You wont.

But I like that case...

I'll eventually either buy a panel with a window for that case or make my own.

As it would turn out, I'm paying more than all my reletives and parents put together on this stuff, so it's not all just birthday gifts.

If everyone else is paying for the other parts, I think that's pretty cheap for a good computer.

I just OCed my CPU some'or.

My little 1600+ w/266MHz FSB is now at 2100+ 330MHz FSB.

It's not the whole computer, just adding onto what I have.

** Note: The monitor isn't mine, it's my mom's. She's letting me borrow it for a little while to try out my new video card.

Stuff came in, I put it together, very good.

Pictures.

Yup. This rocks.

Want to see a little bit of what that video card can do?

1280x1024, 6x AA T3, 16X Forced AEF, all in game settings maxed out and a bunch of fancy named things on full.

Older game so the graphics aren't 'teh l33tness'. You loose so much detail when converting to jpg. It's like sharper in bmp.

Very, very playable frame rates...:D

What's a good game?

EDIT: The video card looks so sweet.. I can't wait to get it.

Is that counter strike 1.6, or condition zero?

You will not be disappointed.

Akira's right - It's one of the games that comes with it; Rainbow Six 3, Raven Shield.

Where are you getting it from? NewEgg, right? It's only $150 there.

True, but then again I do use it more than any other object in my house. I can watch TV/movies on it, I can play games, I can do work so the money is justified. Plus all that I listed would only cost $1,500 ish and be way cheaper than any pre built computer with the same specs.

I'm looking at this setup - once I get the 4 grand to put it all together

Radeon x800 Platinum Edition
Athlon FX-51
2 gigs dual channel ddr (not sure which to get - I'm waiting for DDR2 to be released
A pair of Western Digital 250GB S-ATA
17 or 19 inch LCD - it all depends on what the best gaming and Digital Arts LCD is in my price range
Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra
8x dvd+/- RW drive (The Sony one has the best benchmarks but it's expensive as bloody hell)

All of this in an ultra-silenced water cooled setup for my room. This price also includes the cost of a new table and chair for my room since I currently have neither. Further down the line, I want to purchase a nice Yamaha digital drum set

Ahh so you game on your pc, I had the ultimate gaming system in 1998 once. After that I got fed up of constantly buying new bits just to play games.

I mean the PC i'm using at the moment certainly isn't a slouch. But in total i've spent about £500 on it, although I needs another 512 of ddr 4000. I absolutely refuse to buy a decent graphics card.

Dump the IDE and go SATA. Get a P4 C instead of E, unless you wait for the E to be released on the new socket. If you do go C, I can say you'd want faster memory to OC with, as those things love to overclock.

Everything else looks nice.

Dump the 250GB SATAs and do a 4 74GB Raptor RAID 0+1 setup.

Everything else is cool.

the quad raptors are waaaaaay out of my price range. I may consider an extreme high speed drive as my windows drive and the 250gb SATA's for extra storage or some crap. Doesn't matter since I won't get the money I need till spring 2005. Still though, I need to upgrade the one I have now but there's not much room for improvement here. I may just get a new mobo b/c this one has wwaaayyy too many issues with non-functional features and components (the USB controller is fried and I think my sound card is dying too)

I've got $1,700(Canadian). to spend on my next computer, which I hopefully will buy before or around Christmas.

I'd build a computer, but that's the last thing I'm going to do. Plus, I've decided to switch from desktop to laptop. Maybe even Windows to Mac OSX..?:D

Dont go mac. UNless you dont want to play games, ofcourse.. Also, dont go laptop. Much more expensive, and they overheat alot easier than desktops.

Stay true to the PC! :)

Yo homiezz u kno is all bout da nvidia up in dis joint!! All u ati h0miez gonna get jumped yo.. C0z yo sorry litto atis cant handle my SuPaDuPaFly Fx5950 DAwGS! (It took me 30 minutes to type that  )

RePrEzEnT !

I was running the same thing but at 1280x1024 when I had my mom's LCD hooked up. This monitor can only do 1024x768, though.:irked:

Agreed...unless you REALLY need the portability dont get a laptop. You'll take a big hit in price, performance, relaiblity, modular design (you can replace stuff) ... yeah. Take it from me, my laptop performs on par with desktops costing 1/3 as much.

And I dont game either. I am talking about things like memory speed, disk access times, etc.

Yup.

Like I say, desktop first, laptop second.

I want a laptop, but I want a snazzy desktop first. All I expect in a laptop is web browsing and word processing. If I wanted anything else it's going to cost an arm and a leg, and my first born.
