I still use hand controller & can not even get bronze in Jeff Gordon NASCAR School [Special Events ]where I have to use the outside line & not hit the cones or wall .
Is it possible ?

I golded all the beginner and intermediate with a controller, took me a while though as it has to be perfect pretty much.
If you have to adjust the analogue stick anywhere in the turn you can pretty much assume you won't gold it, just learn where the stick needs to be, get it there at the turn and keep it there, and hope it's right.
I found the ones on the track without a bank (where you have to brake or at least lift off the throttle) alot easier. For me that came down to finding the point where I can use max throttle coming out of the corner.

I did them in all silver. I might be able to get gold on them if I sat down and tried for hours but I'm not that interested. What I found helpful was pushing the stick all the way forward and steering by rolling the stick around the perimeter of it's bounds. This is a lousy way to do a road course but works well with long sloping high speed corners that require a lot of subtle steering corrections.

Beginner and Advanced were pretty easy with the controller but Intermediate is impossible, I can't get any better than second place no matter what I do. I really want to gold this event so I can get the free NASCAR. :(

You win a Nascar if you gold them all.
And they are indeed easier then other events.

If you disable all the aids all you have to do is learning how much the stick has to be moved. Go half throttle threw the Indy turns -> Gold

Same for the last part. Just disable all the aids. Its much easier to drive the Nascar like this. You dont have to break hard anyway and you can take the corners at much higher speed. If you need to overtake. Draft! Stay behind those cars in the turns and you will pass them easy on the straight.

I took the first one in the pit event at the last corner. Just keep it steady and push.

but Intermediate is impossible

Its not!

I still use X and square btw!

I did all gold with the controller. The lane tests were not that hard. I'd say it's more about smooth turning, less about throttle. And I did the lanes with the ASM on.

For the highest level tests I got the ASM off. You can do this by setting the ABS off. Somehow this disables the ASM, too, even though it seems like it is still on on in the menu.

The expert Indy should be very easy anyways, but for the speedway you really save your sanity by getting the ASM off.

Just turn all aids off in the car option before the race.

The test where you have to take the outsideline is all about staying under the white line. Do that and the gold is yours.

I thought it was extremely difficult to do with a controller
but it's possible, I did it with a DS3 and although it took me a whole afternoon you can do it!!

I used this video for tip, although this guy uses a wheel

HAVE FAITH YOU CAN DO IT!! THINK OF THE FREE NASCAR!!

I haven't tried the advanced ones yet, but I got the others all gold after a few tries.
It's practically impossible to do it smooth with the D-pad though, and I'm worthless with the analog sticks.

After a gazillion attempts I got silver on the outside cone thing with the controller ... after another gazillion attempts to gold that as my last I gave up and bought a NASCAR :P

I got mainly bronzes and a few silver when I had my controller.... Bought a wheel a few days ago, and got all gold in about 10 minutes :P

I've used a controller for every GT title and this one is the hardest to date. I golded all the ones besides advanced no problem. I had to do the advanced ones a couple times to gold them but I think that was more to do with the test. The pit one was tough, if you didn't time it right you were done before you started. But it is possible

I was having trouble on Intermediate using a controller. I had the perfect line and was barely getting silver. I turned all the aids off and destroyed it the next try. Like someone earlier said, if you have to correct you're losing speed. So learn where the stick has to be and hold it there.

Thanks for all the reply's , still yet to get within 1sec of bronze keep hitting the wall or cones :ouch::ouch::ouch::ouch: I will have to do a million more trys now I know it can be done .:banghead::banghead:
:cheers:Ozi

Golded them all, but it took quite some time for the Intermediate ones. If you can't do them just give them a rest and come back to them later. I was 0.002 from gold so many times, I decided to give it a go another time, came back and got it.

I (and my DS3) had a bit of trouble with the Daytona outside line challenge also. Like other people said, the trick is to turn off the driving aids but especially turn off TCS. I went from constantly failing to passing with bronze even though I scraped the wall just coming out of the corner on my first try and then eventually I got gold after a couple more attempts. With the TCS off you'll have enough speed, now you can work on your technique. It just takes some practice to determine what sends your car into the wall or into the cones and what keeps your car in the lane. It's fine if the car's movements are a little bit choppy just as long as you aren't losing a ton of speed.

I agree that the advanced challenges were a bit of a joke with the Anti-Speed Mechanism (ASM) turned off, but at least they were fun.
