I'm currently creating a new comprehensive car and colour database for GTPlanet and need the community's help. You may be wondering why I don't just use the ones available now. The answer to that is this, I plan to combine the two together which will show which cars are rare or collectible in the marketplace.

For example, did you know that the Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX in Wine Two-Tone is a collectible car? You cannot get the Wine Two-Tone paintchip so there is no way of recreating this car in that colour. Do you know how many colour Porsche there are, Bugattis? This new database I'm creating should be able to tell you all this, but I need the community's help in creating it.

I have created a database entry form. What I need the community members to do is to look at their cars on GT5 that have NOT been painted (by you or anybody who sent it to you) and to tell me what colour it is, That's it.

If everybody in the community does this then we will have a comprhensive database with all the rare car and colour combination out there.

Who knows maybe we will even find the Emerald green Camaro :sly:

HELP CREATE THE DATABASE

You don't even have to answer all the questions (though it would help) just the ones with a red star, which is just one.

CURRENT DATABASE (WIP)
V Download link below V

The majority of the data in this database is from Famine and SlipZtrEm. It is a combination of their work with additional information added by me and the wider GTPlanet community:

Current direct contributors to the database:
Monatsende x22
CostasDrifter x21
Igwyana x17
spikeyhairdude x3
cryptomanic x4
jkt008 x1
Smittman x1

Contributors of invaluable info to be entered into the database:
requin
CostasDrifter
Duck
Dr.Mabuse666
BryCivicSi
dazzee
Use of the database
At the bottom of the excel spreadsheet you will find 4 worksheet tabs.

Worksheet 1) is for collecting cars, it will list all colour combinations for every car. filters will be added to show cars that cannot be painted or come with unique colours which are not available as a paintchip. As an example use the manufacturer filter at the top to look at all Ferrari colours, RUF colours or Bugattis.

Worksheet 2) is for collecting paint. It lists paints, the manufacturer and the number of car models that come in that colour.

Worksheet 3) Is general car info, sorted into manufacturers

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND COMMENT ON ANY IMPROVEMENTS

View in browser

Tip: In the browser version filters are harder to use, but clicking "Select All" unticks everything then you can select only the manufacturers you want to see.

Just curious here... what is the end result here? There are already 2 great sources of information here that took a couple individuals a considerable amount of time to create... and considering that there are almost 5000 car color combinations having people enter these through a web form seems a little tedious.... now I am not trying to rain on your parade here.. all the more power to ya if you can get this accomplished but I do not see the value in it? I mean really I don't care that you cannot recreate a Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX in Wine Two-Tone that fact it not going to suddenly make me ask for 3 cars for it? (although some people on here do think that way...) anyways... just my 2 cents.. a car is a car and if I could I would trade an X1 for a FIAT 500 because I am looking for the FIAT doesn't really matter to me that the X1 is a $20 Million dollar car and is rare (this is just speaking hypothetically...) anyways I am rambling here.. my point here is what is the value added undertaking such a large project when we already have something of similar value.... Thanks for listening... and good luck my friend....

Thanks sharky. The point is that it combines the two so that it is more comprehensive. I did question the usefulness of the database myself before I decided to create it but I got some wise words from Famine about whether I should or not.

I know there are people who decide to collect all colours of a given car, for example Porsches, cup cars, Buggatis, etc. They may want to know how many there are. This information is scattered in the forums here and there but I plan to put it all into this one database.
Also, the current paint database does not list all the colours for these cars and other cars that may not have colour names. The other point about the colour database came up during WebWolfs and DeuceofClubs collection of paintchips, some paints were listed because a car with that paint existed, the paintchip however did not. This caused some confusion when collecting the paintchips because they didn't actually exist but the car in that colour did. I'm hoping this will retain information about both.

alright fair enough... would it not be easier to dump the 2 sources we already have into a Database of some kinds and combine the information as a baseline to start with and just update the information on the new filed added on a go forward basis? that way you are not starting from scratch?

