Chaparral 2J what a car!

The more conventional but still fast Chaparral 2D has been pushed out of focus a bit too much, if you ask me... Thanks to some policy, I cannot drive the 2J. Ever. But I have heard it and frankly I believe. Parnelli Bone and I duscussed this car a while back, forgot where, though.

I drove this thing for the very first time on the ring today. I approached the first turn, turned left, and I went smashing into the left wall. I'm thinking "Holy 🤬. This thing has some freakishly serious grip!!!" I was driving it along for a few laps around the ring, and i still couldn't get used to the huge amount of grip comparable to a FGT on supersoft tires.

There's nothing - nothing - in GT4 that grips better than an FGT. Perhaps at very low speeds, without downforce - but even then the FGT's grip is overwhelming. The 2J, for the record, doesn't have much more grip than the Le Mans cars.

I think that depends on the track, really. I haven't found a single car in the game that can touch the 2J at tracks like Fuji 80s/90s. It destroys the Group C cars there (Tsukuba is another example, though the slow sections are unkind to the 3 speed wonder) and isn't too far behind the FGT speed wise through the sharper turns (especially in the 80s version).

to a FGT on supersoft tires.
I've never experienced any different tire compounds in the FGT. it handles exactly the same in Arcade with super hards, as it does with mediums, as it does with super softs.

I do not like the 2J. I have tried. I have honestly and truthfully tried to like this "pwnage" car. but try as i might, i cannot get the damned thing to do what i want it to. I'd take a 905 any day over it.

Also, I sure would like the game to model the effects of the fans spewing air and junk out the back. Mario Andretti complained of the junk it would hurl at the drivers behind it, so I'd like to see that. Go off track? there should be crap flying out. Run through a puddle from the rain that just passed over? I want a water stream spewing out the back for a split second. if there is dirt on the track, that should be subject to being sucked in, and spewed out also.

haha..indeed it was a breakthrough when the real car begins its race...then being banned after severals attempt...causing new devolopment in aerodynamics in race cars....

*but i love the torque of the engine...impressive...considering it was using 3speed...imagine if it has 7speed...(might be good to put it against F1 car)

Against AI, or against human-driven laps? As it is, the 2J doesn't hold a single lap record as far as I know - while most of them are held by the FGT, the Nurburgring one is held by the Minolta, and I think Le Mans has something else?

First when I drove that Chaparral 2J it was imbossible. It oversteers at any corner whatever your speed is. Now I use the throttle and brake in the same time and it helps a lot in these kind of cars...

Is that the greatest way to drive the Chaparral or is there something even better?

Believe it or not, in real life, the SCCA banned this car, because it was TOO good.

The fans on back did create a vacuum underneath, and created incredible down force. It actually shot rocks, and debris at other cars behind it...

I dont know about that because I havent won it yet, but the GT LM Race Car Spec II (from the GTWC) is a great handling car. The differences between the road Ford GTs and the race versions are huge (the latter has brakes and a lot more rear grip). And while were on the topic, I think the original GT40 is quite fun to drive also (I wonder if it could win the Le Sarthe 24hour race)

ahh
a true realist :D

HOLY THREAD REVIVAL

one page 1 and 2 where people were saying that the 2D has no value as a race car

Ill have you know it won the 200 Miles Laguna Seca 6 laps ahead of the Saleen S7

it got interesting with red rear's...mmm slidey... :)

I think it's a great car. It can win the GTWC for 200pts, and it can keep up with cars 20-30 years younger.
I wouldnt call it smooth to drive, especially on super hards. I always drive it in auto, as the real car was an auto, so I keep up the realism. With a stage 4 turbo, geared correctly, it will do rediculously high speeds.
I do agree though, the car looks great, and is one of the most fun and interesting cars in the game.

I think both of them have tremendous value as race cars, but the 2J sucks big-time.

...get it? it sucks? never mind. Alfaholic already used that joke. :ouch:
