But what do we think about it?

How long will this game be the main racer to play on ps4?

  • Idk i give it a couple of months

  • The gameplay is good so it will last a year or two

  • This game will only grow and will last until the next release

  • It sucks, after the release hype it will die off

I bought the game 3 days ago and to be honest, i'm hooked. Love the look, love the sound and I think that the online gameplay is excecuted perfectly. The only worry I have is: how long is the love gonna last? There is so little to do besides the daily races and with only 15 tracks and cars that all play alike, I don't see this game lasting long... Any thoughts?

In GT5, which sold 6 million units in the first 30 days I believe, the early TT's attracted 100-150k participants. Later on it was < 100k. Hardcore users appear to remain long term but are a small % of the player base. Most casual users appear to bounce in and out and play mostly offline it seems, given the low TT participation rates. How that will play out with this new direction in the franchise and no offline career is anyone's guess.

Depends what they do with Sport mode. If it remains largely as it is then I fear for the game. If they introduce more variety, more events, some league system or night long knockouts tournaments then it could last a long time, at least for the competitive amongst us. On another forum I frequent where most people are just gamers rather than racing game fans, 90% of the people have already returned the game.

Omg this game is awesome , i am buzzing from my last race , i qualified 9th thought wtf this is gonna be a stinker and i battled my heart out against someone from Spain who just pipped me on the last corner and i came 7th . I have never felt so happy before to come 7th ! Seriously this game is fecking awesome !
Physics is ok , tyre model is a bit dodgy but everyone is on a level playing field and the Sport mode is honestly something else . Trust me , 7th in a race is like winning a world cup when it's that hard fought . And to the Spanish guy i was racing against who beat me on the last corner , fair play you deserved it , i was defending big time and driving defensive i honestly dont know how he got round me , i wanna give him a hug !

Edit Here's me assuming it was a guy could've been a girl ! Whoever it was , well done .

GameFAQs?

I think people that love a challenge and competition in auto-racing will keep this alive for a long time. Even with the current limits there is a lot to enjoy against other racers. It has a good feel, there is real tension or pressure in races.
The racing is real close and tense in sport mode it's alot of fun , racing will always have incidents . The beauty of this game is you can wait 5 mins and you have a new car and can try all over again !

I get this feeling that player Base is going to have a huge drop after a month at most. It's not because it's a bad game but people aren't a fan of this non traditional game.
It's a new direction for PD , i hope your wrong cos i enjoy the racing . We'll see i suppose but i'm not gonna follow a forum concensus , i'm gonna play this game its a ton of fun .

As long as PD has a good plan for future updates I can see GTS as a long term investment for many people. And that includes myself.

Definitely needs to have different online track updates more frequently than once a week.

While I understand why you would want that. I love that it is only once a week. I am trying some new things for me in Gran Turismo, trying some league races. Gives me plenty of time to do some stuff in Sport mode and also have time for the other online parts in lobbies.

This game is the only PS racing game with intent and porpoises. The reduction of cars to me is a 'let's do this right' approach rather than piling 1000+ cars of which I really only used a handful.
Campaign mode was, to me generic and boring in previous editions, now the boring farm credits sim is gone,we can race. Which is what 6 needed IMO, players racing each other, not running that crazy red bull into the rails, rubber band controller, watch YouTube

First day feelings are nearly excellent!
GTS hooks almost like earlier GT games, if PD quickly pushes out more content we're all doomed.
(Minimal fixes and bit more, not any kind of game breaker bugs. FFB could do better..)

I agree, the matching system seems to be getting enough data now that for the most part the on line races are pretty good. The average gamer that is not really a serious racing fan will probably not stay around long. That does have the advantage that it will take some of the racers that would just as soon knock you out of the way to win out of the racer pool.

The main possible disadvantage is that will that leave enough of the type of racers that are serious enough to frequent forums such as this one left to where the game will get long term support and more DLC and online events to participate in from PD?

I like what I see initially and I have had no problem finding off line things to do as well, The game has real potential.

First time in a race with you I think!

Personally unless PD make changes to the number of events and add cars and tracks via DLC quickly I have my doubts about the numbers long term.

Aside from the matchmaking (which every racing title should have) it's not doing anything that other titles are not doing already.

Titles which have more car variety, bigger track lists and more robust physics.

The FIA championship could help turn that around, but the calendar needs to be packed to do that, and the current degree of rotation and number of Sport events needs to be increased.

For all the cries of its for 'racers', these are seven minute races on average! That's far too short for any form of race tactics, tyre wear, fuel, put stops, etc to come into play.

Honestly people were running better league races on GT5 and 6 than Sport currently offers.

It needs more variety, better BoP, an improvement of the penalty system and much more content.

With that it's got a good chance, without that it will be the same people who raced leagues on GT6, and I'm not convinced that's enough for the investment the FIA and Sony have put in.

I would by the way actually love to be proven wrong on this.
