Missed the vote (and the boat really) but I would say probably say 964. The 964 had the best combination (for me) of modern engine with the original body and a more classic feel. I don't really like the widebody 911's so the 993 is automatically cut (despite the vastly improved multi-link rear suspension). I'll take a 964 Carrera 2 thank you. I had actually planned on buying one after I finished grad school, but the prices have shot up an insane amount in the last 2 years (conveniently while I was in grad school ) putting them out of reach for the time being. I could probably stretch for one, but I decided I'd rather save for a house.
/OT: The first gen Boxsters are insane value right now, too good to ignore. Valuation is utterly based on aesthetics in the end, and the Boxsters still look too much like used-Porsche and not classic-Porsche at the moment, kinda like the Ferrari 308 and 328 in the 90s when they were selling for less than 20k, the NSX until about 5 years ago, as low as $20k, or the Porsche 964 itself in the early 2000s also selling for around 20k.
