Burnout Paradise HD Remaster

I've never played the original. I also still have the (vanilla) 360 version sitting on my One X since it was a Games With Gold title at some point in the past. At this point, I might as well not play it.

Since my PS3's disk drive broke a while back (and I've had to repair the thing for various reasons over 10 times now so I'm absolutely done dealing with the thing), this is a huge deal for me. The PS3 was the first "big spend" I made during my childhood (two years of saving allowance money), and this was the first game I got on the system. After years and years of growing up on the arcade mainstays of the time (NFS, Flatout, Burnout, etc.), the switchover to an open world and (arguably) the best damage model at the time made it one of the biggest hype-builders for me during it's pre-launch phase, and it's one of the few games that (IMO) lived up to it. I still remember the first time I booted up the game and the riffs of "Paradise City" started playing as the menu faded onto the screen.

I don't know exactly how much playtime I clocked in, but I do know I managed to "platinum" the game before the PS3 got the trophy update, and around five years later decided to wipe my progress and log the trophies to my profile, since they didn't get awarded retroactively. I never quite finished that process before switching to GT6, but even now I still remember most if not all the ins and outs of the map. The only thing I don't think I ever got 100% completion on was the online challenges - but I know I had several hundred of them done.

It'll be great to relive this experience, and maybe get the last of those online challenges finished off too. I'm not sure if I'll have to money for it at release, but regardless, can't wait for launch day.

Also, I stand corrected in terms of my statement of the graphics being similar, was only looking at the cars, specifically the Tempesta in the trailer, which soiled my expectations.
As some guy on the internet demonstrated:

Also
For those who already have Burnout Paradise on PC, then yeah, I'd say it's a waste.
We didn't even officially get all of the DLC.

To be fair, there are many reasons why people may decide not to buy this, including the price level, but the last time £34.99 was the RRP for a full price game on the Playstation, the PS4 hadn't even been released. The normal PS4 full price at release has been £50 OR £55 for the lifetime of the PS4, except for Remasters, which is why I hardly ever buy a game new on PS4 as I consider that too expensive personally.

This pricing seems to equate more towards the £30 that was the release price for Rockstar's recent remaster of LA Noire.

Lets wait for the Reviews to come in, I still have it on my PS3 but that is collecting dust

This is absolutely a market test for the Burnout franchise, as EA never remaster.

If you want a NEW Burnout in the future, you might want to get this.

I'm surprised they didn't add any brand new content to this, like a few extra cars or some additional functionality just to justify the high price for a 10 year old game.

I never owned Paradise, I played the demo at the time and felt it was pretty good, especially the damage model but I bought Midnight Club LA instead which came out on a few months later. It had licenced cars, great graphics, a 'real' open world and pedestrians which made it feel more alive.

$40 for a remastered version doesn't seem to bad to be honest. I don't know if it's gone down since then but the last time I checked, the full bundle with all DLC was about $30.

True...:dunce: I have both the PC and PS3 versions but I played the PS3 version way more (and bought a good chunk of its DLC), so I kind of forgot how PC did not receive all DLC. Oops.
Of course, there is a less-than-official method to patch a fair amount of it in, along with other stuff Criterion never intended to be a feature, but the Cops & Robbers gamemode is still unavailable last I've heard, as well as Big Surf lacking quite a bit of polish to the point where offline events still aren't a thing for it in there. Also the latest version isn't beta 9, and is instead beta 10 from what I can tell

So here's a bit of positive news for everyone I haven't seen brought up yet: Apparently, EA aren't going to EA-it-up with this one.

Or, if you find clicking links difficult, have it straight from the horse's mouth:

This is quite the stab in the dark (i.e. advanced sarcasm), but I'm *guessing* at least some parts of the EA machine have realised that everything EA did in 2017 was a mistake, that being a lying, two-faced snake about whether or not the Lootboxfront II microtransactions would have "a material impact" and how having a game that's "an apology" for a previous entry be even greedier served nothing but to lower peoples opinions of the company and that you can't - in the words of Jim Sterling - "have your cake and 🤬 it at the same time".

Being a fan of Criterion, I found it funny they saying that "this is the intended version to play" without the content that was planned but not released for the game, such as tunnels (they wanted this to make roaming easier) and making the DeLorean inspired car what was intended to be, a time travel device.

Planes and boats I think it would be fun, but if they made it feel like Burnout. When I saw Bikes update for the first time, I was expecting something like Road Rash because of the car combat that the franchise is known for (but with expected toned down violence, they never intended the game to be gory), not boring time trials (I play time trials on racing games often and I find the time trials for bikes very boring, they just expanded a portion of the game no one wanted, because it already had a lot of time trials to unlock alternate car versions)

Would have definitely been a very different Burnout Paradise than what we have.

Also, for some reason the wiki page that's been linked in the above post has random Russian

Free Updates
Astire (1.1)
Бернаут Парадайс это первое обновление включены исправления.
[It seems to be a broken translation of a message similar to the one after it, except "first" instead of "second"]
Bogart (1.2)
Burnout Paradise's second update included various bug fixes.
And when I say broken, I mean that the literal translation is
"Burnout Paradise is first update turned-on fixes"
The Burnout Paradise part itself isn't so much a translation as much as it is Runglish that's used for Russian translation when talking about game titles.
And the "turned-on" word would have been valid as "included" if there was "в котором были" before the word, which is "In which there were" in English, but in English it can be substitued with just "which"
And the "is" in the translation is just wrong.

Even if there were MT’s in Paradise Remastered, I don’t see what they could even be used for

There’s no in game money system, all cars are unlocked through gameplay and there’s no performance or visual customisation outside of paint jobs.

Probably the best racer on the PS3. Had loads of fun trying to get people to do all the Freeburn Challenges back in the day. I would be all over this just for the nostalgia factor alone and an excuse to replay the game again. But at full price that's a bit hard to justify. If they have a discount offer for those who Platinumed the old game maybe, otherwise I think I might pass. For those who did not get to experience the original though, I wholeheartedly recommend it 👍

Now, it's time for a remake of Ridge Racer Type 4.

One can dream...

It seems that the original release on PC has better graphics than the consoles? I saw the trailer and could not point out the difference, then i saw the comparison photos and i'm baffled.

Though i still prefer the original one.

RR Type 4 soundtrack has something magic for me.

I know it's wishful thinking but I hope they use the remaster as an opportunity to maybe rebalance the game a bit better, or at least let people ban certain cars from races or lobbies (*cough* GT Nighthawk *cough*). It would also be cool to see more than 8 players in one lobby, but considering all the freeburn challenges are designed for up to 8 players I doubt that'll happen.

You know, I never thought about using a wheel with this. I dunno if it would be a great game lots of open places to drive about etc or if I'd be knackered from drifting everywhere.

You just set the rotation up lesser so you don't have to turn so much. From memory on ps3 the default setting was fine. Only thing was if you hit a wall there was no feedback etc. This was my t300rs in ps3 mode.

When I watched the trailer in 4K, it made all the difference to me, looked fantastic.
