I don't think it looks very similar to the Dino at all :P

The Dino is properly beautiful for one thing, in my opinion. It would be the top of my list of best looking Ferraris (even though it was never actually badged as a Ferrari...)

smartypants...lol:sly:

spyrrari.
hehe... :sly:
I wholeheartedly agree. What strikes me about the California is just how controllable it is. It's one of the most nimble cars I've ever driven, almost Lotus-like. And it's so easy to get in a drift. I adore this car.:)
Agreed 👍
its the first ferrari with a dubble clutch....we will see this new clutch system move to all other ferraris soon...its superfast!!!:)👍

spyrrari.
Didn't know... that's probably why it drives so smooth:tup:

I think what I meant by 'resemble' is 'remind'... sorry about the poor choice of words..:sly:

Its funny because this new model seems to have more in common with the Dino than the original California... in terms of what its aiming to achieve and also its price point.

Its certainly my favourite out of the 3 new cars; the backend isn't the greatest admitedly, but it handles well and i think is actually faster around a track that the f430! The lotus could be good, if those gears weren't so sluggish, i was expecting it to be a lot more explosive than it is.

F50 for the next update PD :sly:

Not a fan of the California's looks, reminds me of a overpriced MX-5 Miata. The handling is also taking a bit to get used to, I believe PD wanted a Ferrari to drift with.

I don't like it, it's a very loose car. Brake in a straight line, turn in and the rear slides out. Either there is too much front bite or there is a pathetic rear suspension set up, for me.

It feels like it is a rear engined car, not a mid, and definitely not a front engined config.

Massive tuning should not be required to make the car drive "normally" on R3 tires at HSR.

The physics feels like it is catering to drifters now.

I really like to drive the 3 Laps Suzuka Ferrari Dealer race with the California. Easy to drift around the corners :)

Yes today i tested this car and its a great car! handles very funny! but a bit too much oversteer... got nice races @suzuka early before...

Yeah runs real good at Suzuka also I like the look of the front grill reminds me of a Jaguar and the 2000 Chrysler Concorde.

Yesterday i was saveing up for the gt by citoren but after reading this i bought the Ferrari. I am very happy with it but it's hard to drive fast using the sixaxis

I dont mind the looks ,it handles very well
its nice to see a real convertible in the game
my only downside was no clutch...
so to me that really ruins it as a drift car but as a racer its nice.

Hmmm... there's something not quite right about the Cali - if this car is as good in reality as it is in the game, the motoring press is going to cream itself and call it a motoring God.

Firstly, it's just too fast in a straight line - unlikely it's going to be as quick as the F430 seeing as it weighs more and has similar power... even if it is a bit quicker due to the faster change up times, it certainly won't be THAT much quicker.

Secondly, it just doesn't handle right for a front engined/rear wheel drive car... it feels just like it's mid engined. The way the nose tucks in when you come off the gas is classic MR behavior.... FR car's just don't handle like this in real life, even when the engine is situated well behind the front axle line.

Don't get me wrong, it's superb to drive in the game - feeling like a MR it would be :) - but I very much doubt a California will be anywhere near as quick as a 430 round a circuit, yet for me, the Cali is around a second a lap quicker than the 430 round Suzuka in the 650PP event.

Discuss.

handling-wise it´s a fun car to drive. the looks....not so good; i don´t want to say ugly as hell but i´m with the interceptor here. i think they want to please the american market (hence the name).

Well if they are, they aren't doing a good job. We don't like the looks of it anymore over here than anywhere else in the world.

It's been mentioned that not very much splits the two cars on Time Trial leaderboards.

Could it be that it's easier to get the most out of the California, or, easier to get to say 90% of its ability, whereas the F430 takes more finesse to get to similar levels?

Thus more people can get 90% from the California, whereas most eek out say 70% from the F430?

Just a thought, I've found the California pretty forgiving to drive, but I haven't driven the F430 much since the update to make any real comparisons.

Before we start saying that the Cali is too fast for its spec lets remember the GT-R. It should be nowhere near as fast as it is. But for some reason it seems to break the laws of physics in real life. Lets wait to see Top Gear put it around their track before we start judging the potential of the car.

The gt-r may be heavy, but has perfect gear ratios and loads of computers etc making it a fast track car.

Brief History Check;

The California is actually a 'rebirth' I would like to say of the 1961 250 California Spyder made popular in the movie 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'

...with that said, I've always wanted to drive the 1961 version of the California in real life, but since I heard a remake was coming out and especially for GT5, was damn excited that at least I can virtually drive the new version of my dream car.

Pretty much my views on it are like everyone elses, the looks are of a simpler Ferrari, nothing too complex like the 599 & 430, it actually looks like what its 1961 version was made for...Top down Sunday driving. Although can't really do that in GT, driving it around Suzuka and Daytona, it's a machine to take around the track and just drift it for fun. The Tail is loose in the corners but not too bad, I have to agree with its really good handling. To make it really look like a track machine, I wished they put the coupe trim along with the update but its just as good.

GT-R doesn't break or bend physics.. it just applies them efficiently. :D :sly:

The 599 has a fair few computers working at slinging you around the track as fast as possible, so I'd suspect the California is equally crammed with 'aids', especially if it's tailored towards the less dedicated driver, who'd still like to show off every so often...

it's another car with an extremely fast shifter :( it drives very nice though but i think the F430's sound is so much better just because shifting up and down gives the great screaming sound... i love that!! Now the cali has the 0.02 second automatic gearbox just like the GTR does IMO it takes lots of the fun away :(

also during races with slower gearboxes you need to time your shifts a lot better then with a fast gearbox...

Couldn't agree more, I really don't like the sound of ridiculously fast shifting gearboxes.

Maybe GT5 will have the option to specify a manual instead of paddles when you buy the car. After your test drive of course... :)

The car is a complete joke in my books. I don't see a ferrari when I see it. Apart from that though the car does drive well :)

The lamborghini estoque gives me the same impression looking at it.

no matter where i race the california, the top is always down, as opposed to other convertibles (e.g sl55) where the top is up for races, but down for free run.

anybody else notice this, or know why this is the case? I feel like the top should be up for races... from the pictures, it looks better with the top up