I actually used the current car database to create the form so the car database is actually already there. It's the process of connecting the colours to the cars and unfortunately I cannot do that without knowing what actually exists in a given colour. I do plan to use the current paint database along with DeuceofClubs and Webwolfs help to eleminate quite a few but the information about what actually exists out there is invaluable to eliminate this discrepancy between existing paintchips and existing car colours, what is paintable, what isn't, etc.

I think the combined database would be helpful. But this will be a tough and time-eating project.

It will be tough, I'm hoping that with the community's help it will be fairly quick to get the data needed for the database. If there is widespread interest in helping that is. Even if each person only input a few cars each day it will build up very quickly. Inputing any data is helpful and one of the reasons I didn't include a database view is that the form is quick so it takes about as much time to input data as it does to check if the data already exists. The plus side of this is that it's a form of error checking too.

Not one person input anything into the database. :(
Seems I wasted a day inputing the car database into the form.

I am not an expert in that "this car exists in that colours"-thing. I don`t want to create more confusion. :dunce:

Nevertheless, thanks Monatsende for showing an interest in the database.

I'm by no means an expert either, I just look at my own cars and my UCD and input the data I see. Ofcourse I don't own all combinations which was why I was hoping others would too so that collectively we do. Was kind of hoping this database will mean people don't have to be a seasoned GT5 trader to be an expert about what is out there.

The only thing we are missing is a complete list of all two-tones, maybe combined with a list of all cars which don´t give you a paint chip. cars, paints and colored race cars are already covered in great quality.

here are my two-tones. I know I miss some Bugattis, maybe we can complete this list together.

The emerald green camero is rare...... That guy got a deal. I'm mad now

Thanks Dr.Mabuse for the offer to help and the great info, I'll input them into the database. Does anybody know if this colour database is the latest one?

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=165958

Yep thats the latest one!👍

I opened it as an excel document on my laptop. This new list is nice as you can pick the car manufacturer and car model columns and alphabetize them from a-z. Once this is done it gives you the most comprehensive list I have seen and has them sorted by Manufacturer and model so you don't have to group them together.

Thanks everyone for the helpful info.
I've successfully merged a lot of the two databases together with a script and had the first ever database contribution about a non-paintable car from jkt008. Thank you :)
Please keep them coming.

You have some heavy database skills...

Where is this database we can all look at?

I am kind of curious if you have a lead on the Isuzu Bellett 1600 GT-R. I know of Magnolia White, Maple Orange, and Soleri Gold (I am pretty certain that is spelled wrong) but wondering if there are other colors. I love that car and may try to collect them all.

Thanks.

It's Soleil Gold Metallic 👍 Only those 3 colours according to the colour database but I guess you never know ;)

Yeah, I figured as much and those are the only 3 I've come by so far ripping that year ticket. But hmm... now as I type this, I sort of remember a yellow one. Is this possible? Maybe I need to do the old same make race practice model race trick to see if anything new pops up. Will test shortly....

Wonder if anyones done that and found the elusive Emerald green camaro 👍

It's possible to track a car down that way. However, doing it this method doesn't help me figure out the names of the paints. I only get to see the color swatch. So, if there are multiple green Camaros, this method doesn't help.

This worked great helping me track all 49 RUF but those colors are so obviously different and the paints don't have names so I could make them up and assign them as I wished.

I tested 3x with the Isuzu Bellett and came up empty. Maybe I mistook gold for yellow when I saw it?

Hi BryCivic
Glad to see you got your answer about the Isuzu but if you are still curious about the database; The database of user entries is available as a google doc but the merged database I would have to upload somewhere so it isn't available yet.

Right on and thanks. I assume you saw my post for the RUF colors?!

Sure did, thanks. I will add them after I finish with the merging and two-tones. If somebody could add them using the database entry on the first page it would be greatly appreciated, if not, I'll get to it eventually :).

Again nobody input anything into the database since yesterday. :( The only people who have input anything at all (into the web form) since this began are jkt008 and Igwyana.

BTW I have a preliminary database, how do I upload it here? so that I can show you how it is, maybe it will garner interest?
