You could save a few bucks and be about the same performance like this.

There are like two games out there that take advantage of 256MB over 128MB in a video card. Buying the 128MB version would save you some money.

You could get a 2500+ Barton and OC it to 3200+ by raising the FSB to 200 instead of 166. If you look around you'll find that it always does that without even raising the voltage, or breaking a sweat for that matter.

That's about it. As far as performance I would change the following.

Dump the HD and get a 36GB Raptor. It is more expensive, and smaller, but if you ever run out of space you could just add a cheap IDE HD.

Get different RAM. If you look you can see it's rated for a CAS latency of 3. Look for one thats about 2.5, that way you should be able to crank it down to two. I would also suggest getting maybe PC3500 if it isn't too much more expensive as you'll also be able to achieve faster timings like that.

The case is kind of cool. My brother almost got it. Something you'll want to remember is the PSU that comes with it. PSUs being one of those things you want to have quality, you might want to look around for maybe the same case without a PSU and buying a Antec, for example, seperately.

Everything else looks cool!

I'm getting one. It's already on order, it just needs to come in so I can install it. I'll show you it when I'm finished, you can be sure of that.:D

More screenies!

I'm falling in love with my video card...:dopey:

This game sucks, but I took screen shots anyways.

Anyone actually buy this game? I mean, it's fun for the first five minutes but it seems like it'd get repetitive.

Anyways. The mods are probably getting sick of me posting all these screenshots...Maybe I should stop.

Very nice, the graphics look very smooth.
I must ask though, at those resolutions and with the antialiasing, what kind of framerate do you get? It looks like you have a samsung syncmaster like mine, and if that's the case, these things run at around 60hz, which is bad for framerate.

My monitor gets 1280x1024 resolution, but it's a 19" LCD.

I'll admit the quality of these monitors are good, but they need to work on making them faster, with better res. At $640 or so per screen they should be a lot better.

BTW, good choice on all your equipment. I have a xp 2600, I use the pc2700 ram which works well, I also use a fx 5200, which is a good sized step down from the 9600 imho.

More screenshots, they are good stuff. I'm tempted to take some screenshots with mine, with my 8x antialiasing on, and the anisotropic cranked to 8x also.

The Syncmaster 174v is my mom's. She was letting me use it for a few days to...break in the video card. As you can see, all of my screenies are in 1024x768, because my monitor can only do that:irked:. At 1280x1024 that monitor can do 72MHz refresh rate, so it isn't too bad. I wouldn't mind having one of my own. The picture quality on those monitors is simply amazing. So clear and bright.

I wish I could tell you the framerates I get while playing the games but I don't know if there are counters in the game.

Out of curiosity, what do you get in 3dmarks 01/03? I only get a little over 10k in 01 even though this card gets over 13k in the benchmark systems. Unfortunatly my CPU is a huge bottleneck...I'm going to be getting a 2500+ Barton and some new RAM, that is actually my next purchase. In 03 I get a little over 3600, again I suspect my small CPU to be bottlenecking me.

I can only do 6x aa for some odd reason, or 6x aa T3? I can do 16x AF, however. My game play settings thus far, on this monitor, have been 1024x768, 6x AA, 16x AF, all quality settings in video card controll set to maximum and all in game settings set to maximum. When I played on the LCD I did all the same, except I lowered the AA to 4x sometimes, but the resolution was 1280x1024.

What's a pretty game I can take screen shots of?

I don't know my benchmarks, i'm sure they are pretty low, out of the 160gb's I have, i've used up probably 104gigs, which can really slow a computer down. That, and I have bad luck when it comes to smoothly running a computer, I've never had one without a problem, I doubt anyone has, but i'm especially cursed.

I say that Battlefield 1942 with all the image settings, AA, and all that good stuff cranked, would look really, really nice on your setup. If you don't have it, you could probably get a demo from http://www.fileplanet.com.

Other games, i'm not sure, I don't play a great variety of games on here, just BF1942, GTA: vice city, america's army, half-life and all the mods, and gunbound.

I'll see what I can do about the benchmarks, i'll probably clear an extra HD, put just what I need on it, and have 3 HD's. It shouldn't be a problem, RAID boards are meant for that stuff.:D

I'll try that.

So, you play AA?I always sucked at that game, died in like thirty seconds. It's pretty darn nice for being free, though. I might install it to see how it runs too.

Yeah, AA is really nice, I like the realism in it, but it's not so easy to fight.
Here's some 800x600 8x antialiasing and whatnot screenshots I just took.
This is BF1942, it's the mod called "Desert Combat" it's really nice, desert storm warfare.

Heh, what kind of FPS are you getting there? Playable?

There, it was playable yeah. I'd say it was roughly 20fps or so, lol. When I have it set to normal quality and everything, I get 60fps, that's only because of the 60hz this monitor has, really ticks me off.

It wouldn't let me into 1024x768.

Oh well. So I did it at 800x600 6x aa, 16x af, all in game settings on high and all video card settings on max quality,

I wish it wouldn't mess up and let me into 1024x768, darn it!

Is there a way to see the FPS you're getting? A guess would be 60?

take screenies of Splinter Cell - Pandora Tomorrow. The lighting and shadows in that game make for some crazy cool screenshots.

nice 👍

Is it possible to get a window for any case and any size case? I'm not making any final decisions for at least a year or so till I have the money but it may be handy if I choose to replace my current beige box for something that has enough space for more than just one case fan

Yup.

Different sizes. That one was $15 and it came with the pre cut plexi, the black stuff, a few other things. A little cutting, squishing and there you go.

You can get the pre ready ones in different sizes, I just chose that one because I liked it.

My 9800 pro ownz j00r video card hard :P

I have to actually switch on AA for DC :embarrassed:

You should run the demo of Far Cry Burnout, that will test out your video card excellently. ;)
