Isn't the Amuse Carbon R technically a drift car?

Also, there is no Polo Cup Car. That's my mistake. Sorry.

The Majority of the fantasy LM cars would probably be GT1 class with the exception of the RX-8, RX-7 and a couple others that would be GT2 class.

The RM cars are actually based off real life cars. Mostly touring cars, but there are some cool exceptions:

Both of the RM Corvettes are LeMans cars with the ZR1 RM being the GT1 car and the Z06 being the GT2 car. The 2010 Camaro RM is actually based off the Sunco Camaro Livery in the Grand Am Sports Car Series (I can't remember if its the Rolex SCS or the Continental Tire SCS. But they're both Grand Am. The Challenger and '69 Camaro RMs are old Trans Am cars. The TVR is an old FIA car. The Subaru is a Rally car and the Evo is a rally car as well. The rest, I believe are Cup Cars and Touring Cars.
Actually there used to be a class in Le Mans that was called IMSA GTS where mostly cars racing a GT class in the US raced. Cars like Mazda RX-7 (picture) and Nissan 300ZX (picture). These cars were basically on par with the ´94 GT1 cars in terms of speed. See here. I think PD made the RX-7 and 8 with that old class in mind.

As for the RM vettes it´s the other way around; The ZR1 is GT2 and the Z06 is GT1. The TVR is indeed supposed to resemble an old FIA GT2 car. pic
Also the RM Honda NSX is AFAIK modelled after the ´94 GT2 NSX, pic or the ´95 GT1, pic.
For fun: the Jaguar XJ220 LM from ´95
And for finale a picture of the Zonda that raced Le Mans in 2003.

Ok guys keeping up with this is really tough. If those that want to suggest edits take my list copy and edit it and repost in a reply. I will copy your post to the first page! I am loving the list. It is great to see it growing and getting refined. Thanks to all that is helping with this. Lets keep it getting better and better!

I don't follow all the different types of racing, so could someone describe each category of race cars that have been listed on this thread (RM, JGTC, Touring Cars)? Thanks.

Touring Cars
Are mostly four door saloons (sedans) wich are fairly close to the production cars. The super touring cars are quicker and has less (read; almost nothing) in common with the production car. As far as I know, only the BMW is a real car as listed below.

S BMW 320i Touring Car ‘03
S Honda INTEGRA TYPE R Touring Car
S Mazda Atenza Touring Car
S Mazda Mazda6 Touring Car
S Mitsubishi FTO Super Touring Car

DTM Touring Cars DTM is the German touringcar championship. DTM = Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. These cars are proper racecars and has just about nothing in common with the cars they resemble. The older ones do though, even though most of the roadcars they come from were often homologation specials.

JGTC/SuperGT JGTC is the old name for SuperGT, so I took the liberty to mix these up. These cars are extremely modified and share nothing but the a-pillars (in some cases also the roof) with the roadcars they resemble. They come it two classes; GT300 and GT500. I list the GT300 cars so logically the rest are GT500.

GT1 The GT1 cars are highly modified coupes, and has to be based on a production car. the cars from ´97-´98 only had to have a single roadcar built for homologation purposes, wich made them basically like prototypes. The rules were changed for the ´99 season and the cars became slower, but still immense racecars. Series they raced in besides the LM series were FIA GT, but also the odd national championship, like ADAC GT Masters, FFSA, Belcar.

I don't follow all the different types of racing, so could someone describe each category of race cars that have been listed on this thread (RM, JGTC, Touring Cars)? Thanks.

I have taken the time to modify the list, add some new cars and do some fiddling in list, and also written a few words about things I know. If there is nothing written, then it is either selfexplanatory or I simply didn´t know anything about it.

"Stock cars" are call that because when the series first started cars were completely stock except for some very small adjustments which were mostly to the weight. In fact, NASCAR rules required the cars to be pretty much from the showroom floor. This, today, is known as Showroom Stock and is still used in things like the Continental Tire Challenge Sports Car Series and some SCCA races.

However, NASCAR does still require cars to be current production cars. However, most of the modern stock cars use the same chasis and similar engines. But it is true: modern day NASCAR stock cars are anything but stock.

Also, the FTO Super Touring Car is based of the JGTC FTO pictured here. However, the FTO LM Edition/Super Touring Car is modified beyond it's original JGTC specs. (I believe the original was a GT300 class car, and the one in GT5 is closer to a GT500 class car.)

And the single Pike's Peak car: The Escudo.

Rally Raid is like Paris to Dakar and The Baja 1000. Mainly cross country, "Get from check point to check point without a fixed course" type of racing.

The Escudo, I believe, was part of the Unlimited class and would have competed against the Toyota Tacoma PP and others. The class has also seen the Celica PP and the LMP looking Genesis PP.

The Peugeot rallyee cars were simply a lighter version of their equivalent road going hot hatch or gti so no place in a race car/rally thread.

Thank you all for the hardwork, and thanks above to the guy who gave a breakdown for each group/class.

These seem to be the cars I need to look out for :)

This sort of info would work really well in a wiki

Based on the listing I"m using, it's not the same, it's a different year. And I didn't typo WRC," it says "RC." I assume that to be an abbreviation for "Rally Car" but cannot actually confirm that is the case until I see the car show up in the UCD. Which is why I listed it separately.

The Peugot is spelled oddly and I also can't get a visual on it, so I dunno if it's an actual liveried Rally Car racer or if it's just a trim package on a street car.

I love these racing car lists. My two (or perhaps a bit more) pennies would be as follows.

The Lexus IS200 GT1 is actually a touring car, contrary to its name.

The Le Mans GT1 class cars should be: McLaren F1 GT-R, Panoz Esperante GTR-1, Mercedes CLK GT-R and the Nissan R390 GT1. These are from the original GT1 class from the mid to late '90s. The Corvette C5-R and the two Viper GTS-Rs are Le Mans GTS class cars. I would have included the Jaguar XJ220 in the Le Mans GT class. All these would probably qualify for GT1 class as Mt. Lynx has them listed.

Great list man, keep up the good work!

Ah, thanks. That's sorta what I was thinking was the case, which is why I listed it apart. Was hoping someone with more knowledge would chime in. :)

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks a ton for the efforts and knowledge of everyone involved in this listing. I've referred to it several times already, and it's becoming a very useful resource!

thanks!

No, it isn't the D1GP version in game. It has a different paint job and body kit and is missing the orange banner from the wind shield, which the Blitz skyline has. Also, a quote from the in game description of the car: "The Quantum based Amemiya spec adjustable suspension has been perfected to a level which draws out the true character of the FD3S as the ultimate cornering machine". It also comes with sports soft tyres as standard, whereas other drift cars have comfort tyres.
