope it rubs off on the people of America.
