Can anybody suggest a good way to get iTunes music to play in GT5?

So I downloaded all this music a couple weeks ago from stupid iTunes onto a USB stick. That in itself was a huge learning experience for me, as I'm not very computer savvy. I had to bother one of kids that works at my shop just to figure iTunes out. Once I figured iTunes out, it got rather addicting looking up songs, downloading them etc. I think I had spent about 40 bucks overall.

Got home and installed it from the USB into my PS3's music folder. All this music plays fine if I just listen to it straight from the music folder.

So I start up my GT5 disc and go into Options > Audio > Personal Music (whatever the path is) and try to get this music playing in my game. It just says "this music is not supported" or something. Upon further research, I'm reading that iTunes is rather strict; somehow they code the music so that it only plays under certain circumstances. I sort of undertand why...it's so the music is paid for, not pirated off onto dozens of computers or iPods or whatever. Problem with this rationale is I paid for it already. The music plays fine on my PS3, not sure why it can't make the jump from music folder to game...

I'm noticing iTunes is formatted via AAC (whatever that means) which the PS3 is supposed to support. Odd thing is, I downloaded several of my regular music CDs into the game and they play fine in the game, whether they're AAC formatted or MP3 or a couple other formats.

So my question What do I have to do to get this music to play in my game? Or is it even possible that this can happen?

It's possible but it will be a little time consuming. Because their ACC format it's hard to covert the protected format to MP3 which GT5 reads easily. The easy but time consuming thing you can do is burn all your music on to a blank CD and then have the PS3 rip the music onto it's HDD as MP3 format. If you can't get a couple of blank CD's try using the PS3 and see if it can covert the music to MP3 from the USB.

So, you could follow a few easy steps - this is a bit similar to what the guy above me suggested but a different approach.

1) Burn a CD in iTunes. Put all the stuff you want on it (up to a maximum of 74 / 80 minutes, of course, depending on the type of the blank cd).

2) Put the CD back into the CD / DVD drive in your computer.

3) Download CDEX - http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/ - it'll create MP3 files from the CD, enabling the PS3 to "read" the music. It's freeware, no worries.

4) Install the software and wait for it to recognize the CD, you have to create the files then. This is done by the buttons on the right side, one of those marked with "MP3" - just hover over the button and read the description. Check out their FAQ should you run into any problems.

5) Wait for it to complete, it should also recognize the song titles etc. as long as iTunes left the information in the songs during the writing process.

6) Copy the MP3 files to your USB stick, they'll be saved somewhere on your computer. You can check the path in the CDEX options or even change it to a path you like more before you start, maybe a folder named "GT5 Music" on your desktop.

7) Plug the stick into your PS3 and copy the files over. You have to create a playlist for GT5 to recognize your music, that's done by selecting all the files in the music folder on your PS3 (once the music has been copied over) and selecting "Create playlist".

8) Start GT5 and open the options, follow the instructions related to "USER BGM" and make sure that the options say "Repeat all" instead of "Repeat song", so that the whole playlist is being played instead of just one song.

Why go that extra step when iTunes writes a CD the ACC file are no longer protected and the PS3 can convert any CD in it's drive to MP3 ACC WAV etc. Just put the cd in there and it's good to go. If your worried about losing song titles have iTunes add the titles to CD.

Because the quality of the PS3 rips are mediocre at times - and I'm not even sure if it's still included in the XMB, to be honest. I've tried it with numerous CDs and the quality was quite horrible anyway.

Have you customized your rip settings? I always rip my CDs on the PS3 at 320kb bitrate and that retain more the enough quality for most human ears. Also because the CD he will be burning is from iTunes the quality won't improve when being burned or ripped from the CD. If your crazy about music quality your better off downloading lossless audio or buying the psychical Album CD/DVD.

My settings are fine - then again, it doesn't only depend on the source but also on the rip itself. The PS3 created some sort of crackling sound and CDEX didn't cause any issues - and no, the CD wasn't copy protected since all the songs were taken from iTunes.

It's not a discussion what's better - we have 2 ways of getting him there, it's up to him to pick the one he likes more.

