Buying your own car in GT4

Since buying this game a few months ago I have become obsessed with buying my own car. In real life I own a '98 MGF VVC which is identical to the MGF '97 in the game.

Finally last night I found one for sale second hand in the right colour. It cost me about 25,000 credits and has done 36,000 miles (my own cost me £3200 and has done 40,000 miles, not sure of the credits to £ exchange rate!...).

Another car I have in GT4 which I used to own in real life is the Mk1 Golf GTi in black.

Has anyone else bought their own car and if yes, what is it?

Here's a picture of mine if you're interested:

It can sometimes be frustrating that your car is unlikely to be there since all the cars are top of the range models, either that or i've just got **** cars!

I own mine.

I've never had my own car that is also in the game :( :( :( But I wanna ask you something. It just so happens I was driving an MGF last nite in GT4...how does the engine/exhaust sound compare from car to game?

Not to mention the crappy handling? Surely the real car can't be as bad as the Hong Kong license test...

I bought a used copy of GT2, long after I completed GT3, specifically so I could buy one of my previous cars (white Neon ACR sedan).

Nothing I had in was in GT3.

In GT4 I've got the BMW 320i Touring Car, which is as close as I can get to my 325i sedan. I also have a variety of Euro Accord Type Rs, which is as close as I can get to my wife's Acura TSX (pretty close, actually). Unfortunately it's not available in Meteor Silver (though the S2000 is available in that color) so I had to settle for regular silver.

.

I doubt the real car is shod on cheap tires and burdened with tons of TCS, tho!

The closest thing to my car in GT4 is the '95 Integra Type-R, in Vogue Silver Metallic. Mine is a '95 Integra LS, in Vogue Silver Metallic.

I have a red MR2 AW11 and the sound is way off in GT4. Stock and tuned. 👎 The handling isn't that crappy IRL compared to GT4. It handled almost exactly as it did in GT2, but the chassis needs stiffening pronto. :scared:

my current car is a 2005 acura rsx type s, but, the 2003 model in gt4 is the original body style (different front and rear bumpers, side skirts and slightly longer stock gearing). close enough ;)

In answer to some of the above questions:

It's very difficult to compare the sound. A TV speaker in front of you sounds very different to an engine and exhaust note behind your head. Mine is currently on a standard exhaust but sports exhaust to come once I can save a bit of money.

I've found the handling of the MGF on the road to be very good. It's nicely balanced, has loads of grip (unlike the Hong Kong licence test!) and goes where you point it. Pushed really hard it tends to understeer a bit but that might be down to my front tyres being slightly older and more worn than my rear tyres at the moment. It's not as much fun as my 1979 MG Midget though which slides everywhere on skinny tyres (although the F is obviously considerably quicker). Power isn't everything....

I like the handling of the MGF in the game, with no tuning updates and with Sports Medium tyres it slides very nicely and is easy to control.

Interesting to read about the comparison between the game's rendition of the MGF and the experiences of a real-life driver - but I knew as soon as I went near that licence test that something was wrong

Somehow I doubt any game, ever, will include a 1995 Ford Mondeo 2.0i-Zetec 4WD Ghia saloon, though. :(

None of the cars I've ever owned have been available in any of the GTs I've owned, but I would buy the GTV if it ever came out. Closest equivalents are the Alfa Duetto Spider (smaller engine) and the old GTA (vaguely similar handling), but both share little in common with the Alfetta I had except the engine is similar. In fact, the closest I've ever found on a computer game is the SZ in Enthusia, but that has a V6, and coil springs on the front suspension... and much bigger tyres.... and ten years of development etc etc.

On the handling note, I have driven a few miles in the Kamm tail Spiders, which mechanically and dynamically are supposed to be similar to the Duetto in the game. I find it difficult to relate the virtual ones to the real ones though. Apart from the game ones being less oversteery than the real thing, I just think that the gulf between reality and virtual reality is still to big to make any comparion on how a car feels.

Well I guess it's a good thing, but the game does not have my car....
Yeah, I'd pit my rusted out '91 Ford Explorer (with a whopping V-6) against the GT-one anday. lol

No chance of me getting my truck. I guess the Colorado wasn't cool enough to make the game.

You got the 5-cylinder engine?

