Why has nobody answered this question yet!? What does the Downforce Wing glitch thing do the Pescarolos?

It is a hybrid... meaning it can have two kinds of downforce?

Good Lord... that is the stupidest thing i've ever seen said in reference to downforce, there is only one type of downforce but hundreds of ways in which you can generate it but this would never constitute towards the name 'hybrid'.

Why it's called the Hybrid
It's because due to regulation changes in 05, team's and manufacturers were allowed a 3 year transitional period, doing whats known as 'grandfathering' old cars to comply to new regulations becoming 'hybrids' as they were hybrids of the two regulation sets. Pescarolo did this very cleverly and took advantage of loopholes to create a car which was quicker than the Champion Racing and Oreca Audi R8's during that year.

As for the aero parts in the game, judging by the cars which it works on it may possibly be a representation of the aero updates both cars had over the season, remember, both cars are in their 'Le Mans trim' in the game.

Add another car to that list: Audi R8 Race Car Team Oreca. I just purchased this in the UCD and it is also possible to install a 200,000 credit wing on this car.

Just tested it and the wings do add more downforce, same as adding a wing to a normal car. The front downforce stays the same (no surprise there), but the rear goes from 50 min - 80 default - 85 max, to 55 min - 95 default - 105 max.

The increased downforce didn't seem to make much difference on top speed or handling though. However, I only tested it out on Like The Wind, so it was hardly a long or scientific test :P

Yup, I just did the same (I'm bored). All three of the "option" wings raise the rear downforce to 105. Also, in my unscientific testing, they all cost me around a half second or more on Indy: Like the Wind.

Here's my results (nothing else was changed - just max downforce on each wing)

Standard Wing Max Downforce = 95 Best Lap = 42.467
Option A Wing Max Downforce = 105 Best Lap = 42.865
Option B Wing Max Downforce = 105 Best Lap = 42.767
Option C Wing Max Downforce = 105 Best Lap = 43.201

No other changes were made to the car at all, and the performance of the engine didn't seem to diminish (1047hp in all cases).

Every one of the "Option" wings just seemed to make the front end wash out more, especially in Turn One, where I was completely unable to go through the turn without smacking the wall on exit, unless I lifted going into the turn. With the original wing, I could hold full throttle all the way around the lap.

I'm all for more downforce, but it needs to be balanced front-to-rear.

On another course where the rear of the car might get more squirrelly, the added downforce could be a welcome addition. On Indy, though, it hurt the lap times instead of helping them.

Again, this was just a quick test with no changes at all except for the rear wings. No attempts were made to optimize the tune for each car or each wing, just slap 'em on, max the downforce, and see what they could do. If you're looking for faster lap times at Indy, it's not going to be this easy. :)

Welcome to Sarcasm, you tool. :ouch:

The ORECA Audi and Pescarolo raced in the same year in the LMS (Le Mans Series), and I know that attempt were made to slow the R8 and equal it to other LMP cars. Maybe they actually are different aero packages in real life? It would make sense...

Cough cough... my theory

Absolutely, I agree with your point, I do believe the cars configuration featured in the game is the configuration that was run at Le Mans, so it makes perfect sense that the upgrade is to replicate what the real life counterpart got over the course of the season, the only way we could confirm this is if someone uploaded high res shots of the wings of the car from multiple angles with and without the wing to see if their is a visible difference.

I suspect it may be something like a different wing plane which is deeper or a gurney flap.
