How could General Motors get rid of the greatest pony cars of all time?? I know the Mustang came first but the Camaro's and Firebirds(trans am) knocked the doors right off of them. The only thing I can think of is to get a new camaro ss you can buy a Corvette for almost the same price. which would you buy..a camaro that performs pretty good or a corvette that performs excellent?

The cars are likely to be killed or turned into ff cars or even another Aztek (hurl) because of several reasons.

1. Neither car has a great record of reliability.

2. Horrible advertising.

3. By sales at least, neither car has been able to match the Mustang in sales. Both also came out later than the Mustang and people, I think, tend to prefer the first of things.

4. I like their looks (I much prefer Pontiac's version) but I think a lot of people find them guady.

5. You can buy more practicle cars with better handling for the same price or less. Stick 350, 400 hp in most BMWs and the F-Bodies are beat.

6. The cars have great performance but they're probably viewed as just being drag racers.

7. SUVs.

8.  Dated technology.

9. The rear suspension

10. The opinion that some have that the car should stay to its roots, which I agree with but some progress is needed. Would it really be so bad to do an overhaul? Keeping the car dated won't help.

11. Cars like the Mustang have a broader appeal among the sexes.

The most important factors to consider are that the fanbase for the F-Bodies may not be as the Mustang's when it was in trouble, and, most important of all, GM needs to be kicked in the butt.

Yeah, I think the Camaro/Firebird look remarkably better than the Aztec though.

For one I am a fan of the Aztek. I think its one of the most original looking cars on the road.  And where I'm from there is no show if the  sexes part. As many women drive Camaros/Firebirds as do Mustangs. And as for the reliability part I dont beleave that cause i dont know many people that drive run down Camaro's and Firebirds. I see more junk Mustangs then any of the GMs.

Well, soulpanic, what do you think about the new Chevy Avalanche trucks?

I like them too, but I'm not so sure if I'd want one now that I've seen it.  There's too much plastic or something.

I'm annoyed at that.
The Mustang, Camaro and Firebird are all awesome cars. The one they should get rid of is the crappy Corvette.

  I don't see GM getting rid of the Corvette for a long time.

GM is retarded... the F-body and corvette are the only 2 cars they make that i like... i dont know if they think they can sell crap like the aztec and avalance or what, but i think its pretty dumb of them to drop the mustang's only competition.... it'll probably stop making ford improve the mustang too since they'll have a monopoly.

I keep thinkin GM is up to something by cancelling the Camaro and Firebirds. I'm hoping atleast that they bring them back in a few years better then ever..if thats possable.

As a j-body enthusiast, I keep up with GM.  They are sticking with the SUV's as they are making GM lots of money.  They are phasing out some of the smaller size cars because even though the sell real well, they are all usually sold at some kind of a loss.
I do know that they are getting away from the sport compact market to some degree too.  Cavalier, Sunbird and Sunfire will be replaced with the Astra from Opel.
This car has been produced for many years in Europe.  Its a good seller like the Ford Focus.
Its ashame GM caters to the easy going crowd and not the performance crowd.

DOnt Cry Camaro fans!  Magazines report its return in 2005 as being the 69 Camaro in this  millinium.   I have also head that they are coming back firt hand from a guy who work at a GM dealership(not a salsmen) that they are coming back but its all hush-hush.

Dont know much about the f-body do you? Anway, It probably will, since they have ALWAYS ben built on the same platform.  If it wasn't for chevy, there wouldn't be a Firebird.  Chevy made the car(it satrted as the panther concept, to fight the mustang) and all Pontaic did was just change the body a bit, and call it a different car.

More than you think. For instance I know that it was the preference of Delorean (might have been Earl) to create the Firebird as a challenge to the Corvette but GM wanted to save production costs.

Also there was a Firebird showcar that had a Ferrari engine in it. Owned by some one in either GMC or Pontiac itself.

Sharing a platform does not guarantee anything, though it may be more likely than not that the Firebird will stay with the Camaro.

I simply think that most Firebirds look better than Camaros. From 1970 to 1992 I would give the styling edge to Pontiac's version.

The new motor trend I got yesterday reports of an enthusaists movment in GM of  GM  people who want to revive the CAmaro in 2005.  Not even a concept has been drwan yet, but will either be retro or evolutionary.  Their insider aqlso reports that if the CAmaro does come back, the Firebird will not, instead will be a new GTO, maybe.  If the Camaro doesn't come back they say look for a V8 in a future Monte Carlo, which they could move to GM new Sigma RWD platform.
