Burnouts?

Not that it's nessecary-no don't bring in the skidmarks arguement-but isn't it strange there are no burnouts? I know it's basically useless, but it's pretty nice to do a burnout start, and not have just the engine revving like you have the e-brake on. And since PD is bringing in NASCAR...:dopey:
What do you think?

Only if they make it extremely realistic, not just holding the brake and accelerator like some games make it...

You're right, it's a minor detail, but if they do drag racing, this could potentially important if they get it right. Getting those tires hot should give better track times... if they do it right. I'm just going neutral on this topic.

This is something that should have been done a long time ago. For example, in a FWD car if you hold the e-brake and the gas your front wheels should keep moving (whether the car moves or not), but they don't in GT. Very silly.

because in GT the e-brake disengages the clutch

It's been harder and harder to burnouts in GT. For example, GT3 was VERY easy to get a car to do a standing burnout with 0km/h on the speedo, so you would be chewing the rubber something chronic, regardless of the parts you put on and how much brake pedal you applied, you could stomp on the brakes and have NO trouble whatsoever.

GT4 required a lot more finesse and a defined setup to be able to do a burnout. For example, if you fit racing brakes, you will find it next to impossible to do a burnout, but if you have normal brakes you could do a burnout but the car would still be travelling at 3 or 4km/h which is pretty realistic for a normal burnout as it would just creep forward slowly (if you watch any real life burnout competition you will find that most of the cars do creep forward!).

This also required you to be very precise with the amount of brake you applied (similar to having throttle control) as the more brake you applied, the more the revs would drop, so about 5-10% brake application would allow the burnout to occur. 👍 As for the e-brake, that only worked on the rear wheels so in an FF car, you could have it on which would lock up the rear wheels and all it took was heaps of throttle and you had instant FF burnout at 0km/h! :mischievous: You could also just have it bounce off the limiter, take off, then apply the e-brake and continue wheelspinning and have yourself doing a 250km/h burnout in an FF car! :odd:

GT5 will have a similar result, it's just going to be a case of working out HOW to do it properly.

Uhhh, you can do burnout in GT5 prologue and GT5 TT demo. Just engage the clutch to make a burnout, but instead of smashing the break, gently press on the break and don't let the RPM go down or you'll just stay idle. I did it with ford mustang in GT5p and 370z tuned in GT5 TT demo. It's very easy to do if you get used to it.

So, basically the same way as GT4. Cool, I'm going to rip some Ferrari tyres off when I get GT5. 👍

I'm gonna see if I can find a video of this. Then I'll try it.💡

EDIT:
Found one.

But the smoke remains terrible, no drama or realism put into it.

I think you would need skid marks if burnouts were to be included but im not to bothered if either is included, ill be too busy racing!

I have had lots of fun with burnouts and such, but messing with the brake balance will help a lot too for RWD cars. And locked to the left, but the car goes right always made me mad.

Well, you can execute a burnout in GT5 TT demo more realistically. You need timing just like what you do in GT5p, but more easier.

There will be no improved burnout physics from the TT demo, there will be no improved smoke physics from prologue. I'm pretty confident of this.

And there will certainly be no burnout competitions, skidmarks are also very unlikely.

I'm just being real here, you have to look at the way Kaz thinks, he cares not a jot for things that cars happen to have/do...other than the driving dynamics.

Oh come off it! Like your really going to buy GT5 just so you can do donuts like a crackhead with his m3 in the tesco's car park for one hour! Lol, some people make it out as if they'll refuse to buy the game because of the smallest things, get a grip guys.

^ I agreed on this. It would be nice, but it really isn't a must be feature.

While there might not be skidmarks, I'm almost certain that the "smoke physics" have been improved. Just look at the teaser trailer when it shows WRC. The smoke looks pretty good in my opinion...and there also was a recent video --not sure of the link, but it is in the forums somewhere-- where the smoke (which also looked very good) was parted by another car. Hopefully they weren't CGI....
