Camera position tests

It took me 4 months to model the STi, but that was with a full class load. If I was at it 40 hrs a week as my only project, probably less than 2 months to model. The interior was much quicker to model though because I made my own rally interior. Also, the doors aren't meant to open, so I didn't model the door jams, where PD would have to. Texturing took about 3-4 weeks, but again, doing the STi interior to spec would have taken longer. I can definitely understand the 6 month timeframe for them.

There is no "bumper cam" in GT games. It is a druver's seat view without the car being visible. This was demonstrated last year I believe. There was a car that hut a foam block which ended up on the hood of the car in replay or chase cam. When using first person view the block was suspended in mid air.

Notice other racing games when you use a "bumper cam" it is more like an "ant cam"?

That's the purpose of this thread, to find out where the cameras actually are. What people thought was a bumper cam, isn't really.

Thanks guys. It would be nice if we had an adjustable camera. Live For Speed does that by basically giving you X Y and Z sliders, as well as changing the field of view. If PD did this, with multi-monitor support, it would be very easy to setup a nice wide display.
Seriously, I wish Kaz would give us control of the four cam positions in the Options: where they are, the aim and field of view, and whether dynamic (and how much) or fixed. Even the option to disable some of the positions if you never used them. For instance, I know many of us dearly love cockpit cam, but it's too low, at least for me. Unless you sit leaning back or are very short, the horizon should be close to the height of the rear view mirror on most sports cars or sedans. If I could fix that, I might actually use it. I also wish roof cam was a bit higher, as in GT4. If we could do this, everyone would be happy.

And once again, kudos for your excellent modeling work. 👍

Sorry, i'm Italian and don't speak right english, not I have understood, in gt5, can i have a hood visual in standard cars? ican regulate the visual in option? or only the roof camera? thanks!

The bumper view and cockpit view are the same height to my knowledge. Just minus the cockpit.

then why are all bumper cams the same height? do you think all cars are the same height? Race with the hippy bus on bumper cam, the video we have seen already has shown it's no higher than any other car.

My guess is the so called bumper cam is a fixed height, and the roof cam is what is adjusted based on the size of the vehicle. We'll find out soon enough.

and the cokpit cam also is based on the height of the cars too. That's why I'm positive that bumper cam isn't the "invisible cockpit cam" that some think it is.

Why can't the cockpit cam and the "invisible cockpit cam" be the same height on each vehicle? That is, both views be on the same height on each vehicle, but is different for every car.

For example, the "invisible cockpit cam" and the cockpit cam is 'x' inches off the ground for this vehicle, but the "invisible cockpit cam" and cockpit cam of this other vehicle is 'y' inches off the ground.

The height may be different for different cars, but there's no reason they couldn't be the same height views in the same car. If that makes sense.

The bumper cam has to be bumper height! Do this drive with the bumper cam and get right up behind another car (you can't see anything at all because your bumper cam is right behind their bumper blocking your view. You can also check this by driving the car right up to a wall with "LOGO" then you can tell that the camera is at the bumper. I wish it was where you stated, that way I could see where the road was when I got behind another car.

Dear Falango,
Your 3D modeling skills are what I would like to call masterful. I've read through all your posts but I did not seen anything about what program/programs you are using. IM currently taking an intermediate level AutoCAD class in college right now, but I would love to dip into more 3D modeling.

Thanks G-sep!

I learned with Autodesk Maya, and have been using it for 2 and a half years. I've also learned ZBrush, Mudbox, VRay, and will be learning Mari soon, a fairly new texturing program that was pioneered in Avatar. Feel free to shoot me some PMs if you have more questions about anything.

Hmm, I'll have to look at that again. I was almost certain that based on the photos I used, it would have been accurate.
