Yes its my first post, im a noob, but i have near completed all gt's so far.

Wow, all i can say is that this is my favorite car to drive in the game so far. To me it looks the business, i love the CAN-AM racers. The suckers/fans really do seem to create some kind of ground effect, and that big block chevy motor is just something else.

So far i have found this car to be amoungst the easist cars to drive quickly and smoothly in the game. i was worried about having just three gears, but it doesnt sem to be an issue, and helps to make the car more tractable

What does evryone else think, and any setup tips??

try and ajust the gearing so it doesnt top out so early. but yea, its a fun car, shame the fans dont have any animations :(

I think it's a great car. It can win the GTWC for 200pts, and it can keep up with cars 20-30 years younger.
I wouldnt call it smooth to drive, especially on super hards. I always drive it in auto, as the real car was an auto, so I keep up the realism. With a stage 4 turbo, geared correctly, it will do rediculously high speeds.
I do agree though, the car looks great, and is one of the most fun and interesting cars in the game.

its a great car, can be tuned to go really really fast too just tune that tranny of yours.

a friend of myne cant even tune it to turn very good, but i find it easy to drive, and easy to tune.

definatly a good car and its one of the fastest cars for cheap too, well its like 1.2 million or so but thats cheaper than 3.5 million you would have to pay for a class c racer.

I have another car to add, and its the Ford GT LM race car 04, not the PD version, the upgraded, modern version from the '69 GT40,(light blue and orange) you win at the Infineon enduro race. This is one of the best all-around race cars in the game for me, it handles smoothly, has excellent brake response,(unlike the other Ford GTs which have horrendous brake performance), and its fast.
Even on hard race tires, it drives smoothly. This car is definitly one of the best overall cars in the game. Does anybody else notice or agree on the Ford GT LM race car?

I dont know about that because I havent won it yet, but the GT LM Race Car Spec II (from the GTWC) is a great handling car. The differences between the road Ford GTs and the race versions are huge (the latter has brakes and a lot more rear grip). And while were on the topic, I think the original GT40 is quite fun to drive also (I wonder if it could win the Le Sarthe 24hour race)

The Chapparl 2J is the Group C killer!

Got me my 200p at GT All Stars and Real Circuits.

Whether it's "quick and smooth" is entirely dependent on the track.

Ever take it out on the Ring? :scared: :nervous: :ill:

Why would you want to buy this car when you can just win it?? in one of the Enduros. 💡

Edit: I just don't like this car... i like racing against one though, i've been able to beat this car when ever it pops up , with production cars, like the Supra, 300ZX, S2000, RX-7 etc... (Japanese Imports) with little mods. But it's a good car but i can find better in many situations.

i resently restarted gt4 with no gt3 bonuses and i didnt get a chance to try the charpell after i won it but i will probably try it when i win it again

right now im using the tvr griffith 500 and oh man what a great sounding car when you put mufflers on it

the 2J is like a brick. albeit, a very fast white brick with turbine engines

the 2D just looks rediculous

I think those turbine thingies are fans actually. As far as I know, the engine is a V8.

I would guess the fans are there to create low pressure under the car, which creates downforce - hence my earlier observation that the car "sucks" :)
That would explain its lack of wings and its odd boxy slabsided and very low ground clearance shape. I think it looks like a refrigerator from behind. And the Audi R8 certainly got used to the rear view of it when I took that earlier advice and entered the thing in Tsukuba Wet Hard 👍 👍 👍 👍 200 a-spec points almost as easy as at Like The Wind!

The 2J had 2 engines, a Chevvy V8 and a second Rockwell snowmobile engine, mounted at the rear. This produced an 55hp, which "sucked" the car down towards the road. The lexan side skirts created a vacumn under the car. Total downforce = around 1500lb.

Quote from a guy who drove the car:
"It was a semi-automatic transmission, it wasn't fully automatic. It had a three-speed transmission with a torque converter and a lock-up at 5,000 rpm. It was quite complicated to get it running. The steering column went down between your two feet so the left foot could only work the brake and the right foot could only work the gas pedal."

Does anybody think the 2D is any good for any race?

If you need something for the world classic car series, this should win easily.
Also, for the American Championship, this should win easily.
With a turbo it might also be competative at the GTWC.

Zardoz
No. It has no value as a race car at all.

Ohhh... give it a chance! The 2D can handle the American Championship very handily. ehhh... as long as the 2J isn't there anyway.

Every car has its place :D

For me the 3 speed is hard to get used to. Does anybody think the 2D is any good for any race?

I used the 2D for the 24 hour nurburgring and b-spec the whole race and he won by a lap over the BMW GTR race car.

i wonder why they didnt seal off the whole of the bottom of the car?.. maybe the downforce would have been too much and slowed the car down...

Not sure what you mean. It cannot have a flat underside because the suction area needs to have the tarmac as its lower surface, otherwise the low pressure caused by the fans will have no effect.

As for sealing the perimeter, the better you can do that the more efficient the downforce is... you want to prevent air from infront, behind and to the side of the car rushing in to replace the air you are working so hard to pump out, but this seal is limited by the fact that the car is moving, so contact with the tarmac would cause friction, and the need for the suspension to be able to work. If you have solid suspension, traction becomes more difficult, the car is tricky to ride and it will buck all over the place on bumps. As it is, a problem with ground effect is that if the car bounces over a kerb or something, all the pressure returns, and you have a sudden, substantial loss of downforce, most likely in the middle of a corner where you need it most. You can't have suspension movement if the car's body is in contact with the track at rest. F1 ground effect cars used sliding rubber skirts to allow for the car's movement, and when the sliding skirts were banned, the drivers had to endure rock hard suspension.
