Can you import a Peugeot from Mexico to Canada?

Sorry for the necro, but I thought I'd give an honorable mention:

On sale in my area for $18k, extremely gorgeous. I'm still drooling over Peugeots after a year, and a 406 Coupe is what I want as a first car. It seems that many people import them from Europe and Japan, as St. Pierre & Miquelon's used car market is very small.

I'd go for a 106 Rallye, if you're going to break the bank importing a car you may as well go for broke and get the best 106 ever made - if not the best Peugeot

Super lightweight body makes for great fun without the need for high outputs 👍

The RCZ is a beautiful car. It's one of those cars with a perfect design; nothing about the bodywork could be made better.

$7.5K, the hood and roof is vinyl on the original panels.

And don't get me started on the looks of the RCZ. Its so gorgeous  We really need to petition Peugeot to start selling in North America again. Its really a shame to not have them here.

You could bag a second hand 406 Coupe for just under £10k (18,000 CAD) in the UK about a decade ago. So it's startling to see that they're just as expensive in Canada 10 years down the road. Especially when they're going for 10% of that cost over here nowadays.

More than $7k for a 106 GTi is pretty steep too, unless it's been extensively modified. While a 1.6 205 GTi for that price would be far more reasonable and a far more desirable Peugeot. Though it wouldn't surprise me if you could count the number of those that reached North America on one hand.

Can I give some genuine advice?

Don't buy a car that has quite the crappy reputation when there are very few spare parts available for them, and seeing the time period of cars you are choosing from, that is just about the worst. If you insist on buying a Peugeot from that era, buy one with a non turbo diesel and very few electric options.

Import a Peugeot from Mexico to Canada???

Hmmmmm... I don't know man... I think it shouldn't be difficult.

My 2 cents... Importing with less than 15 years might be tricky.

On the Peugeot subject, I recently moved to Mexico for work and bought a 2008 Peugeot 207 RC (GTi), paid less than $10,000 CDN (MSRP $25,000), and it is an AWESOME car to drive.

A trick if you will import an ODD car, look up the design history, e.g. my 207 RC uses the same engine as a Mini Cooper S. Yes suspension part would still be.. not hard... just lenghtfull to get, but at least the engine parts easy, as they will be probably be required more often. (Just like the Ford Ranger shares parts with the Mazda B200 pickup, SEAT cars use Volkswagon parts)

The 406 Coupe above... you can get one for $5,000 - $6,000 CDN in Mexico (but all automatics).

Things I heard: dont even try to import a pre-2012 Ford Focus ST / RS from Mexico, they will deny it, and importing illegally will result in the car being crushed.

On the UPPER HAND, you can Temporally Import any car (some conditions apply) under a Temporary Permit for a limited period of time (I believe 6 months), then it must exit the country.
So I can go to Montreal with my 207 RC, by obtaining a temporary permit crossing U.S. border then Canadian border.

Research is a big MUST to import such cars.

All this said, John Scotty in Montreal imports rare cars from Europe such as Lotus Elise and others... so importing is do-able... maybe look up Import Brokers in the yellow pages.

Peugeot 205 GTi would be legal in the US now right?

If you want a Peugeot that is the one to have(arguably the best of all time).

Way too much they sell here for like 5k lol. And Australia pays far too much for cars.

Early 205 GTis are legal to import to the US with minimum changes now, yes.

But the OP is looking to import to Canada, which obviously has different laws. They have a 15 year limit instead of a 25 year limit in the US.
