I doubt you will. The "it doesn't work because I can't work it" attitude is usually quite heavily ingrained.

Along with the "I want something but am too important/busy to look for it myself" one. And the "it's never my fault" one.

Wow, someone is a little touchie, it's ok I'll get over it, sounds like you won't...

You've come on here and blamed everyone who replied to you for a problem that is clearly at your end, accused them of being a bad driver because they didn't solve the problem for you and pretty much ignored any and all advice given to you.

You then wonder why members may get a bit fed-up with your attitude?

Please do get over it and cut the attitude, otherwise I can assure you, your membership here will be a short one.

I converted my xls to mysql and have a web site that lists the cars, dealers, and days. It also has a search but that isn't finished yet, I need to make it safe from sql-injection. It is about as ugly as html gets, but it works. It is for the VW GTI staring car.

http://www.peterjford.com/gtpsp/index.php

If you see any error or bugs, send me a PM.

I am thinking about giving the php code and mysql schema to anyone that wants to host the other starting days. I just would need to come with some kind of user agreement or license to CMA.

Hopefully everyone can open and use this :sly:

👍 That is amazing Pete.

Excellent work, I am thoroughly impressed. I think your link should be copied over to the first post to benefit all of us that had the Vdub as the starting car. I am especially impressed that you not only have day, dealership but also the pricing. Pricing is a biggie. This definitely helps around planning on clearing out all the cars and color combinations on those days.

Thanks!

famine could you upload it again please.

i downloaded this and it would not open on any of my unzipper softwares (winzip, camunzip, ect) it said on all of them that the data was corrupt and that i needed to download it again.

you may think uploading it again may not help however i download roms for ds and if people re upload them is somtimes get rid of the problem.

i got the megane aswell ( is it just me or is the worst car you could get out of all of the starter cars)

Famine, I downloaded your zip on three different machines. Al have MS zip (the backed in version of XP). I cannot get it to work on any of those three machines.

So it is not perse the end user ;)

edit: I will give it try with winzip installed tonight.

I am on a different machine to the one I uploaded it from.

I just downloaded, double-clicked to unpack, double-clicked the Excel file and it opened without any fuss. So it is the end user. The file is fine.

I just did the same thing, download, unzip with WinRAR and open with Exel 2007 trail edition.

And it works just fine.

I have no clue why you guys are having so much problem just doing that, but it's not the file that's for sure.

Hmmzz okay.

I used winrar3.80. The zip file I downloaded (megane starter car) contains a folder with the name "gtpspcarsMEGANE". That folder contains a file with the same name "gtpspcarsMEGANE".

If I open the file in Excel I get the message that it is an unrecognizable file format.

What could I be doing wrong.

Oh and please Famine, do not say that it DOES work for everybody. There have been several posters now who cannot get 'your' file to work.

See it in a positive way. I really would like to use the file because I expect that you did a good job on the content. And I would like to see that content.

I just downloaded Famine's file. I am using a work PC with vista. I used the windows native zip tool and it extracted it to a folder. Inside that folder was gtpspcarsMEGANE.xls. Double clicked on that an it opened in excel. I then deleted all that, and used 7zip to extract it. Got the file in the directory I downloaded the file to and used "open" in excel to open the file.

I might try at home with a laptop running win2000pro, using winrar and openoffice.

BTW Famine did a great job on it.

I'm not sure if I'm reading well... but inside the zip file there's only 1 .xls file nothing else, and it works fine.

If you want you can also extract the exel file before trying to open it...

I used WinRAR 3.71 just to make it clear.

There is an issue with how you are unpacking it. The folder contains a file called "gtpspcarsMEGANE.xls".

Simple fact is that if the file didn't work, it wouldn't work for anyone. Since it does work for people, it's not a problem with the file but, as I endeavoured to point out, a problem with how the people for whom it doesn't work are unpacking it.

Yes I know that. You made your point.

I am just looking for help to get it working.

edit: I use Winxp pro and winrar 3.80.

Without being there with you, there's really not much I can do.

However, I will state again that I used the WindowsXP Compressed File wizard to pack it and that method worked for unpacking it at the time of my previous post. Further to that, as mentioned earlier in the thread, some people have previously reported success using the freely-available 7zip programme with Excel-format files I've compressed using the XP Compressed File Wizard (on 6 different XP machines from 7 different locations) and uploaded to GTP.

