It is just an imperfect guesstimate based on the below. Don't take it too seriously. The factors tipping it into TT14 being worst were fewer people getting any medal at all, fewer people getting bronze and a bigger gap from 1 to 100.

If I recall correctly, when the NSX TT came around the car wasn't even available to purchase from the UCD. So if you didn't already have it you were SOL. Sure, you could rent the car but since it was a tuning event, renting a stock version would've been quite uncompetitive and a waste of time.

That + Nord (hey, you either love it or hate it) + tuning = likely why the participation was so low. My guess would be mostly because of the first reason, but of course cannot quantify that in the least.

Indeed. You will also have had drivers who just play an hour a week and would not have tuned their cars, or as you said, rented one.