That's good to know. I used to work with this guy (back in the 80's) who bought an MR2 back when it was a brand-new model line. :) I never got to drive it, though. At the time, of course, i had my '67 Mustang. :D

Well like I said, PD ruined the MGF by putting it on "comfort" tires (the real-life equivalent to cheap all-seasons imo) and then cranking up the TCS, so that every turn you take gets the car crawling & sliding at the same time :yuck:

Yes I do. First year of production 3.5L I-5. A couple years after they bumped it to 3.7. Never had any problems with it aside from the odd looks I get when I say its an I-5. Then they say." Don't you mean 6?" to which I usually laugh.

Going back on topic. I think that the only car that I have been able to buy in the game that I have owned was in GT2. I use to have a 2001 Mustang GT. I think that was available in GT2 . . . At least the body style was available.

I use to have a 2000 Camaro Z28 too. Same front clip as the SS in GT4.

This is a ringer, not a production truck, I think the fastest anyone has went in a stock production truck is like 13.2 or 13.3 at about 100. The best I’ve done is 13.6 at 98. This truck has a different chip, and maybe a torque converter and turbo. But I can’t imagine the weight being much different. It is listed at 3526 lbs. quan lot nam dep do ngu cao cap do dung cho me vay lien cong so quan ao ban buon cho thue trang phuc

The closest thing to my Accord is the H22 Euro R version.

Now, they had my EG Civic Hatch in white but I had a different engine (a crappier one :P).

Oh dont even get me started...

I remember that I kept telling myself, I'm going to get this or that.. which was influenced from playing GT4, specifically drifting..

at one point, i was obbsessed with the NSX '04. Watched a video of some guy comparing GT4 NSX - Laguna seca and driving an actual NSX on laguna.. he said the car was loud, and certainly, a sports car is not well sound insulated so it'd be a noisy ride, so i scratcehd that off my list.

Next was a AM DB9, Man I was in love with the car..its an FR, it drifts great.. looks great, would be extremely rare in Canada, but its like so gas consuming, and costs like 118k, there's no way i can afford it, plus im against high powered engines..

S2000? a bit more reasonable, a sports car yes, i can easily buy it here in canada, but the thing is about half the price of the db9, according to the International Autoshow carguide book. but it consumes like 12.6 L/100km (city) and about 9-10 on highway.. still too high for me...

Best choice so far: Lotus Elise 111R, RWD and is super light so it'll definitely be loud and would definitely not be able to drive in the winter. it's small, i like :), easy parallel parking.. rare in canada, about $90k, not too bad, as well it's a 1.8 Litre Toyota engine, so it doesn't consume as much as the rest i stated above...but i love its design and its reputation for nimble steering.

if GT4 had them, i'd probably try out the BMW M6 or Z9.. i Love the look, it can be bought at dealership here.. only flaw is that it'll consume a lot of gas and it sounds like a muscle car ( which i dont like)

Jeremy Clarkson?

The closest thing to my car would be the 2002 Turbo sans fuel injection turbocharger, fender flares, and beefier brakes. :ouch:

The overblown version of my grocery-getter, a 96 Outback, (96 Legacy Touring Wagon), is a surprisingly good car... but unfortunately PD decided to pull my "real" car (Subaru SVX) after GT2... not cool!

Yeah, my sister has an Outback...I'm forgetting which year...but damn, I love driving that car! Even at 80,000 miles, it still feels tight and handles great. 👍

Agreed on the SVX! 👎 The SVX was my first all-wheel drive in GT1! :D

Yeah, I've got no complaints with the Outback... well except for the head gasket job around 125K miles... but those are expected from the EJ25 motor. The SVX is a different story... LOVE the car to death but it's as overengineered as a Mercedes (read: complicated and heavy), and if all goes according to the normal SVX lifespan, I'll be due for a transmission rebuild relatively soon. Good excuse for an STI 6-speed swap though! Now to scrape up 4 grand to pull that off... lol If you ever get a chance to drive an SVX though, take it. BRUTAL cars above 35 mph... 3.545 gearing and too much heft cause it some headaches in the low end but otherwise great. The windows are fantastic too. Thought I wouldn't like them at first, but once you've had your first conversation at normal volume while cruising at 90 on the interstate, windows down, you'll be in love. Add to that a motor so strong that it's used in light experimental aircraft builds and you have yourself one hell of an underappreciated car.

I bought a White AE86. the game's very accurate.

I have recently bought two AE86s in real life. One is in primer coat, but it will be white when i restore it. The other one is red, but i'm just using it for parts, i'll sell the rolling shell when i'm finished.

I have built a GT4 version of how my car will be when it's restored and it is heaps of fun to drive. :)