Edit: I've also just used an evaluation copy of WinRAR (3.71) as a test and enjoyed similar success.

Here is my theory, for what it's worth, which does not seem to mean much around here. I tested using my own file and uploaded it to this website (forum) then tried to download. I got the same error as I did trying to download this particular file. So I feel, it cannot be contended IMO, that for whatever reason, certain people cannot get a proper DL.

I am very computer savvy, despite the opinions given here, have tried everything and basically have concluded that the DL process, for whatever reason, causes a corrupt file.

Bash me all you want, say I've got a cocky attitude, but it is very piss'n frustrating especially when people keep telling you “it always works for ME”. :banghead:

That's fine if the file does work and is not corrupt for you, but at least acknowledge that there is a problem with "something". And the something is not PEBKAC.

Here is the Winzip error message...

Message WZ40

The Zip file cannot be opened. If this Zip file is part of a multiple-disk set, please insert the last disk of the set and try again (this is required by the standard Zip multi-disk format). You may subsequently be prompted to insert other disks from the set.
If you downloaded this file, the most likely cause of this problem is a bad download. The best solution is almost always to download the file again. If this does not solve the problem, see the web page http://www.winzip.com/downprob.htm for hints on resolving download problems.

If you did not download this file, and it is not part of a multiple-disk set, it is either not a valid Zip file or it is corrupt, perhaps because of a bad diskette.

famine please put some screenshots in for us then.

we arn't blaming you for the problem and are just saying that it doesn't work for us and that we really want to know what the cycles are.

a couple of screenshots of the spreadsheet would be really greatly apprieciated.

Except it does work for them. That's why they say it. I forwarded just the attachment link to a friend. Guess what? They downloaded it, unzipped it and opened it just fine.

The file has not changed since I uploaded it. A large number of people can download it and use it just fine. That says that the file is fine - if it wasn't then no-one would be able to use it. So that leaves one possibility. PEBKAC.

Blaming and insulting me will not change that. What it will change is any inclination I might have to assist you further.

Edit: Not that I even can. Until you acknowledge the problem is at your end and you change how you're unzipping it. Which is something you could have done long before now.

Seriously can you NOT read!!!

I'VE acknowledged that it seems that it is NOT the file, read what I wrote!:dunce:

The problem is the way this site links to some of us on the DL, got it!?!? IT DOES NOT DOWNLOAD PROPERLY FOR US AND PRODUCES A CORRUPT FILE. WTF is your problem, seriously. Get over yourself or just toss off.

All the time you have spent explaining yourself you could have posted something that we could use.

Fortunatly, there will be a post shortly coming out on the PSN US website forum that won't require a DL. See the PSP GT Thread soon.👍

Of course, the problem must be the website and not you, right? Nothing could ever be your fault...

The same people who managed to successfully unzip the file successfully downloaded it first. No dice there, Mr. Angry.

All the time you have spent explaining yourself you could have posted something that we could use.

And for all the time you spent ranting and railing, insulting and abusing and blaming everything but yourself, you could have downloaded 7zip for free and solved it. Though that'd require you to accept that it's YOUR problem, not mine or GTPlanet's.

Not to mention the fact that "we", being the larger GTPlanet community, can use the file. Though naturally I should do everything I can to help you specifically even though you're intensely unpleasant.

Never said it was the website? I said it was our link to the website. Quit putting words in my posts.

Why would 7zip be required? You and other said that you have use other zip programs? Now your really not making sense.

I'm not going to load some 3rd party software that you are endorsing and possibly corrupt my machine. You’re a donkey and by your continued responses it becomes more and more apparent. I'm I being a jerk, certainly, but it is only to expose your obviously pompus demeanor. How you got to be a "super moderator" is astounding with your people skills.

Your words. In your post. The problem is the way this site does something. Of course it is.

Why would 7zip be required? You and other said that you have use other zip programs? Now your really not making sense.

Actually if you weren't so lazy and reliant on other people to do your work for you, you'd have seen that programme mentioned three times in this thread already, once by me in a response to you which you then quoted.