True question tho I haven't tried this myself but wandering could you use deamon tool to create virtual CD to burn to and then rip it from that? Or ISOs can only be created with it?

Wow, less than half an hour and already 6 7 replies. Thanks all, I'll try some of these suggestions when I get home (at work now). 👍

This is how I did it, very effective for me! (no CDs or USB, needed):

Initial Setup-
-PS3 connected to home router, and PS3 HDD has no music on it
-Windows 7 Computer (Vista probably works the same) connected to home network
-Turn on sharing (will give instructions if this is complicated)

What to do:
-Open Windows Media Player. Please note I've previously never used WMP in my life (always iTunes), and all my music plays fine in it.
-Make a Playlist in WMP of all the music you want to go to GT5
-Leave WMP Open for the time being, computer connected to router, turn on PS3
-On the PS3, go to music. Find your computer's name. Go to playlists, and import entire playlist.
-100 songs only took me about 5 minutes to transfer permanently to the PS3's HDD!
-Once transferred, you can close WMP and you are done with the computer

PLEASE NOTE: Most of my music is also in AAC format, but WMP converts "on the fly" like magic

You could always create an ISO file instead of burning the CD "for real". Then again, I'm not sure if iTunes is supporting that - if in doubt: NERO.

Escudo: that'd mean that he'd have to leave his computer running all the time - not the most economic solution, probably. :}

Plus I don't actually have a real computer at home that isn't being used by other people (I have a couple roomates). It just seems like I should be able to rip the music again somehow in a new format, and re-install it on my PS3, as some of you guys have suggested. It's looking as if this is possible to do. Complicated, but possible.

Yeah the biggest thing is that ACC it's not read by GT5 I'm not sure about WAV but I know MP3's are perfect.

I have a couple CDs, though, that are AAC formatted, and they play fine in the game. It's just the stupid iTunes downloads that were giving me headaches.

I havent tried this yet but u can try loading ur music into ur ps3 using vuze and then see what happens,u can use ur computer as a media server for ur ps3. Again i dont know if itll work,i use my macbook and a couple of speakers to listen to music playing gt,also if u have an iphone u can use it as a remote ctrl and easily choose what songs to play or the vol.of itunes.

welcome to the world of apple. good luck making most of that stuff work.

They have so many songs in their store because they care about copy protection - which is perfectly fine. It isn't only Apple, the music labels are playing a big part there.

Not directly related, but if you're going to buy songs off of iTunes I think they offer a lot (maybe all) of their songs in unprotected mp3 format now. I haven't looked in a while though, so maybe it's different now.

Alternatively Amazone has mp3 (unprotected) downloads on a ton of music as well.

You'll run into less problems this way, and more devices will be able to play your songs without problems. Alternatively, stick to CDs :)

I haven't tried this yet but is it possible to send music thru bluetooth from my iPhone to PS3 I know my wife can play music thru bluetooth on her HTC EVO Shift but I haven't tried it with the iPhone yet.

the internet has every song for free if you know where to look, but if you insist on paying, amazon is a far better choice than apple. but really, anyplace, is a far better choice.

i will have to experiment with the phone thing. i have a htc evo. ive only streamed and transferred music via wireless from my computer. the phone linkup kinda sounds cool, although unneeded in my case.

"free" or free?

well i know what you are saying i guess. you can get them free off youtube like was mentioned and some on amazon. and you can use thepiratebay just like you can use google. so i guess google is a load of crap too. but yes they are "free" in places like that also. hence, why i dont understand why people enjoy being apple fluffers. for the record, i wasnt posting where to find stuff, i just said you can.

i am not figuring out the streaming phone device yet though. any clues deadsnipermatt?

Well I found out with the HTC EVO's you can use Bluetooth to stream music my wife can stream it to my stereo system and connect to PS3 but with my iPhone I can on connect it and the PS3 treats my phone like a BlueTooth headset which is ehh. I'm still trying to see different methods my wides touch is jail-broken and I'm going to see if there are jail-broken apps that can do that.
