Buying your own car in GT4

I have a 79' Buick Regal Sport (5.0L V-8 4bbl carb) and in the game I bought a GNX. The way the suspension is feels very real, especially the way it pitches up hard under acceleration and dives under braking. Also when you toss it into a corner it leans over quite a bit.

They slide much the same (Regal needs some water underneath it though, being down on power to the GNX. About 180 VS. 276.) Except my Buick is easier, being as it has a pedal instead of a button.

Oh yes..you got that right. GM cars don't hold up well with age, hopefully yours isn't as crappy as the ones I occasionally see in my shop (I work on cars r/l).

Yeah, I've got no complaints with the Outback... well except for the head gasket job around 125K miles... but those are expected from the EJ25 motor. The SVX is a different story... LOVE the car to death but it's as overengineered as a Mercedes (read: complicated and heavy), and if all goes according to the normal SVX lifespan, I'll be due for a transmission rebuild relatively soon. Good excuse for an STI 6-speed swap though! Now to scrape up 4 grand to pull that off... lol If you ever get a chance to drive an SVX though, take it. BRUTAL cars above 35 mph... 3.545 gearing and too much heft cause it some headaches in the low end but otherwise great. The windows are fantastic too. Thought I wouldn't like them at first, but once you've had your first conversation at normal volume while cruising at 90 on the interstate, windows down, you'll be in love. Add to that a motor so strong that it's used in light experimental aircraft builds and you have yourself one hell of an underappreciated car.

That's what I noticed; especially in GT1 (not so much in 2). You punch the throttle on an SVX and it bogs down big-time. :ouch: Good to know the real-life version is the same way.

The SVX was one of my first GT cars that I bought a full-custom transmission for while the rest of the car was otherwise pretty stock, specifically to get a better first gear so the SVX woudn't bog down. I also agree with you on the "overengineered" comment. Hell, I wrote about the SVX awhile back...here ya go...

Your performance figures hold relatively true to real life too... PD had it down pat even early apparently. The best 0-60 unofficially recorded is somewhere in the vicinity of a 6.9 if I remember correctly, but realistic times in the owners' club run in the 7.7-8.0 range (we're down to 4.55 with a roots-type blower pushing 10 or 12 lbs of boost... turbo projects continue to grow and last i checked, stronger and more balanced motor internals allowing more boost were in the process of fabrication for a group-buy). The best verifiable stock quarter mile we've seen is ~15.7 at 91mph driven by someone with a LOT of experience in the ethereal art of the AWD burnout, but a hair above 16 at 89mph is right on the nose for most, with stock gearing. WRX 5 speed swaps, STI 6-Speed swaps, and crazed frankenstein-esque 4.11 and 4.44 donor gearing from automatic legacies and imprezas can improve that in real life if you can pony up the bucks, or have a really comprehensive home garage. I'm struggling with both right now :ouch:

(Not my RUF photo, had to use Google to find a GT4 photo of a blue one! :guilty:)

are about as close as I can get to:

my current car is a 2005 acura rsx type s, but, the 2003 model in gt4 is the original body style (different front and rear bumpers, side skirts and slightly longer stock gearing). close enough ;)

I noticed they did that with the nsx too its all the original style but they got rid of the pop-up headlights in '97 and changed the body a little but its only nsx in the '00 that have the non pop-up headlights in the game

I doubt they would put my '93 dodge dakota 4x4 in the game, but i rolled it so i guess i dont drive it around on the roads. It rocks for off roading in though

ya I buy supras all the time because thats what I own. I have one in every color all full tuned. Thats part of what makes gran turismo so fun you can be a dork and buy your own car and play with it.

Although I own all the cars mentioned below I never realized how many they were - anything from exact match to really stretching it:

My car: '02 MINI Cooper S - same in game
Wife's: '06 Audi A6 3.2 - '02 RS6
Daughter's: '97 Neon - '03 SRT-4
Inherited from my Dad: '04 BMW Z-4 3.0 - '03 in game
Son's previous car: '95 Mustang GT 5.0 - '05 Mustang GT
Son's previous previous car: '95 Taurus SHO - '98 in game
Mom's first economy car thirty years ago: '74 VW Rabbit - '76 Golf GTI
My second car thirty years ago: '74 TVR 2500M - '91 TVR V8S (they at least look similar)
A chapter best forgotten: '85 Renault Le Car - '80 Renault 5 Turbo (yeah, I know they are completely different animals; but they do share a body shell)
I also used to own a '65 Austin Cooper S which I think is available in some version of the game other than NTSC

I have a '91 (2nd gen) RX-7 in real life, and about 10-15 2nd gen rx7's in GT4 with various colors, wheels, and modifications. I tend to keep buying them whenever one pops up in the used car lot. The rx-7s in GT4 are J-spec, so they are turbo, while mine is not. But, if I turn down the horsepower in arcade mode to about 160 (same as an '89-91 non-turbo), it drives much like my real one.

i bought my stepdads 2003 ford lightning and noticed that PD really got it right on the lightning but my stepdads has 400 hp. i had to mod the exhaust and the air filter to really get the feel of the extra 15hp out of it. i drove it here recently and i learned a very VERY important lesson, gt4 physics and that.... animal are two totally different things

To bad Volvo 740 Turbo isnt in the game, it would be a pretty fun car in the game though. So the volvo 240 is the closest i can get. But damn that car is heavy and clumsy in the game. :P

I own a Silver 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S and own several silver 1999 Celica SS-II(same exact car as 2000 GT-S). I have the TRD Exhaust on it, TRD Sportivo Shocks, Springs, sway bars, and the bigger 16" rims. Basically put the sport exhaust, sport suspension (drop it all the way), and racing tires (so the rims get bigger). That pretty much is my car in this game. It doesn't sound the same though. I don't notice the whining noise in real life. Also they didn't really get the whole lift thing to work right, at least by my opinion. It just doesn't hit hard enough. It just feels like the powerband is too smoothed out. Oh well, that's just me being nitpicky.

As a late-comer to the game, I'll revive this old thread to report that i was very excited to see my car for sale-color and all-in GT4

My car is a 2003 Mini Cooper R50 (base model) in a rare one-year color, Velvet Red with white roof, mirrors, and wheels. Although it's listed in the game as 2002 (my '03 was built for US market 11/2002).

I can say without hesitation, the real thing is inconceivably more fun to drive than the pixelated version in the GT worlds. (less purple in real life too).

👍