I'm not going to load some 3rd party software that you are endorsing and possibly corrupt my machine.

As you're so "computer savvy" I doubt that would be an issue.

You’re a donkey and by your continued responses it becomes more and more apparent.

No, I'm just refusing to help you. Particularly as any help I could give would first depend on you admitting that you are the problem.

Again with the insults, all because I won't do what you demand.

I'm I being a jerk, certainly, but it is only to expose your obviously pompus demeanor.

So you were exposing my obviously pompous demeanour when you posted your first message on the site to tell me that my file is corrupt (which it isn't) and your first post on this site to sarcastically ask if I'd even tested my file (which I had, and 200 other people subsequently had)?

Seems rather more like you were just being, as you say, "a jerk" because it's your natural character. A normal person would have asked for assistance with a problem they had - but of course it's not your problem is it? It's ours.

How you got to be a "super moderator" is astounding with your people skills.

That alone should tell you that the world in your head, where we're all here to serve you because you're too busy to do it yourself, isn't necessarily the correct one.

Incidentally, you might like to know that I'm now repeatedly downloading the as-yet-unchanged file for fun. It takes about 7 seconds and five mouse clicks to go from link to open spreadsheet, using just the XP wizard and office.

Oooh, I did it again :D

Oh hey, I just sent the link to a friend of mine and they opened it with no problems either, and they don't even have a PSP! I quote "whoa! spreadsheet of massiveness!".

Oh, I did another one. It looks so awesome.

Edit: Another friend just tried. "Opened first time *high fives* "

lbsf1 and MarcoM ask you for help in a polite way and you treated them the same way you have treated me from the get go.

My original post to you was a direct reflection of the previous posts you have made that are contained in this very thread. You have continued to be closed minded and rude on some level to each and every poster that contends that the file doesn't work for them.

Quit blaming the people asking for help and act like a fair (super) moderator should, create a RESOLUTION.

That's what you think. But of course I have actually provided them with help - the only help I can give. You just read clean past it.

Your first post on the site was loaded with sarcasm and blame - as was the visitor message you posted. You reap what you sow.

You see me as closed-minded and rude because I won't help you. I won't help you because you were insulting right off the bat.

Amusingly, I haven't blamed anyone for anything. You, on the other hand, have blamed everyone and everything in the very simple chain from "click link" to "peruse file" except yourself. There is a simple resolution. You just refuse point blank to see it because you will not accept that the problem is entirely contained within your computer.

You've been nothing but rude, abusive, insulting, condescending, arrogant and wrong since you first put finger to keyboard here. I would actually have been within my rights as a Super Moderator to have banned you by now. And yet... I haven't. I haven't even issued you with so much as a Warning.

Interesting, isn't it?

Edit: I just reset my connection and downloaded the file again. Guess what? It worked.

php code and mysql schema to create pages like these is available for anyone that wants to host it. All I ask is that if you come up with better solutions, share them with me and anyone else that uses it, and that you don't blame me if something "bad" happens while using it. I wish I could host all starting cars but I spent too much time on this one already. I am doing little fixes and tweaks to it every day, but I think its pretty much done.

Good for you, Jack!:sly: <to Famine>

Enlightenment is a wonderful thing... as Duke said sooner or later you will have to accept the facts.

I have... I understand that nothing on my end can fix the problem, appearently currently and from your responses, nothing on your end will fix my DL. And just so I'm clear, I'm not willing to change my standard software just to open YOUR particullary FORMATED file.👎

BTW... Nice Scottland picts. Also you haven't banned me because you know the issue is true.

So far it seems that you have a problem and refuse to take anyone's advice. If the problem was on his end there wold have been someone pointing it out before now as his was one of the first files posted.

Also, for the record, I have Dl'd his file and am currently using is as a checklist for GTPSP cars so it obviously isn't an issue with the file itself.

Also, I'm guessing you are pushing the line as far as the banning thing goes. If I were you I wouldn't push my luck.

I tried the file from two different locations, three different OSes (OSX 10.6.1, Vista SP2 and Ubuntu 9.04), several different extraction utilities and several different versions of Office/Office Mac/OpenOffice (Win/Linux/Mac). They all opened the file just fine. It's most definitely NOT the file. I think too many people spent too much effort on this already...
